Just nosey. I know they say you need 8 hours and I’ve always taken this seriously but I’m coming to wonder whether it’s a bit like the guidance to do an hour of exercise a day, etc. Some days it’s just not possible!

How much sleep do you normally get on any given night and do you feel alright on it?

I'd love to know how old some of you are. Up till my mid 40's my sleep was fine.. mid 50's and I wake up 2/3 hours after going to sleep and can't get back to sleep till almost the morning.

I'm a zombie unless I take a pill.

TheLizardQueen · 17/03/2024 23:00

I need at least 8 hours but much prefer 9-10 hours. I love my sleep!

TiredMum30 · 17/03/2024 23:01

Most nights it's around 5-6 hours, sometimes I'll have 1 or maybe 2 very bad nights a week where I'll only get a few hours sleep but I do get chance to get a sleep in on a weekend but i don't always sleep too well on those nights either but atleast I can stay in bed longer

I’m 49. Slept fine till my early 30s, then the combination of a stressful job and marriage break up sent it all to shit and it never fully recovered.

I’m also a really light sleeper. Silicone ear plugs have saved my sanity.

NellePorter · 17/03/2024 23:16

5-6 hours. Feel permanently exhausted.

I'm 57. Have slept well all my life. I know I'm lucky. DM & DS are the opposite. I just don't seem to want to go to sleep, which means I sleep less than I'm actually able to.

Diamondcurtains · 18/03/2024 00:14

Not much at all. I’m a night owl and usually get between 5 and 6 hours a night.

Mama2many73 · 18/03/2024 00:14

MrsHamlet · 17/03/2024 20:40

On a good night, 7 hours.
On a normal night, 5.
On a bad one, 3.

I feel like shit a lot.

Pretty much me to a tee!!
Average is 5.

Willyoujustbequiet · 18/03/2024 00:17

Average 4. I'm family carer. Yes I'm knackered and no there is no help.

Peaceandquietwithmydog · 18/03/2024 00:21

My hip wakes me up every couple of hours and then I take ages to get back to sleep .My best sleep is at about 6am to 8 am . So probably about 5-6 hrs .

caringcarer · 18/03/2024 00:53

If I get 4 1/2 hours I've done really well. I usually get about 4 hours per night.

Growlybear83 · 18/03/2024 00:56

I get between 5-6 hours on average. I feel a bit dozey if I get much less than that but I couldn't normally sleep for longer than 6 hours.

Thursa · 18/03/2024 01:22

I’m 60. 4/5 hours is a good night, but I’ll waken at least once. A couple of night a week I won’t sleep at all.

DinnaeFashYersel · 18/03/2024 01:25

3 hours 🥲

TealSapphire · 18/03/2024 01:58

8-10 hours a night so average 9 I guess. Sometimes 12 at the weekend.

I think a lot of people must underestimate how much sleep they get. I mean 5 hours is simply unsustainable.

JayJay514 · 18/03/2024 02:00

It depends. Tonight’s a work night and I’m just home and won’t sleep til nearer 3 then I’m up for the school run at 7. A good night normally means 6/7 hours.

Pickles2023 · 18/03/2024 02:00

4-6 hours.

Not through choice 😅 my LO is an awful sleeper, every few hours i am up resettling.

Then once i am awake i can't just go back to sleep straightaway.
I am so sound sensitive, my DH breathing keeps me awake, a dripping tap ect.

I would be so much more proactive and useful in the day if i wasn't constantly sleep deprived.

Starship21 · 18/03/2024 03:02

2 hours! I'm exhausted and feel like rubbish most days

MrsHughesPinny · 18/03/2024 03:11

5-6, typically. Even if I try to go to bed earlier I just lie there wide awake until the time I’m usually tired (between midnight and 1).

Please don't doubt peoples difficulties.

I'm in a lot of pain but Dr doesn't agree with painkillers, and getting two hours of natural sleep, sometimes broken, then awake for three then knocking myself out for two and a half to three with a sleeping tablet.
Nights in between I'm getting periods of drifting off for 45 min periods or nothing. When I can't take anymore I'm using alcohol to knock myself out which is horrible.
It is unsustainable and unsafe to be this exhausted, and I've had to plead with my Dr for the temporary supply of sleeping tablets which they really don't want me to have.

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 18/03/2024 04:38

Mid 30s, on mat leave and have a 10mo old.

7-8hrs is great
6hrs is normal
4-5 is bad night

sunnydayhereandnow · 18/03/2024 04:58

Mid 40s. Generally about 6.5. Would love to get more but have a small kid and high workload so I try to get back to working after kid goes to sleep till 10:30 or so, but then I still need an hour so so to relax before bed.

garlictwist · 18/03/2024 05:03

I tend to wake up naturally after 7 hours no matter what time I went to bed. If I'm super tired it might be 8.

Deargodletitgo · 18/03/2024 05:04

Well, I'm up now due to a ginger twat of a cat. I get about 6 hours generally

Natsku · 18/03/2024 06:09

I go to bed around 10, takes me an hour or two to fall asleep, then I get up at 6. I try and make up for it at weekends and sleep in.
