To ask how much you spend on your hair a year

I mean hair cuts, colour, styling and special products. Over and above normal shampoo.
Just read on a thread where prices were mentioned casually and I am amazed at the costs.
I get my hair cut maybe three times a year. Spend less than £150 in total. My hair could look significantly better if I spent more I'm sure, and if you can afford it then no reason not to spend more.
Just wondering what is normal.

Nothing, really.

I cut my own hair (or occasionally my SIL does it for free in exchange for me walking her dog).
My straighteners were a gift and I've had the same hairdryer for as long as I can remember - it was a hand me down from my mum.

BashfulClam · 13/03/2024 08:13

About £60. I get it cut twice a year at most and colour it myself. I hate getting my hair done.

Picklestop · 13/03/2024 08:13

I spend about £1300 per year. Based on going about every seven weeks and costing about £170 each time, cut and colour. My hair always looks nice (I think).

IggOrEgg · 13/03/2024 08:14

Well, when I go to the hairdresser, it costs around £150 for a balayage, cut and style but I go so rarely, it probably works out around £75 a year 😂

Wakeywake · 13/03/2024 08:15

About £500.

muddyford · 13/03/2024 08:15

I get my hair cut every six weeks, so nine times a year roughly. £20 a time so £180 a year.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 13/03/2024 08:15

About £1500 I have my hair done about every 8 weeks and have extensions

colderandeatsmincepiesalot · 13/03/2024 08:15

About £500 a year! That’s cut and coloured but my hairdresser is a very good friend 😜

DappledThings · 13/03/2024 08:15

About £40. I try to go more than twice a year but never really get round to it. Dry cut in our village hairdressers is about £20.

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 13/03/2024 08:16

Nothing! My sister cuts my hair once a year for free. I had a fringe cut in last time and a woman at work kindly trims it for me once a month. I don’t colour my hair or use any products except for cheap shampoo and sometimes conditioner.

SuzieSaturday · 13/03/2024 08:16

About £350
Cut and Highlights 4 times a year then 2 or 3 additional appointments for cut only

IDontLikePinaColadas · 13/03/2024 08:16

About £1,000.00 per year on cut and colour.

ithinkitsdone · 13/03/2024 08:18

£800 per year, 4 trips to hairdresser.

SpringOfContentment · 13/03/2024 08:18

I do very similar to you, potas, but am fully aware I do significantly less to my hair than most, and I would expect most people go more often, and a significant proportion have more one than just a cut. I'm definitely in the minority not dying my hair - be that at home or in the salon.

GreyRooted · 13/03/2024 08:18

Before I stopped dyeing it, it was about £35 every 3/4 weeks, so about £500. Now I don’t dye it, it’s £25 every 6/8 weeks for a cut and blow dry.

IrritableVowel · 13/03/2024 08:20

Probably about £1k on highlights, colour and cut/styling. I keep it pretty short so get it trimmed frequently enough. I also get it blow dried if we are going to something like a wedding, so usually a few times a year for that too.

burnoutbabe · 13/03/2024 08:22

I go to a local training salon so it's £15 per visit which means I go every 2-3 months, much more often than I did when I went to an expensive one (£70 or so).

Then £10 box dye every few months to keep greys away.

So £100 per year.

ZenNudist · 13/03/2024 08:22

About £500 a year. Every 8 weeks cut and colour by a home hairdresser.

Watchkeys · 13/03/2024 08:24

Nothing. Try learning to do it well, yourself. Hairdressers aren't rocket scientists. Anybody can learn how to do it. You can buy 3 way mirrors and there are plenty of free videos online to teach you. If you want to save money, you're a mug if you're paying for someone else to sort your hair out.

KThnxBye · 13/03/2024 08:25

Nothing. I wash it, I cut it occasionally, I sometimes curl or straighten it and a know lots of nice up dos for work. But I don’t spend any money on it beyond shampoo and conditioner. I grew up doing it this was and never really got the idea of hairdressers etc. Occasionally I ask my kids if they want to try a hairdresser for the experience but they always decline and ask me to do it.

squashedalmondcroissant · 13/03/2024 08:25

Last time I got my hair cut was 2019 - I had a drastic change from waist length hair to just below collar bone as it wasn't in good condition and needed to go.

Now it's back to waist length and in good condition so I don't do much to it, maybe spend £15 on a couple boxes of semi permanent colour once every few months. I cut my hair myself now as it's just too expensive, especially with long hair 😂

Fridgefreezermagnets · 13/03/2024 08:28

Have a trim every 6 weeks. For a home hair cut £63 a year.

shadyboots2024 · 13/03/2024 08:30

Cut every 9 months £95
Products maybe work out about £10pm

User19792 · 13/03/2024 08:31

£1K but I spend almost nothing on clothes and don't use a handbag, only wear trainers etc, no make up. My hair is just my thing.

I use a curl specialist. Normal hairdressers can't cut my hair so I've no hope of doing it myself!
I do dust the ends off between appointments but it needs cutting so infrequently it's not really an issue
