I agree with OP I think it is unprecedented.

They’ve killed it because it was edited, not for any other reason. It's not massive news. She's probably ill. Not everything is the massive conspiracy it’s made out to be.

Respectfully, that's not why they would have killed it. Press images are photoshopped all the time. For them to 'kill it', means there's a reason why this particular photo must never see the light of day...

Meanwhile, in Gaza...

Funnily enough other news stories exist other than Gaza......

sofiamofia · 11/03/2024 01:46

I agree with you OP, it is massive that the photo has been pulled.

Lolling at people that cannot stand any questioning of the royal family.

If this was a photo of H & M that was pulled, the same posters would be calling for their titles.

Lampzade · 11/03/2024 01:46

Jumpingthruhoops · 11/03/2024 01:34

It's not the editing of the photo that's 'massive' per se; but issuing a kill notice strongly suggests there could be something 'massive' going on behind the scenes...

Yep

JaneJeffer · 11/03/2024 01:47

Like what @Jumpingthruhoops ?

Garlicking · 11/03/2024 01:53

Is it normal for Kate not to wear her wedding rings?

lemonmeringueno3 · 11/03/2024 02:08

Well it is currently the headline news item on the BBC so it is certainly a significant story.

But all of the news agencies who have pulled it have made it clear that a kill notification is just a media term for a retraction, and that it's been retracted because they make commitments to their clients that they will never knowingly use a manipulated image.

What a stupid thing to say.....

Blankspace4 · 11/03/2024 02:16

I’ve just heard that a kill notification hasn’t been used in >25 years?!

goodness, I wonder what’s going on. I haven’t bought in to any of the conspiracy theories but this really is strange.

I'm still thinking most likely they have released the photo to appease the public/media and allow her to recover in peace, but it’s a blatant misrepresentation if so and trust in the royals will drop even further.

JaneJeffer · 11/03/2024 01:47

Like what @Jumpingthruhoops ?

I don't know. Only they do.
But a kill notice would not be issued on the content of an image alone. ie, it's not a question of how it's been doctored but why...

Never see the light of day? It’s already in the public domain. Various press sources aren’t meant to use it, but you can still freely google and (gasp) save it to your phone if you really want.

Im honestly curious- what COULD be massive about this news? I’m beyond baffled as to what the potential significance of this is. All googling returns is a whole bunch of stories about this picture- no actual detail on the procedure or policy. So what gives?

HelloMiss · 11/03/2024 02:44

For a photo thats been 'pulled' or 'killed' or whatever, I'm seeing it everywhere now!! Would normally not notice!

Also...MASSIVE?? Like the mumsnet MASSIVE salad?

That’s Catherine’s

DaysofHoney · 11/03/2024 03:31

It’s big news yep. That the media have ‘stood up’ to the Royals like this, and not just kept the image online is quite telling.

I wonder how on earth KP will respond. I work in comms and can only imagine the conversations happening behind the scenes!

Ilovecleaning · 11/03/2024 03:33

aband · 11/03/2024 00:12

It's also old news.

Is it? The so-called photoshop story only came out yesterday.

Kazplus2 · 11/03/2024 02:57

There are 4 people in the photo. There are 8 hands in the photo. Count them.

Stopsnowing · 11/03/2024 03:41

KP put out an official photo to reassure people that Kate is fine. Major news agencies issue a kill notice seeming due to i concerns over its authenticity. Seems quite major to me.

Ilovecleaning · 11/03/2024 03:45

I’d be grateful for any explanations as I actually don’t understand this: how can you ‘kill’ an image that is in the public domain and has already been seen by millions? Are these agencies simply making a point ie, ‘ we are distancing ourselves even though we know you’ve all seen it’?
Or am I missing something?
Genuine question.

HelloMiss · 11/03/2024 03:47

😂 at it being 'killed'

It's being shared and circulated more than it ever would have been!

Never see the light of day….
But millions have already seen it.
