There are always so many disappointed Mother's day threads, I wanted to create a positive one.

I'm having an amazing day because:

I was able to snuggle with my young dcs in bed this morning.

Dh brought me a coffee up, and the dcs drinks, which we drank in bed together. We played, laughed, and cuddled.

DH made dc's breakfast. I could hear dc1 complaining about "daddy's fried egg" and how it wasn't "Mummy's poachies." He ended up enjoying said eggs. All of the chatter brought a smile to my face.

I could hear their little voices downstairs, writing my cards out, and saying not finished, need to write or colour this, etc. They excitedly came upstairs to give me them, my 4 year old, so proud of his scribbles all over the card he chose. My other dc who is on the spectrum wrote it all out himself without prompting, was able to say happy mother's day, be upbeat etc, without being overwhelmed ( he hasn't been like that before, as usually hates any fuss). I was so touched and proud of him.

The cards meant the world, but on top of it, they proudly presented me with an M&S "Big Daddy" bar. This is a beast of a chocolate bar, like something Willy Wonka has made. I mean, come on, what is better than that??

I am currently lying in bed with a cup of tea, about to have a bath, with salts, and my new towelling robe dh got earlier in the week. I'm recently bereaved, so I had been a bit down.

What more could I ask for? I have a beautiful family. We're imperfectly perfect, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Anyway, I would love to hear why today is amazing for you, too.

My DD14 loves code-cracking puzzles as much as I do and created a special one for Mother's Day using lots of hand-crafted hearts. It ended with me opening an envelope to find the most gorgeous letter inside telling me how much she loves me and what a great mum I am, with an online link to a montage of her favourite pictures of us. We've been clashing a lot recently – her puberty vs my menopause, nightmare! – and the letter and video was so unexpectedly lovely that I cried! I also got flowers and presents and got taken out for a pub roast for lunch. Now drinking tea and watching telly. Best Mother's Day ever.

ButterflyTable · 10/03/2024 18:14

Some thoughtful presents, new cushions an orchid and a painting by my DC. A lovely card.

a lie in, lunch out and a long shower. Been binge watching a TV show.

DH has been doing chores all day, not chores I’d do on my own , stuff we’d do together but I feel a bit lazy!

Lemonyyy · 10/03/2024 18:15

My little ds drew me a lovely Mother’s Day card then painstakingly addressed it…to himself 😂 I spent far too long giggling to myself about this.

Outtathisworld · 10/03/2024 18:15

Because 2 years ago I lost a twin pregnancy and this year I’m snuggling up to my 1 year old son 💙

FutureMandosWife · 10/03/2024 18:15

My 7 year old went to a shop with my pal and got me a card and Percy pigs, and wanted a cuddle in bed this morning.

And now if going to give me an early night as he is tired.

Dh brought a chocolate cake home with a note saying eat me and he at work so having peace and quiet.

BeretRaspberry · 10/03/2024 18:20

My grown up son got me a lovely card and a bunch of flowers.

My teenage children, with the help of DH, got me cards, flowers and chocolates.

(The gifts aren’t the best bit, the thoughtfulness is).

We’ve been to spend the afternoon with my mum (sisters and families) for a couple of hours and then with my lovely mother in law for a couple of hours afterwards.

But the thing that made me burst with pride is, my mid teen son took himself to the shop yesterday and, completely unprompted, bought me a bar of chocolate with his own money.

Cuckoochanel80 · 10/03/2024 18:20

I got hugs from my 19 month old in bed this morning.
No stressful lunches, just spent the day pottering about and watching Columbo.

ReadingSoManyThreads · 10/03/2024 18:20

I had a lie in.

Husband made a lovely roast dinner.

I got lovely cards and some daffodils.

I had a lovely walk by myself in the rain (which I like).

I planted up some new houseplants.

I'm just chilling, enjoying a nice day.

I'm happy with an understated day, I don't need fancy shit to make it a good day.

Thank you for this thread, the other thread about banning it made me sad, it doesn't have to be a big hoohaa, just an acknowledgement of motherhood is enough for a lot of us.

DyddDewiSant · 10/03/2024 18:23

16-year-old DS with learning difficulties brought me tea and toast (helped by dh) and gave me some yellow roses he helped choose.
I had a thoughtful card from DD (18) - no gift as I told her not to.
We all went to church and then went to my mum's and made dinner together, as we do every year.
DH went to see his mum with the kids and left me to watch Wales v France.
I'm going to have a nice soak in the bath and a large gin to finish off a great day.

SecondHandFurniture · 10/03/2024 18:26

"DS" got me gin and some pyjamas, then when we went to the supermarket he choose me some tulips. Got a handmade card and one from DH. Didn't lose to Man City. Tonight is curry and red wine!

hulahoopqueen · 10/03/2024 18:34

Got up when I was ready to, 9mo DD being taken downstairs when she woke up (6am) by DH

Lovely drive round the countryside while DD napped

Over to MILs to see SIL and 2x BILs and niece there too, and DD decided to take some wobbly steps with DNiece's toy buggy!!

