VestibuleVirgin · 12/03/2024 07:15

Frank Hestor reportedly said: “It’s like trying not to be racist but you see Diane Abbott on the TV, and you’re just like… you just want to hate all black women because she’s there.
“And I don’t hate all black women at all, but I think she should be shot.
“(The executive) and Diane Abbott need to be shot.”

Abominable, disgusting. Aibu to be incecsed by this?
Money allows all sorts of behaviours apparently, particularly if you give a lot of it to a political party.

Frank Hester has admitted making ‘rude’ comments about the politician but said they had ‘nothing to do with her gender nor colour of skin’

And she asks to be allowed her opinion without a pile on.

By the virtue of maths, if you have an unpopular opinion, the number of people disagreeing with you is going to be greater than those agreeing.

Don’t want a pile on, don’t share opinions lots of people disagree with.

whatsitcalledwhen · 12/03/2024 22:00

@scorpiogirly

You said this:

The comments were vile and racist. Do I believe they were racially motivated though? No.

People asked you to clarify how they could be racist but not 'racially motivated' and you said this:

I mean the comment sounds racist but I don't think he made the comment because she is a black woman.

Then when people pointed out how nonsensical this is you said:

But I don't think he hates her because she's a black woman. It's probably because she's incompetent, hates white people, antisemitic and has no place in politics.

And despite there being so very many reasons, in your opinion, to hate her, it was her race that he specifically mentioned before saying he would like her to be shot.

Funny that.

Almost as if he is a racist and that influences the way he speaks about black women, isn't it?

So it is the case that people can't voice their opinion without getting piled on?

I thought we’d already established that she’s not incompetent - at least her constituents don’t appear to think she is. Only the likes of Tommy Robinson think she doesn’t like white people. Her alleged anti semitism is a matter of opinion. And she’s been elected with a huge majority for 27 years and has as much of a place in politics as any other MP. Not to mention a place in history as the first black woman MP.

Apart from that you’re obviously right. Oh and why did he mention her skin colour?

She's democratically elected so of course she has a place in politics. That's how democracy works Confused

She also has a big majority and has been an MP for ages despite not being front bench or popular with the press which makes me thinks she's probably a good MP.

I'm not sure what your issue is here.

We didn't, no. It appears you established that during the thread. And alleged antisemitism? For which she essentially got sacked? Really?

Why has she got one of the biggest majorities in parliament if she’s incompetent? Are all her constituents stupid?

It would appear so. I wouldn't vote for her.

ilovesooty · 12/03/2024 22:08

No one has provided any evidence that she's an incompetent constituency MP. Funny that.

Maggiethecat · 12/03/2024 22:08

Why do you think he referred to her skin colour although as you suggest he was probably just fed up with her non physical qualities?

She is a very good local MP

It’s the case that if by pile on you mean ‘lots of people disagreeing with you’, then don’t be surprised if it happens when you post shit that lots of people disagree with.

But you do you, hun.

HRTQueen · 12/03/2024 22:10

You can’t argue with stupid ….

but don’t expect ignorance and supporting racism to be ignored

Look, I could tell you in my language what I think but I'd probably get banned. To me she's a useless, antisemitic racist. I'm bowing out. Night all.

Redundantrobin · 12/03/2024 21:56

I’ve read it all. You are victim blaming by using any and all references to Labour MPs doing things you deem unacceptable and continually bringing up DA’s own errors.

It’s pretty gross, but entirely expected of someone who believes the Tories can do no wrong.

I don't think I have 'continually' brought up DA's own errors - and I haven't been unkind about her at all. It wasn't me who first referenced the hypocrisy of comments from John McDonnell - and that diversion was prolonged by die-hard Labour supporters who think Labour MPs can do no wrong.

HRTQueen · 12/03/2024 22:10

I do not under any circumstances support racism.

This is what I mean. There are various posters on this thread throwing around accusations, making nasty assumptions etc. And yes it is a pile on when individual posters don't address the post they have taken issue with, but quote other posters in glee, making snide remarks.

Her constituents voted for her. They obviously don’t think that she is incompetent.

Over 70% of them - a vote share which took a slight dip in 2019 but has mainly been growing with every election.

If if that was true (and it isn't) - it doesn't justify the remarks made by Frank Hestor. Plenty of Tories (who presumably regard Diane Abbott in much the same way you do) can make that distinction and have highlighted the racism.

LadyKenya · 12/03/2024 22:14

I thought that she was going😴

Dymaxion · 12/03/2024 22:14

So it is the case that people's can't voice their opinion without getting piled on?

Opinion is fine, you believe that what he said is racist, but you also believe that the reason he said it has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that she is a black woman. I mean that's some serious mental gymnastics, but as an opinion you are entitled to say it. Just as in your opinion she hates white people and shouldn't be allowed to be in politics, without providing any actual evidence to back this up, which of course you don't need to because its only your opinion.
