How many hours a week is your heating on?

ChoccieEgg49 · 14/03/2024 18:27

We are averaging 23-33 hours per week going by my app from Nov-Mar, which equates to approx 4 hours a day give or take.

Is this average? Excessive? I've no idea. Our bills are still ridiculous though. I try to use the log burner as often as possible.

Obviously everyone's situation/home size/insulation levels are different, I understand that, but it just got me wondering.

how many hours a week is your heating on for?

About 2hrs a day
NW

HungryBeagle · 14/03/2024 19:20

Ours is on, set to 18 degrees, all the time (10 overnight). I don’t know how many hours it’s actually heating the house though.

saoirse31 · 14/03/2024 19:22

Zero

Chickpea17 · 14/03/2024 19:23

thermostat is set to 19 and we have underfloor heating open plan new build with lots of glass windows and doors and it's very big and it on 13 hours a day in the winter. Come next month though the heating won't come on the glass really draws the heating into the house. With underfloor heating it's not something you can only turn on for a few hours it's cheaper to keep it on constant

Nimbus1999 · 14/03/2024 19:24

During Dec-Feb approx 2-3 hours per day. Now 1-2.

UseItOrloseItt · 14/03/2024 19:25

I'd say 3.5ish hours a day so about 24-25 hours.

ScarlettSunset · 14/03/2024 19:25

Mine is on probably about 45 hours a week. Or at least set to be on. It's on a thermostat so just turns off once it's reached the right temperature

Katelynn88 · 14/03/2024 19:27

About 10 to 15. A couple of days a week I won't have it on at all. And the days I do have it on, it's only for about an hour or 2.

Creatureofhabit87 · 14/03/2024 19:28

About 3 hours a day when I get home from work around 4 but that’s to dry washing as it isn’t actually that cold in South east.

fridaynightdinner12346 · 14/03/2024 19:29

Less than 1 hour a week. It's not that cold, we add a layer or a blanket of cold.

UpsideLeft · 14/03/2024 19:29

No idea actually

We have a thermostat set to 18 during the day and 19 in the morning

Our boiler broke down recently for a few days and the temp plummeted and we were uncomfortably cold at 14

We had one fan heater we used to heat room by room but it wasn't ideal obvs

I will forever appreciate having central heating and 18 is enough to heat the whole house and keep it that way

I could feel my house rotting away around me from being too cold iykwim

UpsideLeft · 14/03/2024 19:30

At 10pm it's set to 7 degrees then 19 at 5.30 am

Taylormiffed · 14/03/2024 19:31

It's currently set to 19° and on 24/7. Although obviously it only kicks in when it needs to. We're in Hampshire. Small 3 bed house.

AuntieMarys · 14/03/2024 19:31

About 3 hours a day

Cheesyfootballs01 · 14/03/2024 19:31

It’s on in the living areas 24/7 and for a few hours each evening in the bedroom.

DGPP · 14/03/2024 19:32

6 hours a day at 20C

Vettrianofan · 14/03/2024 19:32

On constant every day. 23C.

Misthios · 14/03/2024 19:32

Here we go with the competitive underheating. 4 hours a day, not since January... have we had "we're ROASTING and it's 12c in the house, any more and i'm melting"?

In Glasgow it was 5c today. That is cold. The heating is on.

RaraRachael · 14/03/2024 19:34

I tried not putting mine on till later in the day but I was utterly miserable with being so cold. I tend to put it on for a couple of hours in the morning and then again later on if I feel I need it,
I'm in NE Scotland and it's simply too cold sometimes to not have it on, even though it costs a lot,

ohtowinthelottery · 14/03/2024 19:35

2hrs every morning and 6hrs every evening - so 56hrs in total per week.

WingsofRain · 14/03/2024 19:37

None, our house is unheated. If we need extra warmth we use a heated throw.

LondonBagpuss · 14/03/2024 19:39

About 2 hours three times a week atm, just to speed up drying washing and take the chill off my flat. I'm out at work quite a lot, though. I treated myself to having the heating on a lot over Xmas/early Jan and it cost me about £150 extra so I'm quite wary now!!!!

GetWhatYouWant · 14/03/2024 19:39

It's timed to be on for 105 hours a week, but set at temperatures between 17 and 19. Gas heating and hob, total fuel DD has now gone down to 140 per month, but have a few hundred in credit and just had email from octopus to say fuel charges are going down from april, so I expect my DD will further reduce by 20 or 30 a month.

Wineisgreat · 14/03/2024 19:40

Not at all! It's been really mild. Mind you, our house is really warm.

Meadowfinch · 14/03/2024 19:41

One hour in the morning and 3 hours in the evening. 4 x 7 =28 hours. Same as you OP.
