Threads being posted again? Going crazy?

AvonleaHeart · 17/03/2024 03:52

Am I going nuts or are threads popping up that are exactly the same as ones posted months or even years ago, but just with a current date???

I feel like there's been several now where I am almost positive I have read it before.

I saw someone ask this on one of the threads and OP denied it...

Maybe I am imagining things as not sure what the motivation would be for doing it.

YABU - You are imagining things
YANBU - I've noticed this too

Yes I've thought this a couple of times.
Click on a thread and thought 'oh it's a zombie thread from ages ago' then looked to see how old it is but the date was today or yesterday.

Hmmm...

Ready4ActionRyderSir · 17/03/2024 03:58

I had this with a thread yesterday. Read it and absolutely convinced I’d read it almost word for word a couple of weeks back, couldn’t believe it was only posted that day.

Mothership4two · 17/03/2024 03:58

I've seen similar but not exactly the same.

Thank you!!!

I'm so glad I'm not the only

Maybe Mumsnet isn't getting the same level of traffic they once did, so they are recycling posts?
But that is a bit of a conspiracy theory haha

Yes! Same here.
Exactly this!

It's a weird feeling

If it happens again I'll come back here and post a link

Good idea, I'm going to start keeping track too!
Maybe we can figure this out 😅

I think its more likely its trolls just reposting their previous threads

I saw one earlier and I know I've read it before

I’ve felt this for quite a while now.

Mumoftwo1312 · 17/03/2024 04:36

Surely it's just that we're (mostly) mums of a certain age bracket, we've all got similar issues and problems that crop up? It sounds formulaic because it is. New baby questions, bickering with dh/ILs, questions about school, housekeeping etc. With some suspected affairs and rows with neighbours over parking.

It's repetitive because we mostly all have similar lives.

Untethered · 17/03/2024 05:27

No, it’a not happening OP and the reason I know this is because people who post threads saying this is happening NEVER have a single example to link to.

Tourmalines · 17/03/2024 05:30

Yes, it’ happens . Not sure how or why though .

Justleaveitblankthen · 17/03/2024 05:34

Yes! I have seen this.
Infact I see it every few days and always check the date of the thread as I'm so familiar with it.
The fact the thread was only started a few hours before is puzzling.

It happened a lot around Xmas time I notice, but still happens regularly now.

I don't think that's a conspiracy theory at all. Trending barely moves these days.

Justleaveitblankthen · 17/03/2024 05:36

@untethered
I use the App only.
It's trickier to find then post links.
I wouldn't have a clue.

This, how come no one can give an example, even a description of what the thread was about so that people could check

There is loads of repititiion of questions or situations but a word for word same thread would be easily proved by a simple seach

Once you've been on MN for a while, it gets very samey. That's all it is - the same things crop up over and over again. I respond to far fewer threads than I did in my early MN years.

Which thread was it?

I'm not the OP but I can't remember the exact instances it has happened (will have a think). I usually post on the thread "have you posted about this before?". Obviously the same subjects are going to crop up again and again on MN, but sometimes particular details crop up that sound familiar.

ClassicalChip · 17/03/2024 07:44

Any examples of what these repeat threads are?

Or is this thread itself just at attempt to bring more traffic? 🕵

I was also thinking I've read this thread recently Grin

I've noticed it too. I think it's a mix of different people with the same problems, the same OPs coming back as they struggle to move the problem on IRL, trolls reposting their own threads/others old threads and possibly yes a bit of MN at work.
