Just nosey. I know they say you need 8 hours and I’ve always taken this seriously but I’m coming to wonder whether it’s a bit like the guidance to do an hour of exercise a day, etc. Some days it’s just not possible!

How much sleep do you normally get on any given night and do you feel alright on it?

On a good night, 7 hours.
On a normal night, 5.
On a bad one, 3.

I feel like shit a lot.

Whatsgoingonwithmyhead · 17/03/2024 20:40

Probably between 7-8 hours although sometimes less as my 5 year old still sometimes wakes up

Hoglet70 · 17/03/2024 20:42

I'm WFH at the moment so a good 8 but struggle to get 7 when I'm in the office as need to get up earlier. I could do with 10!

brunettemic · 17/03/2024 20:45

Between 6 and 7 as a max. Tend to find if I go to bed earlier I just wake up earlier, it’s like my body has decided this is how much sleep I’m getting and that’s it 😂

Yazzi · 17/03/2024 20:46

7 max for me too- usually 6- 6.5

Mid thirties, 3 kids, full time work

Mnk711 · 17/03/2024 20:46

1-6 hours interrupted, probably averaging 4. Have associated health problems. Same for a couple of friends. It's not bullshit, you need 8h. Obviously sometimes getting less here or there is fine but consistently missing sleep is not OK and will 100% affect your health. A friend's dad has always slept 6h a night or less and keeps having mini strokes aged 60, neurologist has said that lack of sleep has undoubtedly had an effect.

DaisyCat33 · 17/03/2024 20:46

Between 8 and 12. But I'm chronically ill so my amount of sleep is definitely not normal.

LancashireSquirrel · 17/03/2024 20:46

Definitely 8. I prefer 9 though and do aim for that when I can.

100% this!

BrendaSmall · 17/03/2024 20:47

Used to sleep for hours, now I’m lucky to get a maximum of 5/6 hours every night, I feel like crap and sometimes I feel like I could sleep standing up at work, I have a very active job and work 9 hours a day!

Micsam89 · 17/03/2024 20:47

7 on a bad night, 8 usually. I've always needed 8-9 to function. If I have a few 6-7 in a row, I'm a zombie and feel physically ill.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 17/03/2024 20:47

About 4 or 5.

Tinkeytonkoldfruit · 17/03/2024 20:48

I love it when I can smash out 8 hours but it very rarely happens, much more likely to be 6-7 hours which isn't really enough but is doable, I tend to want a nap at weekend to make up.

QueSyrahSyrah · 17/03/2024 20:48

At the moment 7-8. I'm pregnant so going to bed earlier which is definitely helping in the winding down and getting to sleep earlier. No alcohol helps too for sure!

Banking it all for when baby arrives 😣

Avopopcorn · 17/03/2024 20:48

I'd like 9. I typically get about four hours of very broken sleep, currently being woken up every twenty mins 😥.

I wouldn't say that I'm managing particularly well on it, but know it won't be forever (toddler and nine month old).

elliejjtiny · 17/03/2024 20:49

6 unbroken or 8 in 2 or 3 chunks. That's on a good night. I'm knackered. 41 year old mum of 5, 2 don't sleep through the night.

GreenMarigold · 17/03/2024 20:49

Pretty consistent 7-8 hours.

Sprinkles211 · 17/03/2024 20:49

Anything from 6 hours broken sleep to absolutely none (3 sen children) I'm exhausted most the time past burnout.

WildBear · 17/03/2024 20:50

7-7.5 hours (generally midnight/12.30 to 7.30.

If I don't get at least 6 hours, I end up trying (unsuccessfully) to fight off a headache caused by lack of sleep.

MissingMoominMamma · 17/03/2024 20:50

Around 9. I’m 58 and my sleep has improved immensely since I went on HRT.

LipstickLil · 17/03/2024 20:51

Between 7-8 hours usually, which is fine for me.

Bridgetoo · 17/03/2024 20:51

I aim for 8 and go to bed early enough - but end up getting 6-7.

If I do manage 8 (or sometimes 9) then I can't get to sleep the following night. I'm just lying awake.

mummabubs · 17/03/2024 20:51

Apparently I've never needed much sleep, even as a baby. As an adult with two young children I'd say I average about 5 hours a night. Very rarely 8, even if the kids sleep through I wake up well before that! My sisters are easily able to do 8-10 hours, they're also able to "day nap" if they're tired, whereas I've never been able to unless very ill!

MrsHamlet · 17/03/2024 20:51

Insomnia is the only thing my HRT hasn't cured.

ginsparkles · 17/03/2024 20:51

Mostly 6-7, on a good day 8. On an either a bad day or if the book I'm reading is simply too good to put down ... 1 or 2 hours!

I have a back injury which leads to insomnia so if I can get more than a couple of hours I'm happy, I have had a long period of 6 hour nights recently so feeling a lot more human than normal but not counting my chickens!!
