Do you vape?

I know this will attract judgement but I'm not asking for criticism, just discussion.

Never been a smoker but recently took up vaping. Dh does it and so do a few friends. I was curious. We are going through a very stressful time in life - young dc and no help, demanding job, house renovation. I was winding down in the evenings using booze and junk food which wasn't good for me either so I suppose I just wanted to try something that helped relax me. I do enjoy it but I don't think I'm 'addicted' per se, for example I don't take it out with me during the day and don't miss it. I just use it in the evenings.

Anyway bizarrely I have health anxiety which is quite ridiculous when I think of all of the unhealthy habits and coping mechanisms I have. But I do worry about the vape. There is so much conflicting info out there - loads of sources saying it's much better than smoking others saying it's as bad or worse. All the alleged health issues they can cause but no definitive studies as they've not been around long enough.

So I guess I'm wondering if you vape, why? What does it bring you? And do you worry about the health impact?

I hope all the superior and judgmental posters have sold their particle emitting SUVs.

I think they look so silly sitting a few miles above everyone else on the roads, spewing out god knows what into our faces while we walk on the footpath.

But that's ok. Walking is for wimps. See at the school run Sally!

Hate vaping, walk the school run when I don’t have to go directly to work afterwards, and my small car is electric. What’s your point?

No I don't, just thinking about it or walking past someone doing it makes me want to vomit. It reminds me of a sickly version of an air freshener, which I don't like either.
You don't need studies to come to the conclusion that inhaling thousands of chemicals is bad for you.

I think some of the vapes smell like vomit or Jeyes fluid.

Nope not yet. However I've had a few separate weeks off - once when we went on holiday and I didn't want the kids to see so I just didn't take it.
Secondly when I'd had a medical procedure and was advised against any kind of smoking/vaping for up to 48 hours. But I actually went double that to be safe.
I still don't take it out during the day. It's a little vice for the evenings.

I understand where you're coming from with the stress and seeking relaxation. Vaping in the evenings has been a way for me to unwind without resorting to less healthy habits. It's more about the routine and the calming effect it provides in those moments. Like you, I've read conflicting reports on its health impacts, which can be worrying.

I've recently switched to Pacman disposables, partly because they seemed more convenient and less intrusive during the day. It's a personal choice, balancing relaxation with health concerns amidst all the information out there.

And that doesn't look like a advert digging up a few months old thread to recommend some company.

This. Why do people think that they’re entitled to blow their shitty smoke all over others? Absolutely zero self awareness, but realistically also given the vast majority of vaping ‘types’ an entitled and disrespectful attitude

I don’t want to see people walking down the road eating a pasty from Greggs then dropping their litter but there we are

You’re not forced to take a bite though, are you? If the litter bothers you that much, you can pick it up without potential hazard.

No, TBH I think it’s childish, something teens do to try to look cool or grown up.

Neighbours vaping in the flat below has caused me extensive smell allergy. I am now allergic to not only vapes but all fragrances too, including those in cleaning products and essential oils. When vapers open windows in their flat below us, the smell rises up to our level above and enters our windows. Sometimes we smell weed mixed with vapes too. It causes me severe allergies, and in hot weather I am unable to open windows to cool the apartment or get fresh air.

They also spray their lobby and communal staircase with perfume to hide the smell, which I have become allergic to since they moved in 2 years ago. My husband suffers from lung cancer and has breathing difficulties. He also gets affected by these fumes that irritate his lungs and cause profound coughing.
It has become a nightmare living in a flat, which we are having to sell and move to a detached house despite very tight budget.

Vapers seem to have no consderation for others. People, wake up, the vaping pandemic has arrived! And it will cost NHS a lot more than the profit made from vapes.

Can’t get my head around any adult @fantalimon23 who ever reads / listens to/ watches the news thinking “I know, I’ll start up vaping” let alone one with health anxiety and children in the house
