Sick of wasting my life because of the rain

1000 replies

GoodnightAdeline · 24/03/2024 19:18

I don’t care how many people say ‘it was always like this..’ yes it rained a lot when I was a kid but now it does nothing BUT rain.

I swear to God out of the last 30 days we have had 1 or maybe 2 where it wasn’t fucking raining. And they’re always midweek.

I feel like all we do is sit inside going stir crazy waiting for the rain to stop. I have 2 small children and while they’re desperate to go to the park/beach, even they’re not keen in a torrential downpour with everything covered in mud.

I’m sick of all my plans being cancelled, staring out of the window at depressing grey skies and trying to figure out how to pass the weekend without spending a ton of cash on expensive (and brief) indoor activities.

It’s driving me fucking crazy and not an exaggeration to say it’s sending me into some kind of low level depression. 🍷

Just get dirty and muddy and come home and put a wash on and the kids in a bath. All good fun. It sounds like you have an anxiety about some part of this. And I live in the west coast of Scotland which has rain constantly.

Chipsahoy · 24/03/2024 21:25

Picnics in March? End of April maybe but March?

Theoldwoman · 24/03/2024 21:25

ThinWomansBrain · 24/03/2024 19:44

so go live somewhere where it's blazing hot, there are water shortages and forest fires
problem solved

Believe me, this is definitely not fun.

We are so desperate for rain.

Can’t hold an umbrella and push the pram.

Jesus, help yourself woman!! Google “pram umbrella holder” or just wear a hood!!

laclochette · 24/03/2024 21:26

Two things here.

  1. it is much wetter now in this country than it used to be. As someone said up thread, 9% more rain than in 1990. So the weather is objectively wetter, nobody can argue against that in good faith

  2. for some people, rainy weather makes them miserable. That's subjective, and personal. It's no point saying "oh I don't mind it" when other people obviously do! (Myself included)

redxlondon · 24/03/2024 21:23

THIS! (Welsh person here…cracking the fuck on no matter the weather, except the heat haha)

Obviously a much harder and more salt of the earth person than sissies like me!

What plans are you cancelling? Maybe make rain proof plans during the winter?

It's not winter tho!!

Caterguin · 24/03/2024 21:27

I think people are being a bit harsh. Yes, we all know how to go out in the rain. I've done my time with the 4 of us decked out like we're handling biohazards; smallest one in their own private sweat pit in the maclaren. For every picture of us eating ice cream, there's a corresponding one of us standing, shivering up a sodding mountain or attraction.

But it's shit, let's not pretend otherwise.

As is waking up day after day to grey skies. Someone on the radio last week was talking about how this much rain is bad for crops. Roots get washed away, then summer scorches it all.

NorthCliffs · 24/03/2024 21:27

Are you in Cornwall, OP? It's been raining since last July, I think. The garden is an absolute bog.

Spudthespanner · 24/03/2024 21:23

I am actually Scottish.

And it's utter pish. I'm sick of this endless rain.

Pish? Yup and you still crack the fuck on. To work,to school,to the shop.
Stop the bellyaching, it’s rain. Deal with it. It’s not like it’s a surprise or anything
what a lot of indulgent moaning. I’m not saying everyone skip heartily and embrace the weather but Christ don’t act like it’s a unbearable state borne by the broken who cannot picnic

CuttingMeOpenthenHealingMeFine · 24/03/2024 21:28

I had a huge moan to DH about this yesterday. I’m sick of fucking boots and jackets and jumpers. I went for a walk yesterday when waiting for DD who was at an activity, there is a lovely park just next door and the sun was out so I thought why not get a coffee and have a walk. By the time I was half way round it was pissing it down and so windy that it was blowing full on in my face, the wind was so loud I couldn’t hear my podcast on my earbuds and my hood could hardly stay up. Then I get home and have to put the lights on at bloody 1pm because it was so dark due to the rain. Thankfully it did clear up later in the day and today has been much nicer.

Do you think I don’t take my kids to school when it rains 😆

Not saying I LOVE it, but yeah just get over it or move country. Two options, or…just be miserable I guess…

what a lot of indulgent moaning

Isn't that what MN's for?!
If we all stopped doing that there'd be hardly any threads left 😂

Zone2NorthLondon · 24/03/2024 21:31

I hope you can muster the fortitude and crack on,lamenting that you cannot picnic
of course you take the kids to school, shop,go work. That’s what cracking the fuck on look like

I’m with you. Sick of the rain and grey skies. It’s just wet all the time, so fucking boring. I don’t care what anyone says, it’s not fun going for a walk in the rain and even less fun when you have a toddler or have to get the pram out with the rain cover on. Everything is more work and I’m fed up with being damp and cold. We didn’t even get autumn it went from summer to rain. I’ve been feeling low too. Hopefully we get some consistent sun soon, it was lovely today and I made the most of it

Switcher · 24/03/2024 21:34

We had this conversation recently. This winter has been quite frustrating with the amount of rain.bits definitely more in the southeast than I'm used to. Here's hoping for a settled summer.

Just emigrate then…..apparently it’s that easy according to some mumsnetters.

Don’t you have something to be cracking on with rather than just repeatedly posting the same thing on this thread?

Spudthespanner · 24/03/2024 21:35

I do get on with it. That's life. But I will continue complaining. As does everyone I know in real life. It's kind of a talking point given the fact that this year is the wettest yet. Only on Mumsnet do people pretend this constant rain isn't something to complain about.

March last year and the year before was filled with glorious sunny days. I have photos of lots of picnics and the kids in shorts and sun hats.

So yeh, it is fairly surprising this year.

And. It. Is. Shite.

Wexone · 24/03/2024 21:36

oh you sound like my mother. you can't control the weather so don't let it control you. as someone said no such thing as bad weather only bad clothing. i live by the beach and getbout lost days just wrap up proper it doesn't control how my day to day is. yes it's a bit miserable sometimes but you can't let it get to you. my birthday is around this time and my mother says it' could be snowing raining or sun splitting the skies. its march we can get all weather's. nicer weather comes around easter and after
