Over 40 dead and at least 100 injured? Obviously there's a lot going on tonight, but the lack of chat about this is surprising?

If there's another big thread and I've missed it, I hold my hands up. I can't find it.

At least 40 killed as gunmen open fire at concert venue in Moscow

Footage taken inside the auditorium shows up to four gunmen firing automatic weapons as people crouch and hide behind seats.

Awful. Just when you think things can’t get any worse something else comes along. I too fear for the geopolitical fallout and how things could escalate from here 😞

MistressoftheDarkSide · 22/03/2024 21:17

Guardian are running a live feed. The Culture ministry have announced all large events are cancelled.

Interesting that the US apparently warned about this kind of scenario a couple of weeks ago, which passed me by at the time.

This could get very hinky.....

Eyesopenwideawake · 22/03/2024 21:17

I can't help but think about the theatre in Mariupol. 600 dead.

Agreed. The world is a terrifying place at the moment 😫

MistressoftheDarkSide · 22/03/2024 21:21

Medvedev has put something out on Telegram apparently including the line (sic) if it could be proved that the terrorists were from Kyiv..... dire consequences etc....

LiterallyOnFire · 22/03/2024 21:26

The fact that the US security warning referenced "extremists" is maybe worth hanging on to? I can't imagine the Americans referring to Ukrainian covert ops that way.

Even if that's right, then there's the matter of making it demonstrably obvious that it wasn't the Ukrainians, to make it harder to direct the retaliation at them.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 22/03/2024 21:28

Reuters are now reporting that Islamic State have claimed responsibility.....

Wednesday6 · 22/03/2024 21:32

The concert was a sold out with over 6800 tickets sold that night... we don't know yet how many people died in the fire. Horrible tragedy.. whoever is responsible this won't be good for the people of Russia I am afraid and internal terror will only get worse.

HelloMiss · 22/03/2024 21:35

Just read ISIS

pavillion1 · 22/03/2024 21:46

maybe just want to enjoy their Friday evening 🤷🏻‍♀️

Papyrophile · 22/03/2024 21:51

Whoever did this, it is a shameless atrocity, to be condemned without reserve.

WandaWonder · 22/03/2024 21:53

Why do expect others to talk about it? People want a thread they start it like you have done

This 'nobody is...' is odd threads start when people create them

wizzywig · 22/03/2024 21:53

Hasn't it been c9nfirmed as a terrorist attack?

Anonymous2025 · 22/03/2024 22:39

It’s awful , thankfully the friends we have in Moscow that are more like family are away as they didn’t want to be forced to vote for Putin . The world is going crazy

NigelHarmansNewWife · 22/03/2024 22:39

Islamic State has claimed it's them. Who knows the motivation. Same day that Russia used it's veto in the UN to block an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. A few days after Putin's election "victory".

alesia · 22/03/2024 22:45

False flag by Putin and his regime

There is another earlier thread about this, it’s in Chat.

Most of the ‘terrorist’ atrocities in Moscow over the past few decades have been proven to be false flags, where Putin has blown up a block of flats, blames the Chechens then used it as an excuse to invade Chechnya. We’ll know if it’s a false flag if it’s blames it on overseas countries.

But yes, truly terrible, shocking scenes.

I suspect that you have absolutely no credible evidence for this statement.

DonnaBanana · 22/03/2024 23:15

It’s tragic for the families affected and I think it’s getting covered quite a bit. Certainly more than when 40+ people are killed in terrorist bombings in counties in Asia, Middle East, or Africa. “But Russians are more like us.” No, they’re not.

This.

It’s all anyone on my Twitter is talking about though.

I think a lot of MSM don’t know what to say about it as it’s all so odd. And because most terrorist incidents in russia are false flags carried out by their own govt.

ISIS claimed responsibility but they’re not necessarily a reliable source of information!

PassMeTheCookies · 22/03/2024 23:35

Gosh, I hadn't seen this. How awful. I have a feeling attacks claimed by ISIS are going to increase around the world, given world leaders are doing next to nothing to cease the situation in Gaza. I fear there's going to be large scale retaliation for all.

I hope that fear is unfounded, but I find myself thinking about it more and more.
