How many hours a week is your heating on?

ChoccieEgg49 · 14/03/2024 18:27

We are averaging 23-33 hours per week going by my app from Nov-Mar, which equates to approx 4 hours a day give or take.

Is this average? Excessive? I've no idea. Our bills are still ridiculous though. I try to use the log burner as often as possible.

Obviously everyone's situation/home size/insulation levels are different, I understand that, but it just got me wondering.

how many hours a week is your heating on for?

Around 50 hours per week. Although it’s getting milder now so may not have it on so much going forward

Kalevala · 14/03/2024 18:32

Does the app show the time the heating is actually running, or when it's timed to be on if necessary according to the temperature set?

Ours is now off at the timer and I put it on for an hour in the evening if I'm cold and an hour in the morning on days one of us is home. So 7 to 11 hours a week, but it's not actually running a full hour at a time as it switches off when it reaches temperature.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 14/03/2024 18:32

Hasn't been on since January. It just hasn't been nearly cold enough.

Dacadactyl · 14/03/2024 18:33

50 hours a week approx

GalileoHumpkins · 14/03/2024 18:33

None, it hasn't been on at all this year!

Gottoloveatakeaway · 14/03/2024 18:33

Ours is on around 40 hours a week. It will automatically reduce as temperature rises.

ancienticecream · 14/03/2024 18:34

Ours has probably been on about 50hrs per week, too. We both WFH.

TheGhostOfKatesProlapse · 14/03/2024 18:34

4hrs a day so 28hrs total.

Evaka · 14/03/2024 18:35

Maybe 5 hours average a week since mid Feb.

NoWordForFluffy · 14/03/2024 18:36

I don't know when it's on or off, as the zones are set to a temperature depending on time of day / night and if it's colder than that, the heating comes on. The ground and middle floor are 17° in the morning (from 6.30), 18.5° from 12-8.30, then 15° the rest of the time. The top floor has the same timings but is 18°/17°/15°.

Our gas bill was just over £70 from 8 Feb to 7 March.

Kalevala · 14/03/2024 18:36

Sorry, I didn't notice it was Nov to Mar. Until this month the timer was on two and a half hours in the evening, and I put it on for an hour in the morning 4 days a week. So about 21 hours but only as required by the thermostat out of that time.

Janecat23 · 14/03/2024 18:36

About 55 hrs a week but we set it to 17.5 degrees and only turn it up if we get a bit chilled. Possibly counter productive however as I then go and have a hot shower to warm up!

Kalevala · 14/03/2024 18:41

Our gas bill from Nov to Feb, added together total £200 if that helps.

GirlOverboard123 · 14/03/2024 18:47

Not at all for the last six weeks or so (well I’ve perhaps put it on once or twice for a short time, but that’s all).

Before that maybe an hour in the evening. Not at all on milder days. Or two or three hours a day on the coldest days.

If I win a million on the premium bonds I’m going to have my heating on for 50 hours a week like some people on here. But I just manage by having a heated throw wrapped around me or using a portable heater to warm up the room I’m in.

TheChosenTwo · 14/03/2024 18:52

No idea, it’s programmed so that it will Click itself on and off in each room between 6:30am and 11pm if it drops below a certain temperature. I don’t know how many hours.
It definitely feels like it’s been a much milder winter this year overall but we do have a very well insulated house.

Waterlogged · 14/03/2024 18:56

14h /week

HighCortisolIsMyName · 14/03/2024 18:57

Mine is on 24/7. Costs around £8 a day

Rosesanddaisies1 · 14/03/2024 18:58

No idea, but we rarely put it above 16 degrees. Do consider the health risks of a wood burner, and the impact on the environment

CranfordScones · 14/03/2024 19:00

None. Didn't put it on the entire winter.

ComtesseDeSpair · 14/03/2024 19:00

Not since January. But we’re in balmy London rather than Inverness and are pretty warm blooded. Excessive would be if you were heating the house whilst walking about in a tshirt. If you’re keeping comfortable then that’s the right level.

DinnaeFashYersel · 14/03/2024 19:00

It's on from 7am till 10pm every day. With a one hour boost during the night.

It's 6C here so need the heating on.

mitogoshi · 14/03/2024 19:01

20 currently though turns it's self off if warm which has happened the last two days

Hoppitybobbins · 14/03/2024 19:02

14 hours per week in south.

MillshakePickle · 14/03/2024 19:09

It's set at 18c. It's never off. Kicks in when it needs to and we leave it alone. Normally we wouldn't do this but have a baby under 1 atm.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 14/03/2024 19:12

It's on about 60 hours a week, but the thermostat is only set to 18. We live in the damp, chilly far NW of England.
