Who folds up your sofa throws at the end of the night?

We have invested in 2 gorgeous velvet sofas from Loaf. They look gorgeous when the cushions are plumped and the throw blankets are folded.

I often go up first and ask DH and kids to tidy away blankets and arrange throw cushions (2 on each sofa) before coming up. 9/10 they don’t which just makes the room look crap. So it falls to me every morning. Tbh I’m the only one that cares.

What happens in your house?

No one but me cares. I went back to work full time two years ago and the last time the sofas didn't look shit was two years ago. The cleaner folds the throws once a week.

We have loaf leather sofas. I hate them. I'm looking forward to my children leaving home, the dogs getting too elderly to get on the sofas and being able to buy some new decent sofas!!!

Me, me, me and only ever me.

See also - opening or closing ANY CURTAINS OR BLINDS IN THE WHOLE HOUSE. How do they think the light gets in or the room is made private at night??? It must be curtain fairies!!!

Freakinfraser · 13/03/2024 11:43

My husband opens the blinds in the living room on the odd occasion he’s up first. Otherwise he makes the bed and opens the bedroom ones as he’s last up.

he would not consider folding a throw and plumping cushions. That’s me.

i think when you get to the stage you class a 20 second task that’s only done as you personally wish it, as a job, then it’s clear something else is going on , but better to address that, than focus on something so small and petty.

TheBirdintheCave · 13/03/2024 11:46

My husband and I do it together. We call it 'shutting down the living room' which basically just means resetting it for the next day. We plump the cushions, fold the blankets, tidy away our son's toys and make sure the dining table is swept and clear.

Opol · 13/03/2024 11:49

We have big dogs that are allowed on them (obviously not straight after a muddy walk). So I’m not exactly precious with them.

DD2 folds up sofa blankets after she's used them... DD1 and DH = work in progress.

I don't generally worry too much as the dog quite often makes herself a little blankety nest pulling them all off the back of the sofa during the day when she's sitting there.

Hoppinggreen · 13/03/2024 11:52

We only have 1 and its on my end of the sofa, nobody else uses it. I dont spend a lot of time sitting in one place so it gets used around once a week or so.
I fold it and put it over the back of the chair first thing in the morning as I do a little lounge tidy when I first come down and open the curtains etc

Shoxfordian · 13/03/2024 11:54

Are all of your me only jobs things that only matter to you?
We have a blanket and just chuck it back on the sofa- only looks tidy if we have guests or the cleaners been

CactusMactus · 13/03/2024 12:11

Our sofa is like a giant nest!

Blankets, pillows, random socks all chucked together. It's like this all week and on Saturday I take it all apart, hoover out the popcorn and put it back together...

SoggyDoggyWalks · 13/03/2024 12:16

The dog sleeps on the sofa and digs the cushions and blankets up to make a nest if he gets cold. Most days I don’t bother tidying it till I get home for the day. If I’m at home through the day I tidy it several times, each time getting sad eyes from the dog. Whole lot gets washed fortnightly. 9 yr old DD will straighten the cushions as best she can, often without being asked.

PlumbersWifey · 13/03/2024 12:17

I do fold ours otherwise the cat gets fur all over it rather than just 1 square of it

Charleymouse · 13/03/2024 12:18

MIL used to do it when she went to bed.

If me and now DH wanted to stay up later then her we couldn't sit on the sofa after everything had been plumped and folded.

We regularly sat in the floor in the living room.

Batshit now i think about it but would solve your problem.

DamnSpots · 13/03/2024 12:18

DH does it most days because he cares whether they're folded and I don't. Or our cleaner once a week. Only time I might fold them is if we've got people coming round and I'll do it as part of a general 'tidy'.

ZiriForGood · 13/03/2024 12:19

I don't consider position of blankets and pillows to be a part of basic tidying up.

I don't consider reasonable to have seating with moving parts and being annoyed that they are being moved.

dcsp · 13/03/2024 12:20

I'm guessing you're the person who wanted these throws in the first place and who cares about them being folded?

If so, folding them is your responsibility.

propropro · 13/03/2024 12:23

who honestly has time for this?

Chatonette · 13/03/2024 12:26

We each fold our own throws. Nobody plumps any of the cushions (but I don’t have a squidgy sofa, so it looks ok). Sometimes my children ‘forget’ and I usually don’t do it for them.

Strugglingtodomybest · 13/03/2024 12:28

I don't even understand the concept of folding your throws up each night if you're going to use them again the next day. What's the point?

So obviously, my answer is: no-one.

LoobyDop · 13/03/2024 12:31

I’m generally quite a tidy person- everything gets put away when finished with- but folding throws is not something I have time to care about.

Previousreligion · 13/03/2024 12:35

Whoever was using it. I'd say it's pretty even between DH and me.

What in the name of the wee man are sofa lines? Is this another job I didn't know needed doing?

Elphamouche · 13/03/2024 12:57

People fold them nightly?! Nope we leave ours on the sofa and fold them if people are coming over 😂
