Frank Hestor reportedly said: “It’s like trying not to be racist but you see Diane Abbott on the TV, and you’re just like… you just want to hate all black women because she’s there.
“And I don’t hate all black women at all, but I think she should be shot.
“(The executive) and Diane Abbott need to be shot.”

Abominable, disgusting. Aibu to be incecsed by this?
Money allows all sorts of behaviours apparently, particularly if you give a lot of it to a political party.

Tory donor Frank Hester apologises over 'reprehensible' comments about Diane Abbott

Frank Hester has admitted making ‘rude’ comments about the politician but said they had ‘nothing to do with her gender nor colour of skin’

I have already posted that I thought the comments were unacceptable - my very first post.

I am currently listening to LBC referring to the comments as 'alleged comments' - why would they say that?

As for the comments being racist - yes, probably (I have already posted that) but then I thought Diane Abbott's comments in 2012 were racist as well - she claimed not and said they were taken out of context;

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-16423278

She said " ''White people love playing 'divide & rule'""

Pretty sure this thread is the perfect example of that with all the "saying she should be shot is bad BUT..."

Lampzade · 12/03/2024 14:22

Racist apologists on this thread should be ashamed of yourself.

Clavinova · 12/03/2024 14:23

What is the relevance of her previous comments to the racist comments made by this man?

There were some similarities in the comments she made which she claimed were not racist and taken out of context.

Piggywaspushed
The fact that he [Hester] has repeatedly tried to apologise to her

Whereas John McDonnell has repeatedly refused to apologise to Esther McVey - he joked about her being lynched, referred to her as a ''bastard'' and called her "a stain on humanity" - Diane Abbott, Emily Thornberry and Dawn Butler all refused to call him out. Yvette Cooper did though.

Fuck all to do with the matter at hand.

Disgusting comments.

I presume that the Tory party is afraid of facing up to its racism problem because it suspects that many of its voters are racist and it plays on that to get votes.

I wonder how they sleep at night.

Yep

I think you're right. In fact comments like that could win them a few voters back from Reform.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 12/03/2024 14:25

I am currently listening to LBC referring to the comments as 'alleged comments' - why would they say that?

Because they were made in a private business meeting 5 years ago where he also talked about wanting to shoot an unnamed company executive alongside DA (for what exactly, we do not know) and I'm guessing that whoever leaked the story now has not made a verified transcript public. Either there isn't one so it's hearsay, or there is one, but it's not been released.

Although as he's apologised to DA he clearly knows he's guilty as charged.

What bearing does that have on whether or not the specific comments made by this specific man about her are racist?

Racist apologists on this thread should be ashamed of yourself.

They never are though, they just keep coming back with their whatabouts, and nonsense, to justify their own, and others racism.

According to the Minister sent out this morning... "the Tories welcome donations from wherever they come from...."

This of course is very true, they took millions from Putin supporters.

Which Russian donors? Any names or just speculation?

I may have missed your point in the hundreds of post, so indulge me…

Of what relevance is Dianne’s 2012 comments to what is being discussed?

Are you arguing that what the man said is not racist, not misogynistic because Dianne’s comment invalidates his racism?

You’d die holding your breath for that one, unfortunately.
They unashamedly spread their bile all across MN - you’ll find plenty on AIBU, Chat, Black Mumsnet, and I’ve heard they feast on the Royal Family threads.

John McDonnell said:

"‘I spoke at a packed public meeting... a group in the audience completely kicked off quite critical of the whole concept because they were arguing, “Why are we sacking her? Why aren’t we lynching the b?”’"

He repeated what he had over heard.

Why are you defending John McDonnell?

What could probably make them not racist?

HanaJane · 12/03/2024 14:42

Disgusting thing to say, and of course it's racist and sexist, trying to say it's not is making it worse!

IClaudine · 12/03/2024 14:43

Clav, stop trying to derail. This thread is not about what McDonnell said about McVey. It is about Hester's racism towards Diane Abbott.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 12/03/2024 14:48

There is so much irrelevant whataboutery on this thread.

This Tory donor's comments were hideously racist. The Tory party has a problem with racism. That is what the thread is about. The fact that other people may or may not be racist bears no relevance to the discussion. Racist or potentially racist comments made by other people neither excuse the comments made by this miserable excuse for a man, not do they make his remarks any less racist.

Posters should stop trying to divert attention away from this man's overt racism and misogyny. If you are not a racist yourself, then the only reasonable action is to condemn it, without reservation or qualification.

LadyKenya · 12/03/2024 14:49

And his only 'punishment' will probably be to get his £10 million back.
