Nobody's talking about the massacre in Moscow then?

Over 40 dead and at least 100 injured? Obviously there's a lot going on tonight, but the lack of chat about this is surprising?

If there's another big thread and I've missed it, I hold my hands up. I can't find it.

At least 40 killed as gunmen open fire at concert venue in Moscow

Footage taken inside the auditorium shows up to four gunmen firing automatic weapons as people crouch and hide behind seats.

Can you try being clearer? What is the ‘bigger’ problem?

I can’t see the point of your thread? I’m not sure if you’re being deliberately obtuse or if you simply don’t have any points to debate?

I didn't start a thread.....😔 Sigh.

The point of your post then….???

It seems to be about property prices being a smaller issue than what exactly?

You can’t move to Prague because?

Why did you post?

You are like a hornet.
No offence.

So according to Guardian live feed Putin is desperately trying to implicate Ukraine as being in collusion with the IS perpetrators.

Oh boy.

This is pretty grim.

Probably bollocks. Who couldn't see that coming? I feel so sorry for Russian citizens that want nothing to do with this.

Agreed. But our boy Vlad will use any slimy bit of leverage on his citizens to try and stoke national outrage.

Urgh.

Stop the world I wanna get off.

Yes, both reasons, however, the property prices being a small problem.

It sounds like you are saying you don’t want to live with Ukrainians. Is there a particular reason for that?

MistressoftheDarkSide · 23/03/2024 20:26

There's some grim stuff coming out on the Guardian live feed .....

I feel like I should be informed but I'm nervous.

How bad is it? Best left for the long get of morning?

LiterallyOnFire · 23/03/2024 20:51

LIGHT of the morning.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 23/03/2024 20:56

It's what is allegedly happening to the alleged terrorists who've been picked up.

I mean I get the desire for revenge and retribution but as it's difficult to know what is truth etc it's showing the trend towards depravity in conflict.

Pretty grim.

LiterallyOnFire · 23/03/2024 21:00

Ah okay. Thanks for the heads up. I'll have a look tomorrow. Russia really is very different to Europe.

1dayatatime · 23/03/2024 21:20

@Vod

Great so your evidence that Russia might have deliberately staged a false flag terrorist attack in Moscow last night is links referring to the a false flag operation to justify the invasion of Finland in 1939 and the invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968.

As for "the little green men" in Crimea these were Russian special operations soldiers sent in to back up pro Russian paramilitaries. They had their insignia removed so Moscow could have plausible deniability. But this is not a false flag operation- at no point did they attack Russians or Russian interests.

As for your statement :

"It's also a very mainstream view that the Russian regime has allowed and exploited Chechnyan terror attacks, particularly in 1999"

It might be a mainstream view amongst tin foil hat wearing conspiracy nut jobs but the reality is that it remains very much disputed.

Firstly because if the rational was justification for the invasion of Chechnya then one or two bombings would have sufficed, secondly to organise a FSB operation to create a sustained false flag bombings would have been impossible to keep secret and thirdly despite what you think of the Russian military they genuinely do not and would object to the killing of their own citizens.

1dayatatime · 23/03/2024 21:35

Whilst it is entirely plausible that the terrorists were heading for the Ukrainian border to get away this absolutely doesn't mean that Ukraine had anything to do with it.

Mum1976Mum · 23/03/2024 21:39

Can say I really care or take any notice of what goes on in Russia now. Almost everything is Putin’s doing. So is this probably. If he doesn’t care about his own citizens then why should we?

1dayatatime · 23/03/2024 21:56

@Mum1976Mum

Maybe because 130 innocent civilians including women and children have been killed by terrorists?

That said I could understand your view about not being interested on the basis that this is something happening thousands of miles away and has nothing to do with the UK rather than not being interested because of your dislike for Putin.

The equivalent would be not caring about Palestinian civilian deaths because of a dislike for Hamas rather than not caring about innocent Palestinian civilian deaths including women and children because it's something happening thousands of miles away and which has nothing to do with the UK.

I've noticed that this incident hasn't cropped up on my Facebook feed at all. I shared the Guardian link but had zero interaction which is unusual as I have a large friend list due to my previous business. My friends are quite politically minded and usually keen to comment.

Come to think of it I'm not getting much at all coming through on any contentious issues such as Gaza, Ukraine or the farmers protests.

Wonder if the algorithms are avoiding it all?

Anonymous2025 · 23/03/2024 23:40

I really feel for the people affected . Not only many Russian live under Putin dictatorship and can’t do much about it , but now this .

Oh I'm interested in social media issues like this.

May I ask, do you mean you were getting material on Gaza and Ukraine, and it has now dipped?

Or were you not getting much of such material even before this attack?

Given some of your contributions to the Ukraine invasion threads over the past couple of years, your response is as unsurprising as it is unimpressive. Unsupported assertions from a Putin apologist aren't worthy of anything other than my laughter.

I think the Gaza stuff has died down in the last few weeks. But almost anything to do with big world issues I have to seek out - on a minor and entirely personal note I follow the Nuclear Test Veteran campaign cos my Dad is an affected Nuclear Vet. I'm on a couple of pages to do with it.

If I share things from there, hardly any of my friends see them (I have over 2000 friends - not bragging, it's just a fact) but if I post a photo of my cat everyone's all over it like a rash.

I mean I know cats trump "boring" big issues and alot of people just use Facebook for "fun" but I have definitely noticed that the algorithms are working in mysterious ways......

PerkingFaintly · 24/03/2024 10:11

Thank you, Mistress, that's interesting to hear.

Though I'm not sure how to interpret it!

If there had been a sharp plummet with this attack, that would have suggested to me (only suggested! I don't know) that an actor promoting the other issues had suddenly stopped doing so (eg Russian bot-farms suddenly being retasked) and also didn't want coverage of this attack.

But if it dropped off a few weeks ago, that makes the field much broader. Could be Facebook's own doing, as you say.
