I am not voting for Labour or Con…

What party can I vote for that may have a chance? I do not want to waste a vote but may have to. As a young(ish) Black woman, none of the above present me. I was born here as were my parents. Originally from East Africa. Spent a lot of holidays there as a child but not so much as an adult, otherwise I would seriously think of going back to live there.

I have always voted Labour but they are disappointing. For the first time, I am thinking of not voting but it does not sit right within me.

I might try the Green Party I guess.

I'm genuinely curious - what makes you think they're worth another shot? Or, more pertinently, what do you think they can achieve with another term that they haven't had the chance to do with the last four terms and five PMs?

I really don't want Labour back in. It's one or the other.

Even Owen Jones telling everyone not to vote Labour now. Starmer is a fraud and lied through his teeth to the membership to get the leadership.

Jason118 · 21/03/2024 16:28

I've found 'but Corbyn' and I claim my £5

Yup. Excellent reason for doing so in my book.

None - don't throw your vote away. If you want this current detestable government out, vote Labour, no one else has even the slightest chance. I deal with politicians in my line of work and Labour are just currently playing the game to win - once they get in, they will be able to be more 'Labour' - at the moment they're trying to win over Tory voters. Voting Reform is the only other way the Tories are likely to lose votes, but by the sounds of it they won't represent you either.

yep, which is exactly why I'm
not voting Labour!

Wow. I am surprised. Or, maybe I’m not. He has a history of changing his mind. He did used to support Brexit, in a Lexit way (which Tony Benn and Corbyn also did). He changed his mind about that.
Hes talked about Privatisation and Palestine but not biological women’s rights. He still agrees they should be taken away then.
Hmm

This article is last year, wow I’m out of date ref Owen.

No, at least Bernie isn’t an antisemite

Notonthestairs · 21/03/2024 17:20

Good grief, Jones feeling sorry for himself and moaning about Labour is hardly news. He's not Bernie Sanders, he's just a twat.

I don’t follow this person, I have heard of him on here but that’s about it.

Does he say who he wants the people who follow him to vote for?

If you’re not on Twitter you don’t really see this stuff

Depends who you ask. The Washington Examiner called Sander's campaign "the most antisemitic in decades"

It's almost like term is bandied about, without any compelling evidence, simply to discredit someone you disagree with.

Sillypede · 21/03/2024 18:05

Itscatsallthewaydown · 21/03/2024 17:45

Yeah, sure.

The strength of your argument & the evidence you've pointed to as a means to illustrate your position on this thread have convinced me of my errors.

Who could possibly hold a contrary opinion in the face of such solid reasoning?

Apologism for antisemitism? That’s a disgusting thing to accuse someone of. You ought to be a lot more careful- playing fast and loose with the word antisemitism as if you can apply it to anyone you want to discredit because you disagree with them politically is a dangerous and vile thing to do

News to me. Although I don’t read the guardian (other than Apple News or specifically recommended articles) and I’m not on Twitter so I can see why I hadn’t heard about it. Can’t bear the little gremlin.

I meant Bernie Sanders in a he’s splitting the vote way. Sanders was probably responsible for Trump, he split the Democrat vote. Though Jones isn’t a candidate obviously, he may sway voters away from Labour.

You didn't answer the question, though. What do you think the Tories can achieve with a fifth term that they didn't have time to do in the first four?

You could have just said you’re racist and not bothered typing all that out.

Vote for Reform! Love splitting the Tory votes

Don’t be boringly predictable. People have genuine concerns about immigration, but you’re using the classic argument of accusing people of racism. It’s not racism to not want uncontrolled immigration. It’s the same old, same old argument to close down opinion.
