To think Center Parcs should be ashamed of this

I think it may have been deleted now, but not before Center Parcs hid or deleted comments pointing out the stereotyping and misogyny of this Facebook post...
One comment I saw said mum's not keeping up because of all the shopping, cooking, washing and organising she had to before the family got to sodding Center Parcs in the first place. And she's riding a shite bike they've given her

Mum is saying, Isn’t this fun, you go ahead girls, I’m saving myself for later. I’ve still got Yoga and swimming to fit in and all your suppers to prepare. And I’ve packed an extra bottle of wine and hopefully mummy and daddy will be doing some additional holiday activities once you are both in bed (if SBH hasn’t fallen asleep on the sofa after an hour’s active parenting).

Kind of sums up centerparcs. Naff, low brow, eye wateringly expensive and mediocre. There are more exciting adventures to be had.

So true. That’s why the little girls are cycling furiously to Portsmouth to get on a ferry to Normandy for a fun time in European camps and a tour around the cathedrals. They’re just worried that mum won’t make it for their exciting, cost-effective and MN approved continental break.

hulahooper2 · 12/03/2024 22:36

Honestly I wouldn’t t give a 2nd thought to this , there are too many snowflakes nowadays ready to be offended at everything

DrJoanAllenby · 12/03/2024 22:42

I can't stand the terminally offended.

All I see is a family on holiday or a day out and the children are proficient at bike riding and have whizzed ahead and mum who perhaps doesn't usually ride a bike is doing her best to keep up with them!

The dad is finding it a bit easier to keep up with the kids as he rides a bike to work or for pleasure.

Absolutely nothing to get offended about.

Frankly I’m more offended by the stereotypes in the comment that women do all the shopping cooking and washing. Very 20th century thinking!

Center parcs should be ashamed? 😂behave!!!

Ahhhh I still miss the Yorkies advertising line of ‘not for girls’ - snowflakes everywhere though ❄

Not the same. The Yorkie ads were brilliant cos they were a joke

Knitgoodwoman · 12/03/2024 22:47

I’m not offended, but it’s a shit advert. I’m pretty sporty and love mountain biking and I just find this old fashioned and it misses the mark.

TheTimeIsNowMaybeNow · 12/03/2024 22:49

I don't know how some people get through the day

Yasai · 12/03/2024 22:50

YABU for posting a photo which reminded me that I once spent a hellish 72 hours at Center Parcs. I’d rather die than return.

TheSnakeCharmer · 12/03/2024 22:50

Wow. I am really taken aback by the comments on here. I'm certainly not some easily offended millennial, but think that it's a really rubbish advert. On the one hand it could just naively be aimed at the mother because she happens to be last in the photo and could therefore be taken on face value.
But it could also certainly be taken to depict the mother as being the slowest and least fit at the back. And given that mother's often fail to have the time for self care and end up less fit after having children, then some women could find it offensive that the mother is seemingly being ridiculed for it. Other women who are fit and strong, might disagree with the stereo typing of the mother being the unfit one. My point is that women, according to their experiences, women may have differing reactions to it and Centreparcs risk alienating some women by it. There are just so many better ways to advertise without getting the backs up of some. Personally I find it condescending.

Ditto. Totally misses the mark. Mind you I’d probably feel the same way if it was Dad at the back and ‘keep up, Dad’. I’m not really keen on any ads that portray either parent to be a bit of a bumbling idiot.

Mielbee · 12/03/2024 22:53

Definitely doesn't make me want to go to Centre Parcs!

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 12/03/2024 22:54

Interesting take on it.

Edit: The spell casting, I meant.

Okthen100 · 12/03/2024 22:56

Just came back on and can't believe how many people clicked like on my post! Glad to see lots of people think this type of thing is batshit too

Marchitectmummy · 12/03/2024 22:58

If you choose you can find a way to be permanently offended, or get on with your life and understand most things aren't offensive.

You have chosen the former, try the later. Life will feel so much better.

Tahinii · 12/03/2024 23:00

To be honest, this makes more sense to me than some stuff I read on MN! 😁😁

TheSnakeCharmer · 12/03/2024 23:02

Absolutely nothing to get offended about.

Well, if your interpretation is correct and the Dad just happens to be fitter because he cycles to work (whilst his wife stays home and looks after the kids perhaps) and he also gets to enjoy leisure bike rides for fun on the weekends (presumably because his wife also stays in and looks after the kids some more), then it's all a bit wanky. Even more so for the mother to be slightly ridiculed for being slower.

Also, why condescend people who don't like this advert as being 'terminally offended' or 'snowflakes'. People have different life experiences. I think that the advert is really shit. I'm not massively offended by it, but it's a crass advert. I'm also no snowflake and no spring chicken who has struggled through life. You may find yourself offended by something else that might not bother me in the slightest. Just because someone doesn't like something, it doesn't mean that they should be denigrated and stuck in the 'terminally offended weak self-absorbed snowflake camp' for all perpetuity.

Okthen100 · 12/03/2024 23:03

So sorry about your quarrels, thoughts and prayers.

SneakySnakeEx · 12/03/2024 23:04

Nowt wrong at all with that

“Keep up mum, Dr Oyinbo’s casting a spell to ‘move’ dad to another woman. We need to get to the subtropical swimming paradise before the magic takes hold.”

Okthen100 · 12/03/2024 16:34

Are people just offended at EVERYTHING these days?

Exactly. The poster isn't at all offensive. Many of the posters here have obviously got a chip on their shoulders. Plus, I'm sure the usual trope will be trotted out about how it's all men's fault well, because they are men...

WhateverMate · 12/03/2024 23:09

Even if I tried my absolute hardest, I still couldn't find anything wrong with that ad 🤷‍♀️

Bbq1 · 12/03/2024 23:09

Those worried about "building up tge confidence of girls", I think it's safe to say the kid leading the family is in fact a girl.

I’m more offended it would cost us 5k for 3 nights self-catering for my family of 5 to go there over a weekend. Bonkers.

5k for 3 nights? 😳 We go to CP several times a year but have never paid that for 3 nights... are you looking at the treehouses or something? 😂
