I don't meal like bugs, heights, death ... I mean something strange.. unconventional.. something that might need a bit of explanation.

I'll go first -

Water towers ... the thought of them makes me shudder.

Google earth

when you click on a location and you have no idea what you will see as you scan around an area. Bork

Also, the sea. Not the coast but like the ocean. Absolutely no need for it to be so vast and dark.
Hideous

The ocean, yes me too. I’ve always considered myself a lover of water, but when I went on a cruise that went out of sight of land I found it terrifying. We had a lovely balcony and I couldn’t sit on it and look at that water. Still gives me shivers.

In contrast I love water towers!
I Have an entire album of photos stored on my phone devoted to them. I always take a pic when I see one.

Velvet anything 🤮

Lolly49 · 11/03/2024 08:13

Paul McCartney can’t stand the sight of him makes me feel sick.

BobbyBiscuits · 11/03/2024 08:17

I've remembered another one. Toilet brushes. Ever since I was a small child. I have never been able to have one in my home.

I used to be deathly scared of fire extinguishers. I still find them intimidating but they used to make me want to cry!

MrsToothyBitch · 11/03/2024 08:21

Peacocks. They terrify me. Even the feathers terrify me. Peahens terrify me because they usually mean cocks aren't too far away. There are loads of places we can't go to because of the bastard birds.

Really huge things- the stern view of giant ships, extremely tall buildings, huge silent wind turbines, front views/ noses on aeroplanes. The enormity of space as mentioned by a pp. They all creep me out. Vaguely linked is my dislike of the idea of a shipwreck or plane wreck debris under the sea. Sinister.

Also get squicked out by things like eggs, beans, other peoples ketchup- those disgusting mcdonalds pots are the worst- as per pps. I also agree with the person who thinks sunflowers are creepy. I don't like the way they turn to the sun whilst being faceless. It seems cultish.

DH is amused by this one, but I don't trust the sun 🌞. Everyone thinks it's soooooo nice, giving us life but I think it's too huge and secretly evil. It's massive and in space and it's so fiery and it burns stuff and one day it's going to destroy us. I don't trust it!

Oh my gosh I really do feel this about google earth... it is a real funny feeling.
Worse when it gives you a location with a water tower in view which are already horrifying to me 😂

I have submechanophobia

Yes, this is just horrifying. And even when you type it into google it doesn't just bring up an explanation... but first PHOTOS. Nope

Slugs.
Especially the big ones. I found one in my fridge once. That was a difficult day.

Well that would effectively stop fridge snacking 😆

Trypophobia is mine, but it think its a common one. Its a fear or aversion to small holes, clusters or bumps. 😫 Just typing that made me cringe.

I do understand this one. Regular things like crumpets etc that some struggle with, don't bother me... but those horrible AI images of hands and faces etc really make me feel nauseous

in fact, I’ve written about it on this forum before - that time someone added a photo which scared the shit out of me (although it was great to speak to someone who had the same thing-sue even had it worse and couldn’t deal with pipes anywhere but mine just the toilets, sometimes I have dreams where the cistern is really high and with all wonky pipes-even writing that is making me feel panicky 😱

Yes when I read what you said about the cisterns I thought of the thread I saw not long ago about someone asking how to make theirs look more appealing and the whole thread was full of different types and styles.
Must have been horrible for you, it's not nice when unconventional fears pop up out of the blue!!

@Uniqueusername1 same!!! See also apple cores and banana skins - again, rarely eat fruit as a result.

Also Morris Dancers - freak the shit out of me.

I understand this about Morris Dancers. I had an obsession with them as a child.. but it was because they freaked me out 😂

Large metal objects in water - like oil rigs or submarines - oh they makes me feel really odd - started with the huge chains at the pier head when I was a child - just eughhh

Oh god the oil rigs. Don't 🥴🤢

Spiral staircases. They absolutely freak me out. I'm not too bad if they're open (though I reallydont like them), but any type of church or castle that has an enclosed spiral staircase is a complete no-go for me. I can't breathe, I get shaky, my vision goes wonky. I just have to get away from them!

I also have a really visceral reaction to stickers or sellotape. The sound of it peeling makes me heave, and if it touches me, I will absolutely lose my shit. If someone has a sticker on that's peeling at the edges, I feel physically sick.

I've never met anyone else with either.

With the stickers and sellotape I think it's something to do with your heating.
I know cats get it !! 😆
If you google it, there's various videos of people pulling sellotape and cats uncontrollably gagging.
(Although you may not want to see if you get the same reaction!!)

Open Drains where I want to park my car

I won't park it I see an open drain thing with the gaps in

IYKWIM so the ones with the OPEN SLITS

I am so scared of dropping my keys down them

It has never happened to me or anyone I know and I have never actually seen it happen to anyone in my life

However, I am really scared about them so don't park anywhere near them

When I was little my nan and I went to a working water mill, and the floor in the building was wooden slats with gaps, over the river..... she dropped her keys In 🫣

Not me, but my sister is terrified of big, fluffy clouds.

I understand this. I love looking at clouds, but huge ones where I can see the difference in densities and shapes etc have often made me feel uneasy.

Jacob Rees Mogg.
Although maybe that’s not weird.
His pretentious drawl makes me want to tear my skin off. I can’t listen to him at all. He gives me the creeps.

Absolutely valid

Striking matches. I have one of those electronic arc lighters for lighting candles.

WhimsicalMoth · 11/03/2024 09:49

@BeretRaspberry my nan has this about getting her blood pressure taken. She's had it since she was young. She calls it white coat syndrome... I think it is a thing.

@DistressedDamson Omg. I've never met anyone else with the same phobia.
Not sure if you are the same but I'm really bad with black toilet seats. I cannot use a toilet with a black seat. Even the thought of using a toilet with a black seat frightens me.

All of the toilets at my school when i was younger had black toilet seats. In every school! I don't think you see them as much now. Maybe I don't realise

Viaducts. Victorian train stations.

I live right next to a long long viaduct with various different things under it. You can't see it well as it is a very built up area

Morph. Ever since I was a small child. I'd hide behind the sofa when he came on tv. I was terrified of him. I still feel very uneasy when I see him.
Later on, the butter figures (man made of butter playing trumpet?) in a Lurpak ad seemed just as scary. Perhaps it was the shapeshifting element that freaked me out?

For the life of you do not watch "mio mao" I remember that vividly from being a child

@LightSpeeds when you stood under the wind turbine... did it make a noise ??? I think that would make it more scary for me. I'm thinking of a particular type of noise that would just make me want to die. Enlighten me

Dry rot, I caught a terrible chest infection from it many many years ago.
