VestibuleVirgin · 12/03/2024 07:15

Frank Hestor reportedly said: “It’s like trying not to be racist but you see Diane Abbott on the TV, and you’re just like… you just want to hate all black women because she’s there.
“And I don’t hate all black women at all, but I think she should be shot.
“(The executive) and Diane Abbott need to be shot.”

Abominable, disgusting. Aibu to be incecsed by this?
Money allows all sorts of behaviours apparently, particularly if you give a lot of it to a political party.

Actually found it on twitter.

What did you search to find it can I ask?

And what account did you find it on - could you share a link please?

I'm only asking as I would like to report it to Twitter as false information. It is such a dangerous false claim that directly endangers Diane Abbott's safety every time it is shared.

bombastix · 12/03/2024 15:06

Yes. Looks like Hester's company pays for Sunak's helicopter on occasion.

Absolutely no way should they return his money to him. How is that any kind of punishment? They should donate £10 million to an anti racist charity and Diane Abbott should get to choose which ones. And Hester should be investigated by the police.

Actually found it on twitter.

Never ever believe what you see on Twitter unless you can verify the source. Basic common sense.

Will you apologise?

Actually found it on twitter.

Still does not answer the fact of why you felt the need to post what even looked fake here, on this thread.

Good idea, we can all report it and Twitter might take note if we do.

Funny how it's suddenly doing the rounds again isn't it, being shared all over the place by people like you.

What about him saying he'd like to se her shot?

What about the idea that he wanted a female executive shot ? The idea that if 'they could find ways to make her look unprofessional', ;they could get rid of her? Thsi doesn't sound like any meeting I have ever been in.

What about the notion that the female exec was eating food that others need? The useless eater analogy?

Sorry my ignorance. I have just returned to the thread and it's seems dominated by the eating. I don't know what that refers to. I clearly need to educate myself but until I do so I can't comment.

I am not that worried about the shooting comment. I have often heard people say they will kill someone. They don't mean it. If I am being extraordinarily naive and he did mean it then he should be in prison.

Women are at no greater harm from bullets than men and they are shot far less frequently than men so I don't see threats of shooting as a feminist or sexist matter. It is a human matter.

There is so much irrelevant whataboutery on this thread.

This Tory donor's comments were hideously racist. The Tory party has a problem with racism. That is what the thread is about. The fact that other people may or may not be racist bears no relevance to the discussion. Racist or potentially racist comments made by other people neither excuse the comments made by this miserable excuse for a man, not do they make his remarks any less racist.

Posters should stop trying to divert attention away from this man's overt racism and misogyny. If you are not a racist yourself, then the only reasonable action is to condemn it, without reservation or qualification.

While I do agree with everything you just said, I find it astonishing that insults and slurs aimed at Pritti Patel, Kemi Badenoch and Suella Braverman on MN go largely unreported. The people who usually claim to care so much about racism and misogyny towards DA don't seem to care at all about abuse flung at Tory WOC.

Obviously if something is overtly racist, it will be deleted. But with DA it's often the case that, even when criticism of her on MN or social media in general has been triggered by her yet again opening her mouth and putting one of her oddly shod feet in it by saying something inaccurate, nonsensical or offensive, she is seen as untouchable on MN and anyone who thinks otherwise is clearly just a racist who is out to bring her down.

Whereas with the three Tory WOC the same rules do seem to not apply, even if they haven't actually said anything specific that is massively stupid or problematic. Just the mere fact of their existence as Tories doing their jobs seems to be enough to make them fair game.

A case in point is that there is are posts on MN where someone called Pritti Patel a 'that vile bitch; and another called Suella Braverman 'a fucking bitch.'

If anyone had said that about DA it would have been reported and deleted within minutes. Even a post just calling her 'vile' would get deleted, let alone a 'vile bitch.'

I have no respect whatsoever for most of DA's opinions and I do not share her politics, though I do respect her for being a trailblazer for black British women in general. I think she says some pretty questionable and revolting things but I would NEVER call her a vile bitch, either publicly or privately.

Yet the same people who leap to the defence of DA and insist that any criticism of her simply must be rooted in racism don't feel at all exercised to show the same levels of outrage when someone on MN calls PP or SB a vile/fucking bitch. They don't seem to find it offensive or misogynistic and presumably they don't jump to the conclusion that it's rooted in racism either. It's very strange.

whatsitcalledwhen · 12/03/2024 15:27

@scorpiogirly

You said you would look into it and apologise if it was fake.

Is that something you can do now? I shared links to Reuters confirming it's false. They are a global news agency with a dedicated fact checking team.

It was a fake quote.

And as mentioned if you can please share the Twitter post so we can report it that would be great. It's a genuinely dangerous post.

Westfacing · 12/03/2024 15:28

And your smug 'I'll just leave this here' which accompanied the false information, backfired beautifully!

I suggest you check in future before you rush to bad-mouth someone you don't like.

Not really, I've no problem backing down and admitting I was wrong.

Piggywaspushed · 12/03/2024 15:30

This is what he said notpossibly about TWO women.

It’s like trying not to be racist but you see Diane Abbott on the TV and you’re just like, I hate, you just want to hate all black women because she’s there, and I don’t hate all black women at all, but I think she should be shot.
“[The executive] and Diane Abbott need to be shot. She’s stupid … If we can get [the executive] being unprofessional we can get her sacked. It’s not as good as her dying. It would be much better if she died. She’s consuming resource. She’s eating food that other people could eat. You know?”

This goes well beyond every throw away comment I have ever heard about shooting people. Yes, I have heard people say 'I could kill him' or 'they should all be taken out and shot' but is comments border on a rather perverse fantasy.

I have never heard anyone say 'we can get her sacked' but that death would be preferable. I am sure he thought at the time that he was being terribly entertaining and edgy. Like Bernard Manning. Or Jim Davidson.

justteanbiscuits · 12/03/2024 15:30

Clavinova · 12/03/2024 14:41

Why are you defending John McDonnell?

Because you are using him as a reason to justify the comments from Hester. He recounted what he over heard, he did not say "she should be lynched". There is a big difference between recounting something over heard, and actually saying people should be shot, would be better off dead, and using up useful food.

scorpiogirly · 12/03/2024 15:30

Yes, I do apologise for posting and not checking first.

whatsitcalledwhen · 12/03/2024 15:31

Thanks.

Maybe next time don't take as gospel something said about racism by someone who also reposted Tommy Robinson quotes in the last day...

An apology wouldn't go amiss either for sharing misinformation that is genuinely dangerous to someone who regularly faces death threats and rape threats.

Did the odd shoes thing pass you by?

Piggywaspushed · 12/03/2024 15:34

Yes, why would I care?

newnamethanks · 12/03/2024 15:34

@Notpossibly whilst apologising for your ignorance on other matters look up the death of Jo Cox MP. Then come back and apologise some more. You'll feel ashamed if you're acquainted with the sensation.

IClaudine · 12/03/2024 15:34

TwigletsAndRadishes · 12/03/2024 15:33

Did the odd shoes thing pass you by?

She accidentally went out in mismatching shoes. So what?

I actually did this once myself.

pointythings · 12/03/2024 15:35

@TwigletsAndRadishes I would never condone personal attacks, but speaking for myself I find Priti Patel et al repulsive because of the policies they promote and support. And the fact that they promote those policies does speak to their character and their morals. Their sex and skin colour are irrelevant in this.

Whereas what Frank Hester said about Diane Abbott was very much about her sex and her skin colour and therefore both racist and sexist. If a Labour donor said similar about Suella Braverman, my response would be the same.
