To not worry about my manky foot (horrible pic included)

I was at a wedding at the weekend and someone accidentally stood on my foot wearing a high heel (you can see the scabby bit where that happened). Now 5 days later my foot looks like this, it seems to be getting worse every day. It’s not massively painful, but the whole area is itchy as hell. Do I need to worry or is it just a bruise? I just tried to send a photo to my doctor but they are offline and not taking any new requests.

I looks broken. Get yourself to an Urgent Care/A&E pronto.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 20/03/2024 14:41

Urgent care, looks broken.

DSD9472 · 20/03/2024 14:42

Can you walk on it? It might be the bruise, but were your toes curled back like that before? I had similar bruising when I cracked the 5th metatarsal- not snapped in half, but cracked through the bone. I'd get it checked.

Picklestop · 20/03/2024 14:42

OMG that looks so painful. Incredible that a trod on foot can cause such damage. I do think you should seek treatment.

abricotine · 20/03/2024 14:42

As above. X ray needed

McVities99 · 20/03/2024 14:43

A&E job. Needs an xray.

Feet do bruise badly, in my experience.

I dropped a tin of soup on my bare foot a couple of months ago and it was as black and blue as yours for a couple of weeks. Not massively painful though, once the initial agony wore off.

KreedKafer · 20/03/2024 14:45

Bruising does tend to get worse before it gets better, if you see what I mean, and the foot isn't a very fleshy area so can bruise very easily. The itching is a bit weird, but the healing process can make skin itch a lot sometimes so it could just be something like that. Unless you're in a lot of pain, or the pain is getting worse day by day, I would probably inclined just to put an ice pack on it and try to keep it elevated.

If your foot feels hot to the touch, starts swelling up, gets increasingly painful, and/or you start seeing anything yellow or gunky around/under the scab, or start feeling feverish or sick, then you definitely need to get it looked at immediately in case it's infected - that would be a sepsis risk.

OwwMyFoot · 20/03/2024 14:46

I can move it/walk on it fine, it’s a bit tender but no massive pain…is it still possible it’s broken? It was a lot more painful the first few days, it was very uncomfortable to walk or sleep.

"It’s not massively painful"

Cracking bruise! If it's not very painful and you can walk / weight bear then you probably don't need A&E. When you say it's 'getting worse every day' do you mean the bruising or the pain or something else?

It's normal for a bruises to get more colourful before it starts to fade. Rest, ice elevation etc and seek help if movement is impaired or pain gets worse/ doesn't get better.

Poshjock · 20/03/2024 14:49

Irrespective whether there's a fracture or not, you have a significant internal bleeding injury with inflammation which have been increasing since point of injury and can do up to 5 days which is why the pain has been increasing. Going to hospital will give you access to tools and advice which will make it easier to manage and promote healing.

OwwMyFoot · 20/03/2024 14:49

Another manky photo! It’s mostly around the puncture site that it’s itching.

SendMeHomeNow · 20/03/2024 14:49

Yes it could still be broken, I wouldn’t risk leaving it in case it then causes you problems in the future.

RoseBucket · 20/03/2024 14:51

That looks like mine when I fractured a bone in my foot, there are numerous bones in the foot. I was just given a fracture boot to wear for a few weeks which did help taken the pressure off.

OwwMyFoot · 20/03/2024 14:52

@AltitudeCheck I mean the bruising and itching is getting worse. It happened Friday night but the pain started getting better around Monday. I was in the arse end of Ireland and in the middle of wedding/st Patrick’s day celebrations before flying back Monday so getting it looked at over there wasn’t really an option.

BellaVita · 20/03/2024 14:54

Please go and get it checked out.

Sparklesocks · 20/03/2024 14:55

If it’s getting worse you should get it checked out. I fell once and rolled my foot and it went all the colours of the rainbow over the course of the week but it was just a bruise (looked far worse than it was). So it might be like mine, but worth being sure.

Newuser75 · 20/03/2024 14:56

I'd agree to get that checked. The bruising is huge so I'd also suspect a fracture if I'm honest.

Trickedbyadoughnut · 20/03/2024 14:56

My friend has just been diagnosed with a break in her foot, despite her saying she can barely feel any pain when walking and it looks a lot better than yours!

RandomUsernameHere · 20/03/2024 14:56

Ouch! Sending sympathy (sorry no advice to add)!

viques · 20/03/2024 14:56

Lord knows what was lurking on the heel of that shoe! Since the skin is damaged I would be worried about some deep infection, though to be honest I think it would be seeping by now. But I would still get it checked.

Ivyy · 20/03/2024 14:57

Ouch, I'd be worried about cellulitis op

CagneyAndLazy · 20/03/2024 14:57

Itching is very normal when skin is healing from a cut or scrape, so wouldn't be too concerned about that bit, unless it's unbearably bad.

OwwMyFoot · 20/03/2024 14:58

Thanks all, I’ll go to the minor injuries unit that can do x rays and see what they say.
