VestibuleVirgin · 12/03/2024 07:15

Frank Hestor reportedly said: “It’s like trying not to be racist but you see Diane Abbott on the TV, and you’re just like… you just want to hate all black women because she’s there.
“And I don’t hate all black women at all, but I think she should be shot.
“(The executive) and Diane Abbott need to be shot.”

Abominable, disgusting. Aibu to be incecsed by this?
Money allows all sorts of behaviours apparently, particularly if you give a lot of it to a political party.

Tory donor Frank Hester apologises over 'reprehensible' comments about Diane Abbott

Frank Hester has admitted making ‘rude’ comments about the politician but said they had ‘nothing to do with her gender nor colour of skin’

Seems Hester has given a further £5 million - that's a total of £15 million!

That's surely a record for the UK?

In total its approx the same as the Tories spent on the 2019 GE campaign...

Easy to see why Sunak has denied the GE will be in early May....

.....Doubtless waiting for further "donations" from Hestor off the back of more Govt software contracts handed to TPP.

This is the real scandal, no one hands over this amount of money with nothing given back in return & on top of '000s handed over for the use of a private helicopter for Sunak.

People bang on about corruption in Putins Russian and his links to the Oligarchs who put him into power but what is so different here?

This public sector contract (NHS) netted Hesters TPP, a profit of £47m from just a £135m contract, Hester personally made £20m.

Where is the value for money for the taxpayer, as opposed to the vfm for the Tory party?

it stinks!

Makes me wonder whether the leak of Hester's comments was made to divert from the the real story.....

bombastix · 15/03/2024 07:48

Reckon they have spent it and then some given the state of their local parties.

Notonthestairs · 15/03/2024 08:08

The Conservatives recently raised that limit on what can be spent by political parties on a GE to £35 million.
Who knows maybe Hester has more cash to spend.

More evidence of corruption... £19m to £35m....all done in the last few years and way beyond what it should be in line with inflation.

With large donations like this, its the TOries that stand to gain from raising limits....

Attacking our Democracy indeed!

pointythings · 15/03/2024 08:53

And they have the brass nerve to go on about how awful it is that Labour gets donations from the unions...

Clavinova · 15/03/2024 09:31

Dale Vince should “reflect” on his “appalling” remarks about Hamas, deputy party leader Angela Rayner has said.

Mr Vince shared an opinion on Times Radio last year that “one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter” when asked about the Palestinian militant group that carried out the October 7 attacks on Israel.

The party are criticising him. Plus hardly in the same ballpark as Hester.

That the best you have?

I don't think it's one contract - it's the sum of many contracts - signed with individual GP practices/healthcare trusts etc... ?

TPP's contracts stretch back to the Labour Government;

Feb 2011
TPP was set up in 1998...
By 2006, more than 200 practices were using its software. Deployments have increased by more than five times since then...
Its prison system was selected as the national clinical IT system for prisons in 2009 and is now live in more than 95% of English prisons.

The IRA. Terrorists or freedom fighters?

I missed this yesterday - terrorists! They might be reformed terrorists now.

pointythings · 15/03/2024 10:00

Of course Hamas are terrorists. But if you were a Palestinian farmer whose land had been taken by settlers, you might feel differently. I fail to see why that is difficult to understand.

Everanewbie · 15/03/2024 10:03

If you were a Palestinian farmer who'd had land taken by settlors you'd be wrong to think mass rape, mass kidnap, mass murder, mass mutilation, genocide of an entire race and removal of a state is the answer to their ill treatment.

What is your point, Clav? Do you think Labour should return Dale's donation?

It would be hypocrisy from Labour if they don't - especially in view of Starmer's comments about Jeremy Corbyn I linked to last night.

Indeed, with £137m worth of contracts in just the last 4 years....

Donations of £15m to the Tory party.

Even you must find this rather odd?

Of course you would. I didn't say it was right, I said it was understandable. Bitter people make bad choices.

IClaudine · 15/03/2024 10:34

There needs to be a ban on anyone with a government contract donating to that government's party, either before or after a contract is awarded.

Exactly. Look at the upsurge in IRA recruitment after the Bloody Sunday murders.

IClaudine · 15/03/2024 10:08

Dale didn't benefit from over £400m worth of public sector contracts (since 1998) he also didn't call for a serving MP to be shot, just 3 years after Jo Cox was also shot dead.

I'll give you a 3/10 for effort but the two situations are entirely different, as are the amounts.

However, imho, individual donations should be capped, should not be made by companies etc benefiting from Gov contracts and should be made public immediately, not months later.

The Hester affair stinks of corruption.

Union donations are made by individual union members who a: don't have to be in a union and b; can opt out of party donations.

DuncinToffee · 15/03/2024 10:56

So @Clavinova , do you still think Hester's comments were probably racist or do you now agree they were racist?

And do you think he is a racist or merely someone who says racist things and should be forgiven?

Very odd then that Hester failed to show his appreciation by donating £££ to Labour Party, isn’t it?

How much has Dale cost the taxpayer by funding Just Stop Oil and their protests? Millions? Tens of Millions?

Not as much as the Rwanda plan is costing

The Conservatives & Hester seem to be enjoying some sort of cash back scheme.

Maybe he has a loyalty card.
I assume Hester is a party member.
