I am not voting for Labour or Con…

What party can I vote for that may have a chance? I do not want to waste a vote but may have to. As a young(ish) Black woman, none of the above present me. I was born here as were my parents. Originally from East Africa. Spent a lot of holidays there as a child but not so much as an adult, otherwise I would seriously think of going back to live there.

I have always voted Labour but they are disappointing. For the first time, I am thinking of not voting but it does not sit right within me.

I might try the Green Party I guess.

That’s your credibility gone - I don’t believe a word about Labour voters turning to Reform now. Talking of knuckledraggers, even three party Lee wasn’t as extreme as that - he went via the Tories.

I'm not a Tory supporter. Over the years I've voted for the party who i think represents what i want at the time. I've voted for both Labour and tory. I'm not a dimwit who votes for the same party my entire life just because my parents and their parents voted for them. But whilst I wont be voting tory this time (i did at the last GE), I also won't be voting Labour. Its bad for politics that these are really the only two real choices we have, which is why i think its good for party's like Reform to enter the mix.

excessivescreentime · 15/03/2024 23:13

@WalkingaroundJardine interesting! Sounds like a good system, assuming you can get out of it if you have a good excuse. Presumably they don't actually enforce it much, but having the rule there makes a cultural expectation that everyone votes. Which is a good thing.

Chocolatefrenzy · 15/03/2024 23:19

Reform.....all the way

But Reform is just UKIP repackaged. There's always been a party like that in British politics - different name, same shite.

ThisQuickFinch · 16/03/2024 01:46

Honesty I’m pretty happy to see Reform polling as it is (in line with UKIP’s best ever performance at a GE).

Realistically, they’d be doing well to win 1 or 2 seats, but they could cost the Tories several.

Indeed. A Tory MP said a few weeks ago that a vote for Reform is a vote for Labour. It was one of the few occasions when they’ve been right.

Redrosetat · 16/03/2024 16:43

I agree. Reform are as great for the Labour Party as Bernie Sanders was for Donald Trump. Or to put it another way, Reform are as bad for the Tory Party as Jeremy Corbyn and Ed Milliband were for the Labour Party.

I'm like many, have no clue who to vote for. Our local MP is Conservative has been in post since 1997 and the area I live in has a huge Conservative majority. There is no way this will be overturned.

However, this MP, does, as far as I'm concerned, nothing for the local community. Has no social media accounts and doesn't, I believe, even have email. If you want to contact him you have to send a good old fashioned letter.

It drives me mad that he will once again be our consituencies voice in Parliament.

So, I'm stuck, I will not vote Conservative as I have in the past, I don't want to vote Labour, but feel that any other vote will be wasted, but equally, wouldn't want to not vote as who knows there maybe many like me in my consitituency who feel the same and the change has to start somewhere.

I'm edging towards Reform but it depends if anyone will stand for that party where I am.

The whole lot right now is a total shit show.

I vote green. Dh votes labour.

Redrosetat · 16/03/2024 18:11

Greens were the worst. They did absolutely nothing. Totally incompetent. Waste of time.

Unless you're in Brighton, a vote for Green is a vote for the Tories in the same way that voting Reform helps Labour.

In most election years, it wouldn't matter so much. This year, though, is something of a special case because the country's on the verge of collapse.

I think they'll do well in the upcoming Council Elections. Which could translate into more than a couple of MPs in the GE later this year.

It never did with UKIP. We had an entire UKIP town council near here at one point with a couple of district councillors. They never managed to get a parliamentary seat without Tory defections.

Here is a 6 step plan from Reform on how to stop the boats.

Can any of their voters explain what they mean by 'believers'?

Waste of time in Brighton now too. They were atrocious and now they’ve gone. Left the city in a mess.

WTF are Believers?

If that’s true then it’s actually fascistic

None - don't throw your vote away. If you want this current detestable government out, vote Labour, no one else has even the slightest chance. I deal with politicians in my line of work and Labour are just currently playing the game to win - once they get in, they will be able to be more 'Labour' - at the moment they're trying to win over Tory voters. Voting Reform is the only other way the Tories are likely to lose votes, but by the sounds of it they won't represent you either.

Why don't they come out and show who they are then so the electorate know who they are voting for.

Op i feel politically homeless too.

Well, they’ve revealed themselves to be what a lot of us have suspected them to be all along. Far right authoritarians.

BIossomtoes · 20/03/2024 13:24

Having read their “manifesto” their relationship with economic reality is tenuous to say the least. It’s money splashed around all over the place. I don’t know who they think is going to pay for it.

Sillypede · 20/03/2024 13:41

The Labour Party have spent their time trying to court Tory voters & xenophobic red wall voters. They seem pretty confident they can win comfortably without the support of the soft left, hence their adoption of Tory economic orthodoxy & their posturing on immigration & welfare.

If they wanted my vote, they'd have offered something attractive to vote for.
