To not worry about my manky foot (horrible pic included)

I was at a wedding at the weekend and someone accidentally stood on my foot wearing a high heel (you can see the scabby bit where that happened). Now 5 days later my foot looks like this, it seems to be getting worse every day. It’s not massively painful, but the whole area is itchy as hell. Do I need to worry or is it just a bruise? I just tried to send a photo to my doctor but they are offline and not taking any new requests.

I hope you get in tomorrow. I had similar bruising...twisted ankle falling downstairs. Didn't think anything if it ..silly of me but didn't get it checked...3 month i struggled to walk... found out i had fractured bone in foot..too late to do anything now...but i suffer still 4 years on. Hope it goes well

Mayflower282 · 21/03/2024 17:50

@OwwMyFoot have you had it x-rayed today? Update pls!

OwwMyFoot · 21/03/2024 17:53

Yes I went back, had an x ray and they don’t think it’s broken but are sending the x rays off to hospital so they can have a really good look. Weirdly the pain is worse today and the bruising is looking pretty awesome 🤩

That is a stonking bruise OP, my foot looked like that when our lovely Clydesdale trod on it and then helpfully leaned all his weight on it. Are you sure you got stepped on by a human and not a horse?!

Hopefully the X-rays come up clear for you 🤞

Doyouthinktheyknow · 21/03/2024 18:15

That bruise is amazing!!

I assume it was someone a little bit weighty (like me) that stepped on you?

I don’t wear heels thankfully!

Rosiiee · 21/03/2024 18:15

So they think it’s just bruised…? That’s the mother of all bruises 😳

OwwMyFoot · 21/03/2024 20:09

@MonsteraMama I’ve always had horses and been stood on a fair few times but turns out high heels are worse!

@MonsteraMama I don’t know, I was too pissed by that point to register who the culprit was but I don’t remember anyone particularly chunky dancing!

@Rosiiee yes they think just bruising and soft tissue damage.

Are you sure you didn't get into a fight at this wedding, OP? 🤣

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 22/03/2024 07:53

If you get referred to a 'virtual fracture clinic' you are happy with what you are told. They told me I'd fractured a metatarsal, then 3, then 'a bone in my foot'. I queried it as I wanted the right information on my medical records and it turns out I'd fractured 3 bones, none of which were metatarsals! I was eventually called in to see a doctor face to face and they hadn't even x-rayed my foot, only my ankle so I have no idea where the 3 fractured metatarsals came from.

SabreIsMyFave · 22/03/2024 12:54

I don't understand why your other foot is bruised as well @OwwMyFoot Confused (If only the one foot got stood on.)

I am irrationally angry at this wanker for stepping on your foot.

When I wear heels I'm very careful where I put my feet. So many people lack spatial awareness these days.

If people can't dance safely they should sit the fuck down!

A kickboxing fight!

OwwMyFoot · 22/03/2024 18:46

🤣🤣 no I’m a lover not a fighter.

@toomanyy that’s very sweet but this was after a good solid 12 hours of drinking…and they don’t mess around with getting alcohol down their necks at Irish weddings. So everyone’s balance was probably slightly off. No hard feelings, faceless heel wearer.

I’ve gone away with the kids for the weekend and had too much stuff to drive my smaller, automatic car (no left foot required), so had to do a longish drive in my big manual car which was not fun in the slightest.

Also think I’ll dodge the pool while I’m here,
don’t want to scare any children, Halloween has been and gone.

I was going to say if you can walk about okay on it then it’s probably fine but see you’ve been now!
amazing bruise OP - sounds like a bloody cracking wedding 😂

Not true at all that if you can walk on it, its probably fine! 🙄
I had a supposed minor foot injury stepping on the side of my foot when I was half asleep and it was numb. I heard it crack and the bruising was almost identical to the OP's. I had it X-rayed and was told it was fine, no fracture seen! I worked on my feet 45hrs a week, let alone outside of work. 6 weeks later I was still having pain and it was re-X-rayed. That X-ray report said that 'the fracture was healing'. What fracture???

I'd actually fractured my 5th metatarsal and should have been off work, had it splinted and been on rest the entire time! 20yrs later, I still have twinges in that bone and will be more likely to get arthritis in it.
Just because you can carry on walking, doesn't mean a bone isn't broken!

https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/urgent-and-emergency-care-services/when-to-go-to-ae/

This is 100% not A&E worthy! Urgent treatment centre or GP at most.

I don’t have an ‘urgent treatment centre’ whatever that is and my GP doesn’t do x-rays. If o called up my GP with this I just they’d tell me to go to A&E. I called NHS 24 with a suspected toe fracture and they directed me to A&E.

WhatICallMyUsername · 22/03/2024 23:51

Mine was from having a weight dropped on it, they said I burst a blood vessel and the bruising was the blood draining from my foot. Not as bad as yours but still similar and I did get it checked so not saying you shouldn't

TheChosenTwo · 23/03/2024 00:38

@Loubelle70 @DSD9472 i was just giving my opinion really, bruising is one thing but I tend to go on pain/practicality, if I was in excruciating pain to the extent I could no longer walk I’d get it checked out but after a few days if my only major symptom was bruising I’d probably just leave it.
Not saying that’s what anyone should do, just what I’d do!

OnSecondThoughts · 23/03/2024 01:33

@BashfulClam I don’t have an ‘urgent treatment centre’ whatever that is

They're a sort of "not-quite-as-urgent-as-A&E" place where you can queue (obviously) and get seen by a nurse for things that can't wait for a GP appointment. It's not a bad idea to at least find out where your nearest one is and make a note of it, just in case.

I haven't read the entire thread yet, so please ignore if I am repeating what pp's say. . I believe puncture wounds need antibiotics, Your poor foot hope you mend soon.

Another manky photo! It’s mostly around the puncture site that it’s itching.

Op, that needs to be looked at 😮
