Is this a reasonable shower length? One working bathroom, but could husband says I could knock on door if toilet is needed.

YANBU - this is too long

Seems about an average time to me, I usually spend that amount of time in the shower

What are you doing that takes so long?

Cafelattes · 25/03/2024 10:05

AhBiscuits · 25/03/2024 09:53

So what are you doing? Just standing there?

Yes, I am! I guess I enjoy the sensation and warmth, I didn't think that was weird!

Singleandproud · 25/03/2024 10:08

What an epic waste of water if he's under there for 25 minutes he might as well have a bath.

We have 4 minute showers in our house and have a water timer for it. That's long (bra strap length) hair washed and conditioned for 3 minutes, body washed and under arms and legs shave top up. If we want longer than that for faffing or if DD has had a particularly mucky rugby session we turn the water off and then back on to rinse.

To take up 30 mins of bathroom time in a busy household is selfish unless he gets up earlier.

afrikat · 25/03/2024 10:08

I just can't fathom this at all and it's a massive waste of water and money. Is he just standing there under the water for 25 minutes after he's washed etc?

VioletCold · 25/03/2024 10:09

Things I do in the shower:

Wash face twice
Wash hair once or twice
Condition hair
Shave legs
Shave armpits
Shave bikini area
Wash body
Brush teeth
Enjoy sensation of hot water

There's no possible way I can do that in 90 seconds.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 25/03/2024 09:58

1.5 minutes for me, hate shower!
DH probs around 15-20 minutes, teenager 30 minutes.

You wash your entire body in 1.5 minutes??

LIZS · 25/03/2024 10:13

Unless he works in a job which is messy like plastering it is excessive.

Every shower?

PTSDBarbiegirl · 25/03/2024 10:16

@uhOhOP correct! I have waist length hair so don't wash hair daily. Jump in, quick scrub all over and out. Can't stand the feel of the water so if I'm not having a bath it's a very efficient shower.

He doesn't have a messy job. He's "thinking" apparently. Which is not a euphemism 😏 - the sound proofing for the bathroom is terrible, so I'd know if he was up to anything else, and he does that at other times.

For those saying it's not possible to shower in 90 seconds, it really is. It's normal in the navy water on get wet, water off, soap up, water on rinse it all off.

If we didn't have infinite volumes of water coming out the shower head and you physically had to carry it there or were limited in some other way people would find a way to have a faster shower sharpish.

BeachBeerBbq · 25/03/2024 10:21

Oooh I like ponder about life 20 min showers.HHowever, that's twice a week.

Is he just hiding in there to get peace fromfamily or is stressed with work and doesn't want to dump it in you?

Tessisme · 25/03/2024 10:23

Spare a thought for us - DS2 has OCD and we're lucky if he's out of the shower within an hour😬 I tend to be in and out as quickly as possible to redress the balance a bit!

FoxyLoxyLoo · 25/03/2024 10:23

These how long in the shower threads make me laugh. You either get the people who jump in and out in less than 5 minutes (I always have an image of a Sonic the Hedgehog zooming in and out of the shower reading those replies) or the ones who actually enjoy a long hot shower. The faux “what do you do for that long” etc as if no-one could possibly love standing with hot water running over them are hilarious. I’m in the 30 minute shower camp but we do have a rainfall shower and I have a radio on so I like a good sing song while I’m in there.

45 mins in bathroom, 30 mins in shower

Ridiculous- no one needs that long. What's he doing in there?

Chypre · 25/03/2024 10:31

Nah. I am "high maintenance" but I only do 30 min shower once a week - to exfoliate, shave legs/pits/bits, deep condition my hair and generally relax. Everyday showers are 10 min tops. Unless your husband is sporting smooth legs/chest and long shiny hair, 30 min is unnecessary.

You might suggest to him that thinking is perfectly possible elsewhere - sitting on a chair, for example. Cost-free, kind to the environment and leaves the bathroom considerately free for others, too!

DonnaBanana · 25/03/2024 10:38

Standing up for thirty minutes sounds exhausting I think he should take a bath if he wants to enjoy the warmth that long

RaininSummer · 25/03/2024 10:41

30 mins seems ages to me. I am in and out in ten max even washing my long hair.

Ginmonkeyagain · 25/03/2024 10:45

For people that enjoy the sensation of wallowing in warm water - that is why baths exisit.

I tend to spend about 10 mins on my daily shoewr (wash body, hair, face and quick run around with the razor) but once every couple of weeks or so I like a good wallow in a hot bath for about 30 - 40 mins (I do ensure other bathroom users are out of the house/do not need to use the bathroom first).

Ah see I could easily stand in the shower for 30 minutes. I just don't because of the expense. Lying in a gradually cooling bath is my idea of hell. Boring and uncomfortable. I love standing in the shower. I have all my best thoughts while standing up🤣🤣

pimplebum · 25/03/2024 10:48

30 mins in the shower !!! What the fuck if s he doing !!

in that time I could

Wash my body
Wash condition and dye my hair
Mani pedi
Wash all the dishes
Hand wash all the dirty clothes

That would drive me mental not to mention the bills !

ohtowinthelottery · 25/03/2024 10:49

When adult DS was spending 20 mins in the shower, I threatened to turn it off at the trip switch if he didn't reduce the time as it uses so much electricity. Even he is max 10 mins now.
I've never timed myself, but if I'm not washing my hair I'd say 5 mins max. If I'm doing my hair then I'll wash hair, put conditioner in, turn water off and shave legs, pits and bikini line, then turn water back on to rinse hair and body then a quick body wash and out. Max 10 mins but water not running all that time.
Can't see the point on wasting resources - and we could afford to pay the bills but I'd rather spend the money on other things!
Can't see any reason to be in a shower for 30 mins. Can't he have a bath if he wants 'thinking time'.

I only get a long shower if I need to wash my hair - long and dry so need a couple of treatments and if I haven't had time to do a pre-wash hair mask. When I don't wash my hair about 5 minutes
