Frank Hestor reportedly said: “It’s like trying not to be racist but you see Diane Abbott on the TV, and you’re just like… you just want to hate all black women because she’s there.
“And I don’t hate all black women at all, but I think she should be shot.
“(The executive) and Diane Abbott need to be shot.”

Abominable, disgusting. Aibu to be incecsed by this?
Money allows all sorts of behaviours apparently, particularly if you give a lot of it to a political party.

Tory donor Frank Hester apologises over 'reprehensible' comments about Diane Abbott

Frank Hester has admitted making ‘rude’ comments about the politician but said they had ‘nothing to do with her gender nor colour of skin’

Ah the cut, and paste queen is back! How surprising🙄

Yes - my eyes couldn't have rolled back any further when I saw Clav had decided to stick her "cut and paste" whataboutery oar in.🙄

You are being ridiculous. And implying she somehow got an easy ride because she is black is also racist.

yes, of course you are, because she is known for her incompetence and racism. So you get comments about her incompetence and racism.

Kendodd · 12/03/2024 13:58

Tory Donors Take Note!
You can 'donate' millions to the party, win half a billion in government contracts (entirely coincidentally) let a bit of racism rip, then they have to refund your bribe... sorry, donation. Genius! Only downside, you might not still get your, completely bought and paid for peerage (but you probably will).

What should happen, the Tories shouldn't give back a single penny. They should donate £10 mill to anti racist charities and Diane Abbot should get to decide which ones. Then the police should investigate him for race hate speech and calling for a Member of Parliament to be shot.

Comments like that say more about you and your lack of moral compass than Abbott, who unlike you has been successfully elected by her constituents over several general elections.

Course you have. You seem to have based your opinion on inaccurate reporting and / or not understanding the context of her remarks. You’ve been corrected several times on this thread. Perhaps a little more care in your sources and clarity of comprehension is required from you.

So you come on a thread about the hate, misogyny and racism being piled on an MP and contribute this?

comments like that show your ignorance and lack of experience with her

My whole family left her local labour party after her ignorance, aggression and stupidity made it unsafe for our ethnic origin

But how did we get to a discussion about how justified hatred of Dianne Abbot is? No one should be talking about shooting her.

The shooting isn’t the only abhorrent part of the comments. If you don’t see what’s wrong with the rest, I think you are racist.

You are the one who is flinging shit about Diane Abbott. But you have been unable to justify your hatred so far.

Clavinova · 12/03/2024 14:08

BIossomtoes · 12/03/2024 13:52

Oh give it a rest @Clavinova. First you throw doubt on him having said it, now you’re whatabouting. You’d have a lot more respect round here if you just acknowledged it was racist and condemned it - like Kwarteng has.

Edited

I have already posted that I thought the comments were unacceptable - my very first post.

I am currently listening to LBC referring to the comments as 'alleged comments' - why would they say that?

As for the comments being racist - yes, probably (I have already posted that) but then I thought Diane Abbott's comments in 2012 were racist as well - she claimed not and said they were taken out of context;

Why would he not deny them and attempt to apologise if he didn’t make them?

Well, yours was the one that got deleted, not mine.

So i'll leave it to others to decide who is ignorant and lacks experience.

sparklefart · 12/03/2024 14:12

Her incompetency is nothing to do with skin colour or her sex. He's outed himself and there's no going back for him!

Because they are a media organisation and have to abide by the rules and laws surrounding slander. In such cases, the onus is on the person making the remarks to prove they are true (opposite to most laws where it’s ’innocent until proven guilty). So generally they err on the side of caution because it’s very hard to win against an accusation of slander. The fact that he won’t deny saying these things speaks volumes

How does anyrhing Diane Abbott may have said make the comments about her any less racist?

What is the relevance of her previous comments to the racist comments made by this man?

You say 'probably' which means you don't objectively believe they are racist. He has not challenged the words attributed to him so they are not in question, they are the words he used.

So you saying 'probably' is confusing.

Was what he said objectively racist, or not?

CheapThrillsMeanNothing · 12/03/2024 14:16

Apparently according to Lord Jonathan Marland, Frank Hester can't be racist because he does business all over the world, including Jamaica and Malaysia.
Slave traders did business in Jamaica. Enough said.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 12/03/2024 14:17

I can't stand DA. I think she has consistently shown herself over and over again to be vile, arrogant, hypocritical and useless. However, this man is a racist and an idiot.

I imagine more than a few Tory haters have privately expressed their fantasy violent urges towards Jacob Rees Mogg or Boris Johnson or Pritti Patel or Suella Braverman. It doesn't mean they have any real intention of hurting them, or of hoping to see them hurt by someone else (although I suspect plenty might hope for that, if they were being honest.) It's merely a way of expressing their intense dislike and total lack of respect for a particular politician or public figure.

Where this idiot went wrong was to mention 'all black women'.

If he'd just focused on his apparent urge to shoot DA because of the bile and nonsense that comes out of her mouth, then while some people would undoubtedly still shout 'racism!' (because they do that every single time anybody criticises DA for anything at all) it would clearly not have been a racist thing to say.

Even the comment did came from a place of racism, it would have been very easy for him to refute that, and almost impossible for anyone else to prove otherwise.

But he clearly doesn't have a leg to stand on here. All this talk of 'trying not to be racist' and 'I don't hate all black women but' has shown him in his true light. He's choosing to equate her more unlikeable characteristics with the fact that she is a black woman.

Bang to rights.

Oh Clav, you've come on to defend the racist Tories. I knew you'd be on here doing your bit. I know Boris Johnson is you favorite Tory racist. Have you got a favourite bit of racism from him? Or do you prefer all his sexist or homophobic comments? We could reminisce together about all the hateful things your favorite Tory has said over the years Smile

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 12/03/2024 14:19

Disgusting comments.

I presume that the Tory party is afraid of facing up to its racism problem because it suspects that many of its voters are racist and it plays on that to get votes.

I wonder how they sleep at night.

bombastix · 12/03/2024 14:21

Perhaps @Clavinova you could explain the parts that were not racist?

Had this odious man criticized Abbott's views then he would have had defence. As it was, he just referred to her sex, her race, expanded that to a class of black women, and referred tacitly to a Nazi era eugenicist theory.
