30 minute shower

Movingstressangst · 25/03/2024 08:21

Is this a reasonable shower length? One working bathroom, but could husband says I could knock on door if toilet is needed.

YANBU - this is too long

Used to be the whole point of a shower that it was quicker and less wasteful of water than a bath. Now we have gone full circle and people are spending as much time under the shower as they would have done in the bath. This nullifying the environmental and time saving benefits.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 25/03/2024 12:15

Everyday? Wow.

Preparing my hair for the wash (mostly detangling, now much less of an issue due to a different hair style), washing, conditioner, hair mask, body scrub etc. used take about 45 minutes.

An additional 30 minutes for a partial blow dry and a little styling (not done in the bathroom due to humidity).

But that is definitely not an everyday occurence! And I am pretty sure that your DH doesn´t need that kind of hair routine. So yes, he is being extremely unreasonable. And he should find a different venue for his "alone time". Hmm

GingerIsBest · 25/03/2024 12:20

This would infuriate me. Such a waste of water, such a waste of time, especially with just one bathroom. And quite frankly, who needs 30 minutes of "thinking" time in the shower every day? Go think somewhere else.

I occasionally take a very long shower - that's 15 minutes. I accept however, that I am a particularly quick at showering. Always have been so I spend 10 minutes in the bathroom in total to brush my teeth, then shower (including quick hair wash), then get out and apply face creams, deodorant etc. So I'm not expecting everyone to be as quick as me. But 30 minutes in the water flow? Outrageous.

Margaritavillee · 25/03/2024 12:21

Ridiculous. I only take that long if I’m doing a shaving/exfoliating routine. Typically my showers are 10 minutes max. My partner rarely takes more than 5 minutes

CaterhamReconstituted · 25/03/2024 12:22

It’s a bit long to be fair. But I don’t like policing people’s time in toilets and bathrooms. Men often “disappear” when in the loo - often they take a book in etc.

mymumwouldntapprove · 25/03/2024 12:26

All these people with their 3 minute showers must have other times of the day in which to relax.
my shower time is pretty much the only part of my day when I’m not in demand by husband, my team at work, kids going “mum! Mum! Mum!” Endlessly.
yes I have very long hair and it takes a while to wash and condition, but actually I just like to relax in there.
We do have two working toilets though.

Jk987 · 25/03/2024 12:27

Get in the shower with him - kill 2 birds with one stone!

The competitive misery on MN is actually outstanding. It gets better with each thread I read. Also, not sure how you're properly cleaning and rinsing your hair and body in less than 15mins.

I take around 20 mins on Mon shave days, if I'm dry and wet scrubbing/exfoliating, shaving or doing a face/hair mask. 30 mins is easy to do. I also have a 10 min wash off the day shower before bed. Husband is 15 mins in the morning and 10 before bed.

We're not on ridiculous money either, and yes we are metered.

Op I would suggest he has to wake up earlier than the rest of family to fit the time in so it works for everyone. I wake up first shower and then wake everyone else up, unless the baby beats me to it.

We currently have one working bathroom as the other is being redone. We don't ever have time clashes. 3 of using the bathroom in the morning.

OneTC · 25/03/2024 12:44

This is what baths are for.

RampantIvy · 25/03/2024 12:46

We have a power shower. I can easily wash and rinse myself and my hair in 15 minutes.

When I get my hair dyed and then washed, and rinsed at the hairdresser it still takes significantly less than 15 minutes. What exactly are you doing to your hair that it takes so long to clean and rinse it? Even DD who has long, thick, curly hair, can do a really good wash and condition in about 15 minutes.

RaininSummer · 25/03/2024 12:51

I don't see showers as relaxing to be honest. They are just something to get clean so pretty much a daily chore which stops me doing other stuff for half an hour messing about getting and doing hair etc. 10 mins is plenty of time to soap up and scrub down.

Patrickiscrazy · 25/03/2024 12:52

What's happened lately, policing people's time spent in the bathroom?

CactusMactus · 25/03/2024 12:55

I love a long shower! But once a week and not in the mornings....

RampantIvy · 25/03/2024 12:58

For people who find baths boring why don't you musmnet read while in the bath?

Exactly 15 mins may be slight more for my hair. 2 shampoos, towel dry and conditioner or treatment/olaplex. Comb through. Then face and body. Double cleanse face and body. Using a loofah or body brush (shock horror!!!) Then that needs rinsing, and so I do, head to toe. Approx 20 mins

If I body exfoliate, that takes a bit longer. Scrub goes on or use body brush leave product on for 5 mins. Same with shaving takes around 5 -10 mins if doing more than just legs and pits.

Sometimes, I will brush my teeth as well in the shower depending on if I have time to kill waiting for a product to work it's magic.

And, sometimes I just zone out. Compling shopping and to do lists.

It's my time to have a little bit of self care daily. Without it, I feel like shit and sluggish.

A pits and bits wash before bed with a quick once over all over is about 10 mins.

I think a lot of ppl underestimate how long they actually spend in the bathroom.

Oh and another few minutes doing toners and face serums afterwards.

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 25/03/2024 08:23

I wash my hair every morning in the shower.. Takes me 5 mins max to do this and shower.. even if it's an underarm shaving day.

Well that’s just great -I’m guessing your hair is short!
My hair is long and thick and in the interests of saving water I turn the shower off when lathering and conditioning but it’s still about 10mins. It would be 20/25mins if I left it running.

rustlerwaiter · 25/03/2024 13:01

I can spend a while in the shower or the bath. It's warm, it's relaxing, it's nice to just have a bit of time doing and thinking absolutely nothing. A wank would spoil it tbh.

RampantIvy · 25/03/2024 13:01

I do this when shaving my legs, otherwise the water washes the soap off.

mondaytosunday · 25/03/2024 13:03

Way too long! 15 is probably the most, and that would include shampoo, conditioner, body scrub and shaving.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 25/03/2024 13:04

That's ridiculous and also very environmentally unfriendly.

ohdamnitjanet · 25/03/2024 13:04

AhBiscuits · 25/03/2024 08:25

He needs to find a more convenient time for his wank.

😆

MadamVastra · 25/03/2024 09:52

has anyone noticed when a thread is popular there ends up being more almost identical ones?

I know, even the same 30mins.

DrJoanAllenby · 25/03/2024 13:09

If he's obese I can see it might take ages to reach and wash his bits in order to be through but thirty minutes is quite steep!

Having a long soak in a bath is different as it's not really about washing/cleaning but relaxing.

Is he obese? Can he use washing aids to help reach parts he needs to reach? Or a shower seat?

VioletCold · 25/03/2024 12:00

Haha I suspected someone would pull me up over teeth brushing.

I just prefer brushing them in the shower with warm water to rinse. The mint burns my mouth if I rinse with cold water. I'll use hot water if I'm at the tap, but I prefer to get all my ablutions done in the shower.

You aren't supposed to rinse the toothpaste out of your mouth.
