I really like the certainty of the non believers/scientists here.

Can one/some of you clever folk tell me what you think might have been going on here then please, because we've been unable to get to the bottom of it.

The house I lived in before this one was a cottage converted from old stables.
Family members, friends, DH and I and several tradesmen and visitors all saw the same thing. Visitors and tradesmen told us they'd seen it when we'd not mentioned it to them so it wasn't something we'd suggested. It happened at all times of the day, different light levels and throughout the year. Curtains pulled/open/broad daylight or gloaming.

At knee height a black spot about the size of a ping pong ball (perhaps slightly bigger) would dart across the room then disappear. Always the sitting room, nowhere else in the house, but in different places in the sitting room. It would travel about 75cm or 1m and then disappear. It always went right to left.

It wasn't at all woo or spooky. Grown men, kids, elderly people all saw it and couldn't explain it. We had terriers who never reacted to it (and they were prey mad terriers who would go mad for a mouse etc). On occasion two people would see it at the same time.

Not saying it was a ghost, but what was it?

decionsdecisions62 · 17/03/2024 21:04

@SomersetTart look up 'orbs'.

alwaysmovingforwards · 17/03/2024 21:04

I did believe in ghosts... when I was a primary school aged child.

But as an adult?
Is this for real?!?
😂

IncompleteSenten · 17/03/2024 21:06

No idea. Didn't see it. Could have been anything.

I'm open to evidence and perfectly willing to change my mind if given evidence but someone telling you they saw something only means they are telling you they saw something.

Given it was seen so often and by so many people, were you ever able to record it?

decionsdecisions62 · 17/03/2024 21:07

@IncompleteSenten I don't think it's necessarily us they are interested in but the planet resources and there are some schools of thought on this issue to say they don't travel they exist in a multiverse along side us. Who knows. There's definitely something but I just don't think we've evolved enough to understand it.

Lonelycrab · 17/03/2024 21:07

I absolutely 100% believe in aliens. I believe the universe is teeming with life

While I’m not convinced that the universe is entirely empty from life forms, our somewhat advanced technology hasn’t been able to detect any such signs of this. For advanced life forms to exist, there must be surely many many more not so advanced life forms- these could be detected, just like we could be right now with the huge amount of information we spew into space from earth.. But they haven’t. No signatures have been found.

So it’s incorrect to say our universe is teeming with life. At least the universe we can see right now which actually stretches an awful long way. Nothings detected anything useful yet.

Any such beings that could get around the problems of these distances would be, imo, so far advanced from us that it would be like comparing what an amoeba could understand next to a human- it’s Mindbendingly so far advanced of us, any attempt at understanding them goes out the window. So it’s pointless trying to conject, imo.

No photos or video damn it. It was so darting, gone in a second so you couldn't pick up a camera and catch it and we never caught it by accident in the background of a photo. If we'd been concerned we might have arranged a camera, but it was just one of those things.

I totally get the some one telling you they saw something thing and if I hadn't seen it and heard all the other people say they'd seen it I'd feel the same. The fact they all described the movement, right to left, knee height that we saw makes us thing something must have been going on. But yeah, I get it, you don't know me from Adam and I might be making it up or have a rich imagination. I'm not and I haven't.

I genuinely don't think it was anything woo and certainly nobody ever felt scared, just a kind of WTF is that.

IncompleteSenten · 17/03/2024 21:17

Obviously I have no evidence so it's just a different kind of faith really but I do believe the universe is teeming with life. I'm not sure how our tech would detect microbes and other very basic forms of life in other galaxies though. How would we do that?

I really think the universe is full of life. Advanced life will be far fewer but certainly not limited to us. And we don't even know just how big it is, or whether it's one of many universes. But the bigger it is or the more there are the less likely it is that we are alone in it. An infinite cosmos, 13 billion years old and only one planet has or has ever had life? It just doesn't seem logical. There's speculation there may be evidence of life on other planets and bodies with water in this solar system. That would be amazing! Can you imagine?

My guess would be tricks of the light, dust or mould on a draft, it's an old building. I mean there are lots of possibilities particularly if you never got a good look at it your brain fills in the gaps. Gone in a second gives you no chance to properly process it but our brains hate not being able to know what something is so we give things shapes and patterns. And faces a lot of the time which is weird as fuck.

I see loads of things out of the corner of my eye! My brain goes was that a rat? quite a bit (it wasn't) and I'm forever catching a side glimpse of what looks like someone moving just out of the part of my vision where I'd be able to see clearly what it was iyswim. I whip my head round and there's nothing there. It's just my broken brain.

