I can literally never find a pair of socks! I constantly buy them and the kids just throw them off anywhere? please tell me I am not alone. DH said I have a huge issue with it and its appalling that I cannot manage it:(

Everyone is my house has black socks. I don't care if they are slightly different shades or lengths. Once on, no one can tell the difference. As my brother said years ago. 'Just because they are sold in pairs, doesn't mean you have to wear them in pairs'

donteatthedaisies0 · 18/03/2024 10:19

Not only sock problems but fucking forks ! Where do they go !?

It's teaspoons in my house.

Maybe they ran off with your forks.

ViciousCurrentBun · 18/03/2024 10:22

As DS grew I would always buy his socks in bulk, so he had 20 pairs of the exact same sock. DH and I do the same for ourselves though we have a few that are different. Makes it much easier, no need to ball them at all.

I think you find they are in my sons bedroom 🙄

I was just about to say the same! Where on earth do all the teaspoons go??

Regarding socks. I no longer care. I take my socks off the drier and hopefully I get a pair back, but the rest of the socks go into a bag for life and my DH and DSs can help themselves. I don't care if they wear odd socks anymore and so I don't care that they're not in pairs or spend time wondering where they went anymore.

Pu it this way, there is no way I'm searching for odd socks in teenage boys rooms!

On a side note, if your DH said that to you seriously, he wasn't joking, then you have a bigger problem than missing socks.

ScrabbleUnoDobble · 18/03/2024 10:27

No odd socks in this house!
Have had to replace the forks and teaspoons a couple of times though... I think the kids accidentally chuck them in the bin and can't be bothered to fish them out!

Elisabeth3468 · 18/03/2024 10:27

OMG yes!!! Socks seem basically disposable 😂 I buy my 2 year old new socks so often

Moofart · 18/03/2024 10:28

If I could show you the huge bag of miscellaneous socks we have you'd see how you're not alone. Not sure why your husband sees it as your responsibility!

Moofart · 18/03/2024 10:30

Also I once told my ten year old I'd pay him 10p per pair of socks he matched. He made £7.20.

skgnome · 18/03/2024 10:33

We just bulk buy socks, same style different colours and don’t even worry about matching them
”odd sock” are “cool” they even sell them that way
evereyone knows the washing machines are actually powered by a tiny monster that it’s fuelled by socks!

nadine90 · 18/03/2024 10:36

He said what now?! Tell him he can be on sock duty if he thinks he’d do a better job!
I just buy shitloads of black socks.

user1471526265 · 18/03/2024 10:39

My DC are probably older than yours now but we all have those net wash bags that go in the machine and I have requested (demanded) that everyone put their socks into these, 1 each (I got some with different colour zips).

Anyway I no longer have "missing" socks. What I do end up with, however, is a load of holey socks as DS puts in any old worn sock, so I end up discovering that only when they are washed and dried and I am putting them away.

So my next teaching moment is to tell him not to include holey socks but I wonder if it's a slippery slope to him not using the bag at all.

stayathomer · 18/03/2024 10:40

I remember years ago bil and family staying here and a huge search going on about a missing sock. It was fair enough as apparently he ‘invests’ in very good socks but it was very csi and they constantly rang us afterwards asking had it turned up so we thought they were a little mad! Back then the kids were closer in size so we basically just always had cheap black socks and it wasn’t until people starting asking for different colours and types (eg sports, ankle etc) that I realised the hell that is socks and that bil was right to keep on top of every- single- sock!!! I once posted a picture on dm (can’t find it now) of about 30 odd socks, some have the days of the week on them, or are Christmas socks, some ankle in bright colours etc. dh said the same as your dh to me so I said you go find them. Two weeks later he gave up. Tell your dh to sort it (and if he does just go scream into a pillow😅)

ps bil recently started buying only black socks for himself and the kids😅

CaterhamReconstituted · 18/03/2024 10:41

I think socks disappear into that special vortex that teaspoons also go to

CoffeeBeansGalore · 18/03/2024 10:46

Glad to see I'm not the only one with a sock bag 😊.
Had a huge odd sock bag. We were moving & I thought we'd find all the other odd socks. Nope!

onwardsup4 · 18/03/2024 10:59

God knows what happens to them all, one place I find them is inside pillow cases and duvet covers after the wash. This doesn't explain the extent of it though. Yep easier to buy new ones

brytersky · 18/03/2024 11:02

Just buy plain black ones for everyone then have communal socks and just sort them into size although socks always seem to end up the same size anyway 😂

Shopper727 · 18/03/2024 11:14

Yes!!! Glad it’s not just me. The dog has a bloody sock fetish too so I have to dry them high on airer but if he gets on he will shred it. Youngest son who has asd is forever taking socks off and leaving them lying about or he’ll be wearing one sock only?!? And pairing socks for 5 people on your own - no h is tedious and always gets left until last minute.

forks yep got tonnes of knives, spoons and teaspoons but forks are a mystery. My mum used to tell me it was the borrowers. I need to be a borrower am getting fed up replacing stuff that goes missing

Willmafrockfit · 18/03/2024 11:16

I am wearing one pink and one white sock today, both fluffy

Maybe they ran off with your forks.

So if the teaspoons and forks are running off together is that where baby sporks come from?

Weallnamechangesometimes · 18/03/2024 11:22

One thing I do to reduce the issue is bulk buy school socks. 5 packs at the beginning of the school year all identical. If the kids are in different sizes one gets grey one black.

GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight · 18/03/2024 11:23

I just buy all black ones now.
That way they all match 😁

Martinohmygod · 18/03/2024 11:24

thatgirlinjapan · 18/03/2024 10:00

Don't they go to sock land on the other side of the washing machine?

My mum said that's where all socks go 🫠

That’s what I thought until an engineer came to fix our machine once,
no socks at the back .Where had the socky beggars gone?

Koalaslippers · 18/03/2024 11:25

My washing machine only eats my DH or DD socks, it leaves mine and DS"s alone. Or it could just be that we are the only ones that make sure both socks go I'm the basket!
