Frank Hestor reportedly said: “It’s like trying not to be racist but you see Diane Abbott on the TV, and you’re just like… you just want to hate all black women because she’s there.
“And I don’t hate all black women at all, but I think she should be shot.
“(The executive) and Diane Abbott need to be shot.”

Abominable, disgusting. Aibu to be incecsed by this?
Money allows all sorts of behaviours apparently, particularly if you give a lot of it to a political party.

Tory donor Frank Hester apologises over 'reprehensible' comments about Diane Abbott

Frank Hester has admitted making ‘rude’ comments about the politician but said they had ‘nothing to do with her gender nor colour of skin’

I don’t seem to be the one in a hole here

You are - you just don't know it obviously.

lol. Biting quip.

As you were, Clav.

🤣 Hilarious @Clavinova

I'm surprised to hear DA is still suspended. What more is there to investigate? Her article was divisive at the time, and even more so now, but I think she's a victim of the KS's much needed drive to rid the party of antisemitism in the severity of her sanction. Azhar Ali strayed into full blown anti-Semitic conspiracy theory trope territory, while DA talked about her lived experience, however unfortunately decided to downplay racism experienced by others to make her cause appear more worthy. It was poor by her, but Ali was far worse. Labour was dragged kicking and screaming to do the right thing in Rochdale but threw the book at DA. It is hard to argue against factionist favoritism when comparing these.

I think that Diane Abbott needs to be seen as completely above reproach for the party to restore the whip, especially in the run up to an election.
Antisemitism is a potential achilles heel for Labour and a lot of voters already think the worst of Abbott, in no small part due to the smear campaign against her. So it's probably taking them ages to sift through all the misinformation and be confident of the facts.
I think they were probably hoping to wait until after the election to decide. Or that she would retire gracefully so it all went away

Westfacing · 14/03/2024 18:09

I'm surprised that Dianne Abbot is seeking the return of the whip - if I were her I'd delight in telling Starmer where to go.

The Labour Party have been harsh with such a long ban.

I think if she stood as an independent she'd win.

cakeorwine · 14/03/2024 18:48

Christian forgiveness?

Really. I think Jesus would be demonised as woke.
His actions in the temple would see him classified as an extremist.
The Good Samaritan would be a story they wouldn't understand? Really - you helped a complete stranger who had been attacked and you provided money to ensure he was ok?

"He ain't no Christian"

Eh. Dale Vince might be a complete twat, (and I have no time for him), but he's not a dodgy source of money.

New information about his questionable views emerged yesterday;

Jewish News
Labour have been put under pressure by the Conservatives over donations to the party from Dale Vince, after it emerged that the green campaigner recently said it was his view, when asked about Hamas;

”I think one man’s freedom fighter is another man’s terrorist, right? That’s how it works.”

https://www.jewishnews.co.uk/labour-put-under-pressure-over-green-donor-vinces-hamas-remarks/

What is controversial about that? hero/terrorist depends on which side you are on, surely?

Quite. I thought that. History belongs to the Victor etc

BIossomtoes · 14/03/2024 18:58

I seem to remember that Thatcher thought Mandela was a terrorist.

I am sure some people would describe Hamas as freedom fighters. Others would describe them as terrorists.

I would describe them as terrorists.

I do know that saying that an MP should be shot and that seeing Diane Abbot makes someone want to hate all black women is clearly racist.

I don't suppose @Clavinova is going to explain what they think is wrong about saying some people believe Hamas are terrorists and others think they are freedom fighters.

She couldn’t even explain what was wrong with a poster pointing out Sunak’s doesn’t seem to have an issue with Hester being racist about Asians.

Hamas are 'heroes'? Seriously?

Some people would argue that.
Others would say they are terrorists.

Do you think that some people would describe Hamas as heroes?

I would say they are terrorists.

Surely you must be aware that other people have different views to you

The IRA. Terrorists or freedom fighters?

Do you think some people would call them terrorists?
Do you think some people would call them freedom fighters?

The Maquis - terrorists or freedom fighters?

Some people think they are heroes.
Some people think they are terrorists.

I am sure that there are people, especially in Gaza, who would see them as heroes.

And there are plenty, including myself, who see them as terrorists.

cakeorwine · 14/03/2024 20:00

I don't though expect you to understand the freedom fighter / terrorist debate.

It requires critical thinking and not just posting links.

So I see another large donation has gone to the Conservatives.

It's the gift that keeps giving.

If Keir Starmer was 'shocked' by Jeremy Corbyn why is he accepting donations from Dale Vince?

It is just another derail

Here is Sunak having trouble to call out extremism

https://x.com/implausibleblog/status/1768309263967896014?s=20

Three times in a row, Rishi Sunak refuses to say that saying MP Diane Abbott should be shot is extremism

Apparently donating £15 million to the Conservative party makes you exempt from the Conservative government's extremist legislation
