To ask how much you spend on your hair a year

I mean hair cuts, colour, styling and special products. Over and above normal shampoo.
Just read on a thread where prices were mentioned casually and I am amazed at the costs.
I get my hair cut maybe three times a year. Spend less than £150 in total. My hair could look significantly better if I spent more I'm sure, and if you can afford it then no reason not to spend more.
Just wondering what is normal.

DH buzzes me with the clippers every 6 weeks or so, so nothing there. I like Lee Stafford hair putty which is about a fiver every couple of months but that's it

BoobyDazzler · 13/03/2024 13:57

Possibly £3-400 for 3x baylage and cut, although I’m considering going back to my natural dark brown.

whatkatydid2014 · 13/03/2024 13:59

Very little. It’s been cut 3 times in past 7 years. I never dye, blow dry or straighten it

goingdownfighting · 13/03/2024 14:02

£250 a year at the hairdressers for cuts and colour

200 a year for all products

20 a year for hair accessories.

So about £500 all in.

I do want some wide plated straighteners tho but I've just put my personal budget in for the year and I'll have to keep on using my old ghds.

I'm in Lancashire! I use Hairking Callum in Urmston

@shadyboots2024 ohhhhhh thank you so
much!

Just gone down a rabbit hole with his Instagram. :) I’m up in Colne so it’s not far away. :) off to sign up for everything and save some pennies for the full
monty.

If he has a referral scheme do PM me your name to give them.

SheepAndSword · 13/03/2024 14:13

£60 max. So that's 4 bottles of shampoo and the occasional treatment product.

shadyboots2024 · 13/03/2024 14:16

@TheCatterall the other one you have is Laura at the hair lounge in Colne

Chunkycookie · 13/03/2024 14:24

£16 on two trims a year (hairdresser on my road charges £8 for a dry cut).

£5 every 2 months on whatever brown hair dye is on sale on Amazon.

We buy the cheapest crap shampoo and conditioner that Aldi do. I don’t use any products.

I really wish I had more money. nice hair has always been a hope of mine.

I spend less in a year than an actual decent hair cut would cost.

MessyNeate · 13/03/2024 14:25

About 450-600 depending on how my appointments fit in the year. Litre more this year as I'll have an extra two for events

therealcookiemonster · 13/03/2024 14:25

trim my hair at home when I can be bothered

tbf it's pure laziness

I used to go for a cut and blow-dry once every 2-3 months for about £50 but I just can't be bothered

I've never had my hair dyed except with henna which is more of a hair treatment as it really helps with hair health

I have had chemotherapy so my hair has really reduced in volume and it's very fragile. so I do invest in some decent shampoos and products. not sure if it has any effect though lol

Aposterhasnoname · 13/03/2024 14:27

About £80 every six weeks, plus a specialist shampoo and conditioner which costs about £30 a time, but lasts for ages.

shearwater2 · 13/03/2024 14:28

£350 a year - £70 for cut and blow dry about 5x a year, that's it.

Barbarachicken · 13/03/2024 14:31

Approx £500. Cut & colour every 10 weeks. Barely anything on products.

notquiteruralbliss · 13/03/2024 14:32

About £80. Thats 2 haircuts.

Thanks @shadyboots2024 I have looked at them and a few others locally but see nothing on socials showing me their expertise etc and I’d rather go for someone showing that they live and breath curls - I know some folks have gone on a one day course and can claim they have the skills now but I want to treat myself to a full on curl expert at least once - 50 this year and it will be my treat to myself. :)

Will check them out though and pop in and ask a few questions. :)

LisaD1 · 13/03/2024 15:42

I used to box dye my hair and cut my own fringe. It had zero condition to it. I then took a new job that paid a lot more and I wfh permanently. I now go every 6 weeks, cost around £700 a year. I use supermarket own brand shampoo and treseme conditioner so no fancy products.

shadyboots2024 · 13/03/2024 15:43

@TheCatterall oh definitely go to Callum then! He's really lovely too, it's so refreshing not to come out hating my hair and actually enjoy the experience

LemonySnickets · 13/03/2024 15:45

I've had my hair cut twice in 10 months at £25 a time. I dye it myself every 4 weeks at a cost of £6 a time. So less than £130 a year.

Ibuamnti · 13/03/2024 15:49

About £120. I Get a wet cut 4 or 5 times a year (i have a short pixie bob) and packet dyes when it's on special offer. Usually i buy 3 or 4 at a time. Very boring. Must try harder 🤣

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 13/03/2024 15:50

£50 for a cut and blow dry every 2 months and I dye it myself every 2/3 months so probably around £380 ish

Funkyslippers · 13/03/2024 15:52

I pay £60 for cut & colour around 5 times a year which I think is a bargain

Beansandneedles · 13/03/2024 15:52

My step-dad is a hairdresser. We don't live near him, but mostly we manage to orchestrate things so that he cuts all our hair once or twice a year. Very lucky indeed to have him in the family, I have paid for maybe one or two haircuts in the last 7 years. He also does my husband and kids hair most of the time. We might pay for one top up cut per boy head per year, so talking around £30 cost to the household annually.

Product wise, I bought some only curls stuff about 2 years ago, would like more but given how often I tend to do anything to my hair it feels like a wasted investment.

So ...I'm gonna say between our family of 4 we spend about £50 a year on hair tops?

Isseywith3witchycats · 13/03/2024 15:52

£0.00 i have my hair long and if it needs a trim my hairdresser daughter does it for me and i dont dye it as its strawberry blonde naturally

EmilyTjP · 13/03/2024 15:53

These threads always surprise me as most mumsnetters say they’re in six figure salary jobs… yet most seem to cut their own hair!

Isseywith3witchycats · 13/03/2024 15:54

i use bar shampoo which probably costs around £20 a year they last ages