Nando's lunch

Watched a movie during DD's second nap

Trip to smyths to buy DD a toy buggy of her own 😂

Now chilling on the sofa while DH puts DD to bed (he's a trouper, she usually breastfeeds to sleep but he's persevering), doing the NYT crossword.

Bloody lovely day.

Dancerprancer19 · 10/03/2024 18:37

My kids were helped to bring me breakfast in bed. I had a good day at work. Then DH cooked me my favourite dinner.
A nice day.

RadRad · 10/03/2024 18:39

Because I didn’t have ridiculously high expectations, I was simply grateful that I was with my little toddler and her dad, all healthy and well, having a nice walk outside despite the rain. It’s the little things really…

Slothsandspiderman · 10/03/2024 18:50

Thanks OP for creating a lovely thread.
Had a lie in
brew in bed
home made cards
bar of chocolate and some socks
lovely meal out
chilling with a glass of wine.
simple gestures of love is all it takes xx

MumChp · 10/03/2024 18:50

Flowers, a book and cards. And fun at church. Great day!

DoraDont · 10/03/2024 18:59

I have some lovely flowers, cooked a nice lunch for my mum and dad, and had a few hours child free this afternoon.

Man City & Liverpool also had the kindness to draw, meaning that Arsenal are top of the league for my birthday week. All is well with my world.

Mel2023 · 10/03/2024 19:14

We were up and out the door for an appointment for DS this morning, so no breakfast in bed! But on the way back we got takeout breakfast baguettes and nice coffees and got home, changed back into comfy clothes and had our treat breakfast on the couch. My nearly 2 year old presented me a card bigger than him (which he’d picked out in the shop) and had “drawn” in with his crayons. He also gave me with a lovely bunch of flowers - which he was very excited to smell - and a box of chocolates (which again DH said he chose). He’s spent all day attempting to eat all the chocolates! We FaceTimed both mums and then went for a late lunch at a pub we’d never been to before and had a lovely meal, no tantrums from DS who, for once, ate all his food as the kids menu was really decent. Back home and played trains with DS. DH has just presented me with a glass of Prosecco as he’s taken DS up for a bath. Lovely!

I love this! ❤️ Hope you had a love filled day.

Thank you for being so kind 🥰💗💗💗

VampireWeekday · 10/03/2024 19:28

I've had an amazing day. Got woken up by my wonderful four year old excitedly handing me a card which he has signed himself - it's the first card I've ever received in which he's written his own name all by himself and I'll treasure it for the rest of my life. He was so proud! Had a lovely cuddle with him and toast and tea in bed. Then had a lovely roast dinner with DH and DC at our local pub. Got lots of extra cuddles from DC for "my special day". Very happy!

Everydayimhuffling · 10/03/2024 19:31

What a lovely thread.

DP got up with both DC when they woke in the night so I got to sleep! I had cards made at school/nursery from my DC, and a card with a lovely message from DP that made me cry. Also big hugs from my little humans. A lovely message from my mum about me doing a good job (something I don't often feel is true). Then just a nice day with a family trip to a farm. It was lovely.

SuddenlyOld · 10/03/2024 19:41

My adult kids always make sure they see me or call me on mother's day. Some get me a card/flowers/treat but I'm not fussed if they don't. I'm more than happy if they just send a text tbh.

ChewbaccasMrs · 10/03/2024 19:44

I slept in till this afternoon,I've done my back in and can barely move so my DH wouldn't let our DDs wake me up bless him.
I've had gorgeous cards, lots of flowers, chocolates and shortbread and my DH bought me a waterglobe that relates back to my childhood and he bought me a book as well that I'd never read before that I can read with my DGS.I have another present on its way as well a gorgeous storage case for my perfumes that I thought had sold out.
To top it all of my lovely DH made lamb shanks for dinner and a tiramisu for desert.

Despite my back pain I've had a lovely mothers day thanks to my family.

Autienotnaughtie · 10/03/2024 20:23

I got a lay in, Crossants and coffee on bed. Pressies and cards from all three dc.Then a bath. . Then we had bacon sarnies and went to play mini golf. Dd and I walked the dog and dh cooked a roast. Just about to watch a romantic comedy.

Spudlover · 10/03/2024 20:27

DD got the coach for 10 hours earlier in the week to spend the day with me 🥰 She bought some nice cakes and I got some lovely bits. In theory they are from both her and DS…

DS didn’t hiss at me when I hugged him 🤣 He loves it really.

rooftopbird · 10/03/2024 20:48

Stayed in and did the bare minimum whilst DS went to his swimming lesson then spent the rest of the afternoon with DS eating soup and sourdough playing battleships and watching films.