Pulling out the citations from the book I mentioned is not a simple endeavour, since I'd want to point you to the ones that have incontrovertible results.

Since this is something I feel strongly about, and trusting that you are actually interested in being pointed at some strong evidence for the existence of psychic phenomena, I will attempt to provide some citations in the next week ( I work and dogsit).

I'd be interested in these too.

I find the way that the developing theories of quantum physics is starting to begin to explain how some of the magical and psychic phenomenon occur is fascinating.

It wasn't that long ago that anyone who claimed that time was not an absoute would have been ridiculed as much as those of us in the thread who accept ghostly phenonemon are being now.

Yes I totally agree with you. The same thing happens to me. I think who's that there and it's just that out of the corner of my eye I've seen a curtain blowing in the wind or something.

If it was just me I would totally get that. I want to get that about this, but all those people, all times of day and light, always knee high, always right to left, same distance, colour and shape? If it had been a mirror or window catching the light or something the dogs would have been chasing it. You could make the little nutters jump up the walls to try to catch the reflection from your watch! It seemed so 'real' when you saw it, not instantly dismissible like the curtain type of thing.

Another thing was, that if we talked about it e.g. the chimney sweep would say, 'What's that funny thing that happens here then?' and we'd have a chat then nobody would see it for a few weeks. Then it'd start again.

We've moved now (not related to 'the darting' I hasten to add) and it's not happened to us or any friends, family or the workmen we've had here in the new place (equally old). It was definitely something to do with that house and now we're gone we'll never know. Bloody interesting though.

Thanks for taking the time to talk to me about this. It's interesting to get a totally non woo view.

I was sceptical until we moved to our current house 10 years ago. I believe it’s what you might call a mischievous spirit. Ornaments flying off cabinets, being moved overnight. One night whilst in bed it honestly sounded like the wardrobe had fallen over. Even my sceptical husband couldn’t put a scientific spin on that one. We’ve even heard knocking on the bedroom wall, and there’s no one in the spare room. I was even contemplating having my neighbour who was a vicar coming and blessing the house. I had ornaments flying off the bedroom window boards out of the open windows, I watched them falling whilst sitting in the room below, so surreal. It happened more than once. We also had mirrors that not only fell off the wall, no broken strings, but launched themselves several feet away from the wall.

The final straw came when there was a loud banging coming from the dining room, the dogs were all on tenterhooks wondering what on earth was happening. I got up and basically shouted at whatever was causing it, I’d had enough, told them it was time to stop as they were frightening the dogs. This was 3 years ago and we haven’t heard anything since, fingers crossed. I have no explanation for it and I’m still mystified by the strange goings on. No one has died in the house, and none of the previous neighbours had any strange goings on.

Very obliging of them to just stop on request. I wonder if they didn’t know they were ghosts, were freaked out by a disembodied voice complaining about the noise when they were doing a spot of DIY in the dining room and have now moved out thinking the house is haunted.

I love talking about this stuff too because I think the human brain is fascinating.

IncompleteSenten · 17/03/2024 22:37

I was reading this article about time - that we perceive time as linear but in another way, all of time is happening all at once.

Now, if that was true - would that mean that we are all someones ghost, knocking and banging and moving things around? 🤔

Iluvteandbiscuits · 17/03/2024 22:41

IncompleteSenten · 17/03/2024 22:29

Yes it is fascinating and one of the most fascinating things I find is that people perceptions of that they often experience is very very often different than reality.

I find this 90% of the time when taking a statement from an individual and there is video evidence of it too. Their recollections are nearly always different than reality.

You can test this on yourself as I have done on numerous occasions and its surprising too realise how your perceive things at the moment to watching it back after. Easiest way is either if you have a dash cam or you get one, next time some thing occurs watch the video back and a lot of the time you'll say too your self well it seemed different at the time or I'm sure it did not quite happen like that. May be the timing or the distance or other factors. 🤔

So when some one says I know what I saw more often that not it was not.

IncompleteSenten · 17/03/2024 22:44

Oh yes, we rewrite stuff all the time.
I saw a video showing how easily memories are manipulated. Creating a memory in this man of him getting lost as a child was one of them.

We really cannot trust ourselves.

I didn't until 3 if us saw one, at different times, without discussing what we'd seen until much later. I think it had come out to play as it looked very like the youngest of us who saw it.
