30 minute shower

Movingstressangst · 25/03/2024 08:21

Is this a reasonable shower length? One working bathroom, but could husband says I could knock on door if toilet is needed.

YANBU - this is too long

Every shower?

No, I don't do my hair or shave every shower. But even without those things, I'd struggle to do the rest in a few minutes.

welshweasel · 25/03/2024 10:53
  1. Massive waste of water and energy
  2. Hugely inconsiderate of other family members

If I'm not washing hair I can be in and out in a minute.

If I'm washing hair plus shaving legs etc then 5 mins max.

Deerdrinkingtea · 25/03/2024 10:54

He clearly doesn't give a hoot about the planet does he? Heating on at 23 degrees whilst he waltzes around in his underpants? Drives a great big gas guzzling car?

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 25/03/2024 10:54

Baths are not the same as a good, long, hot shower 🤣

Baths rapidly start cooling, go murky, aren't constantly flowing water...

But then I wouldn't have a 30 minute shower everyday (though I can see how your thoughts can wander in there)

ViciousCurrentBun · 25/03/2024 10:54

All a bit American Beauty.

It’s just too expensive quite frankly.

Allfur · 25/03/2024 10:56

So if its rubbish sound proofing, maybe he runs the shower whilst he's on the loo

Chipsweep · 25/03/2024 10:58

That’s ridiculous especially for someone who presumably isn’t shaving anything and doesn’t have long hair. I spend 10 mins max if I am shaving legs and don’t even have the water running all that time. Plus another 10 mins for drying, moisturising, getting dressed. It’s not about the expense for me it’s about the environment, we have a gas boiler heating the water.

Deathbyfluffy · 25/03/2024 11:00

GameOfJones · 25/03/2024 09:46

Agreed. It's what he's doing in there.

I have long hair and even when I need to shave my legs and armpits plus wash and condition my hair I'm in and out of the bathroom within 15 minutes.

Bullshit. I’m a man and I like the odd long shower - and that’s definitely not what I’m doing in there!

fishonabicycle · 25/03/2024 11:02

That must use about 100 gallons of water (this is a guess!). So half hour shower people just stand there with water pouring on them? Seems ridiculously indulgent and wasteful.

TheDefiant · 25/03/2024 11:02

I shower daily and take 7 mins. I think that's too long but can't seem to cut it down.

So 30 minutes is hugely excessive and a waste of water and energy.

Put a lock on your bedroom door so he can wank in private there!!!

FoxyLoxyLoo · 25/03/2024 11:10

I have a chair in my shower room, it’s all a bit Flashdance sometimes 😂. It makes me laugh how people get so annoyed over others showering habits.

MartinaMorningstar · 25/03/2024 11:23

I voted YABU for all the reasons mentioned on yesterdays thread.

I wash my hair every morning in the shower.. Takes me 5 mins max to do this and shower.. even if it's an underarm shaving day.

Same, but I can also season and roast a chicken for a family of 5 as well in that time, in addition. A slight rush but doable even if its underarm day.

uhOhOP · 25/03/2024 11:26

Movingstressangst · 25/03/2024 10:17

He doesn't have a messy job. He's "thinking" apparently. Which is not a euphemism 😏 - the sound proofing for the bathroom is terrible, so I'd know if he was up to anything else, and he does that at other times.

I also like to think when I'm in the shower. And I really enjoy the feeling of the hot water raining down on me – on my face, over my head, on my back. I like standing there and just feeling the water on my body.

Just timed myself,no hair wash, washed face with cleanser, soaped and rinsed whole body, washed bits, in and out in under 3 mins. No shaving, at 62 body hair does not grow at rate it used to. In and out of shower in under 3 minutes.

Pearlyclouds · 25/03/2024 11:32

Very surprised by this... I personally find timing people in the bathroom to be incredibly invasive and odd.
we only have one bathroom between the 5 of us and i dont set time limits! All I make sure of is that if someone else needs the bathroom for something urgent or important like they actually need the loo or need to get ready for work, they are given priority. And if anyone knocks on the door needing the loo the person in the bathroom is to come out (unless they are using the loo obviously). We manage fine this way and dont have to be creepy about policing how long someone takes doing anything.
I might be biased as I love having hour long baths... however I leave the door unlocked so my kids can come in if needed (my kids are primary aged)
Id be annoyed if my dh took a long shower at an annoying time like when he knows I need to get ready for work, or when its the kids bedtimes etc... but id never be annoyed at him simply for having a long shower. Some people like long showers. Its his house too.

VioletLemon · 25/03/2024 11:35

Enlightening @LIZS I'd never wash my face in the shower, maybe quick pat with face cloth to get water out eyes but that's a separate job at the sink with moisturiser etc. Brushing teeth in the shower, really? Didn't know that was a 'thing' so spitting into where you are standing?

Mnetcurious · 25/03/2024 11:37

Movingstressangst · 25/03/2024 08:24

45 mins in bathroom, 30 mins in shower

This is an outrageous waste of water and energy.

LMMuffet · 25/03/2024 11:40

I think that is a bit too long for a shower every day.

That said, judging by some of the responses on here and the other recent thread on shower timings, I think the “I can wash, epilate and exfoliate my whole body, and wash and deep condition my floor length hair in a 30 second shower” might be the new MN “I can make 10 meals for a family of 6 with only one small chicken.”

bluecomputerscreen · 25/03/2024 11:43

time in bathroom or time under the shower?

under the shower - totally unteasonable. such a waste of water.

in bathroom - maybe, but unreasonable to block the bathroom during crucial times (morning rush)

Not me fortunately!

PTSDBarbiegirl · 25/03/2024 11:54

Sorry, @LIZS, see you had referenced that one from
@VioletCold! I know there's a trend in film and TV to show people brushing teeth but do they really do it in the shower....

Haha I suspected someone would pull me up over teeth brushing.

I just prefer brushing them in the shower with warm water to rinse. The mint burns my mouth if I rinse with cold water. I'll use hot water if I'm at the tap, but I prefer to get all my ablutions done in the shower.

Shan5474 · 25/03/2024 12:12

I take long showers, especially in winter when the warm water feels great and I don’t want to get out and be cold. But usually it’s hair washing, scrubbing, shaving, conditioning and things which genuinely take a while. I think it’s rare and strange for a man to take long showers unless he’s pooping or wanking.

Are you annoyed because of water waste, you wanting to get in there, or because you think he might be doing something else?
