To ask you how much sleep you usually get a night?

Just nosey. I know they say you need 8 hours and I’ve always taken this seriously but I’m coming to wonder whether it’s a bit like the guidance to do an hour of exercise a day, etc. Some days it’s just not possible!

How much sleep do you normally get on any given night and do you feel alright on it?

Between 6 and 7. I used to have trouble getting to sleep. These days I fall asleep really quickly but wake up annoyingly early.

NoisyBrain · 17/03/2024 21:22

I've suffered with insomnia for more than 15 years. Like @NeverDropYourMooncup I've also had to do a full day's work after literally no sleep on several occasions.

If I can get 6 hours genuinely unbroken sleep I feel amazing. Sadly my bladder rarely allows this to happen. 7-ish hours with a wake-up in the middle to pee is my 'normal'. How long that wake up lasts very much depends on me being able to quieten my mind (hence my username).

The worst nights are when I can't fall asleep to start with. 3-4 hours is the best I can hope for when that happens.

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 17/03/2024 21:24

Average according to my watch is 6 and a half hours.

Simonjt · 17/03/2024 21:24

5 on average, I’ve always been a very poor sleeper, I’m also a light sleeper so I’m woken up by little things in the night. I’m also a sleep walker, so I’m not reallt getting rest when I sleep!

Hardbackwriter · 17/03/2024 21:26

According to my Fitbit I average 6hr51 a night. I feel good on that. I've always needed a bit less sleep than average, and used to be quite smug about it - until I had my first baby and it turned out I slept less because I slept deeply quickly, and that I dealt absolutely terribly with broken sleep. I really felt I was losing my mind.

Floralnomad · 17/03/2024 21:27

4-6 but I’ve been doing it so long I feel fine on it . I cannot get to sleep and when I do get to sleep I wake up constantly. The only time I ever have 4+ hours continuous sleep is if I’m very unwell .

Minfilia · 17/03/2024 21:28

6-7 on average. I never get a lie in or chance to catch up either.

I would add one or two nights a week it’s more like 5.

I am pretty tired.

Busybee44 · 17/03/2024 21:28

7-8,. struggle on less

Itiswhysofew · 17/03/2024 21:28

Between 5-7 hours. I don't like going to sleep, therefore, I go to bed late. I know I could sleep more, but I just don't want to.

TheGriffle · 17/03/2024 21:29

I’m a night owl and suffer from sleep procrastination. Probably average 6 hours or less and I’m permanently tired, never wake up rested.

Mrsjayy · 17/03/2024 21:29

I like 9 if I'm lucky 10 I'm up and down though the night so I like to be in bed early.

Samsam23 · 17/03/2024 21:30

About 4-5 hours of interrupted sleep. Been like it for years. If I do ever end up getting more hours or solid sleep I feel hungover

omg i love going to sleep!!!

Snugglemonkey · 17/03/2024 21:31

4/5 hours at present. It is killing me.

suki1964 · 17/03/2024 21:32

On a good night 6 with just needing to get up once

A normal night is 5 hours with getting up once

A bad night is around 3 hours, getting up once or twice

Upinthenightagain · 17/03/2024 21:34

6.5 on a good night. Often broken up by three year old

Mumaway · 17/03/2024 21:35

Usually 7-8 with at least 2 wake ups. More recently more like 5 as have a lot on my mind. Ideal would be 9.5

KThnxBye · 17/03/2024 21:35

Longest night in the past few weeks was 5 hours 42 minutes.

Shortest night was 2 hours 39 minutes.

I struggle on less than 4 but very rarely have time for more than 6. Average about 4 and a half hours. Very rare to manage to get to bed before 2am and need to be up by 7am. I don’t nap either but do sometimes try for a lie in.

Most days life is too busy to spend in bed.

Iscreamtea · 17/03/2024 21:39

At the moment I'm averaging about 5 hours of broken sleep and I'm exhausted. On a good night I get 6 hrs unbroken which I can function with but I can't remember when that last happened. I'd love to get more sleep.

SIacker · 17/03/2024 21:48

I think I sleep for about 7 - 7.5 hrs a night on average. But my fitbit tells me it's only 6.5 hrs because it takes off all the times I wake up in the night but don't remember!

Everyoneisunreasonable · 17/03/2024 21:55

My watch says 7h 39 average for last month.

MrsHamlet · 17/03/2024 20:51

Insomnia is the only thing my HRT hasn't cured.

@MrsHamlet I feel your pain: I am on HRt but have been using CBD sleep drops and they have helped massively with my sleep issues.

Goinggoingone · 17/03/2024 22:18

I genuinely don't know how some on this thread survive. I get between 7 and 9 hours most nights and I'd really struggle with less. Seems I'm very lucky.

Snore2024 · 17/03/2024 22:29

I would love to have 8 hours. Usually get 6.5 to 7. A few days a week it will be 6 or less. Maybe once every 10 days I'll manage 8.

Bluegray2 · 17/03/2024 22:42

5.5 to 6, definitely not enough, need to do something about it, I have terrible sleeping habits and stay on my phone till 2am watching stuff or listening to podcasts
