Nobody's talking about the massacre in Moscow then?

Over 40 dead and at least 100 injured? Obviously there's a lot going on tonight, but the lack of chat about this is surprising?

If there's another big thread and I've missed it, I hold my hands up. I can't find it.

At least 40 killed as gunmen open fire at concert venue in Moscow

Footage taken inside the auditorium shows up to four gunmen firing automatic weapons as people crouch and hide behind seats.

It’s tragic for the families affected and I think it’s getting covered quite a bit. Certainly more than when 40+ people are killed in terrorist bombings in counties in Asia, Middle East, or Africa. “But Russians are more like us.” No, they’re not.

I agree.
I don't consider Russia being part of Europe or having anything in common with us so I understand that this won't be headline news.

Of course it is a tragedy that innocent people were killed.

GnomeDePlume · 23/03/2024 00:33

False flag or not, it gives Putin a justification for clamping down on any dissenting voices.

1dayatatime · 23/03/2024 00:56

@alesia
@Skippythebutterfly

"I suspect that you have absolutely no credible evidence for this statement."

"Plenty of evidence"

It's these kind of silver foil nut job conspiracy theorists making shit up that really pisses me off.

Look there is no credible evidence that the 1999 Russian apartment bombings were false flag inside jobs done by the FSB.

Yes there are claims and theories that they were organised by the FSB but never proven partly because in 1999 Russia was still operating in a closed doors communist attitude and those that made the claims most notably Litvinenko ended up dead.

Just out of curiosity, why would ISIS target Russia? They're somewhat unpopular with 'the west'. What do they get out of this?

TooBigForMyBoots · 23/03/2024 01:55

I consider your why is no one talking about this... "scolding" when you could have started a thread to talk about massacre yourself. Or checked that no one else did before scolding folks for not.

Your comment on my UN is low, unnecessary, personal and ill thought. Much like your OP @PossumintheHouse .

My original point has gone entirely over your head. And, for the record, there was one other thread about this topic with five posts when I started this thread.
I stand by my comment about your username.

There are several Islamic regions within Russia that have complex relationships with the rest of the country

Thanks. I wouldn't have thought they were big enough to warrant this though? It just seems a bit out of nowhere (but as I say, I'm coming from a place of relative ignorance)

Ah, right. So you knew people were already talking about the Moscow massacre before making this post. Why not contribute to that thread instead of creating this whiny, scolding one?🙄

Ursulla · 23/03/2024 02:11

They were all over the Caucasus a few years ago, before moving on to Syria with mostly sleeper cells remaining. Post 2020 they stepped up again in that region and earlier this month Moscow said it killed a few of them.

I don't know, there was an Israeli plane that stopped in one of these regions on the way to Moscow, and the locals when nuts ransacking the hotel and airport trying to find and attack the passengers. There was no control of them at all.

Also, Muslims support each other throughout the world against non-Muslim outsiders.

I can't believe I'm biting...
Right: there was one - one - other thread earlier. Containing five posts. Three of which were written by the original poster, bumping the original information they'd contained in their thread. Because it wasn't getting any traction. I actually didn't spot it prior to creating this thread.
This post was not meant to be scolding. It was observational, based on how the news of yesterday evening was announced, processed and discussed - on MN and in the general media.
Cheers for the baseless insults. Now, moving on.

Medvedev has put something out on Telegram apparently including the line (sic) if it could be proved that the terrorists were from Kyiv..... dire consequences etc....

This isn't the Ukrainians. They know they have to stick to military targets to maintain the sympathy & support of the western world. Plus Zelensky isn't one for killing women & children.

I'd guess this is in reaction to Putin's 'win' at the polls. Possibly chechen rebels.

1dayatatime · 23/03/2024 02:32

Well ISIS have a track record for claiming responsibility for attacks that had nothing to do with them.

They are a much reduced force than they used to be and will happily try and take "credit " from other terrorist attacks for the publicity.

Bit too early to know for sure who did it.

TooBigForMyBoots · 23/03/2024 02:32

I suggest you take time and check before scolding people for not posting in a manner you find timely enough @PossumintheHouse .

Why do we need to rush onto MN to discuss it? I discuss things like this with people I know in real life, not on a forum with a bunch of random people. There is life outside sm you know!

If it happened in a European country perhaps more people would be interested, but in Russia you just kind of assume Putin’s set it up for one reason or another.
