There are always so many disappointed Mother's day threads, I wanted to create a positive one.

I'm having an amazing day because:

I was able to snuggle with my young dcs in bed this morning.

Dh brought me a coffee up, and the dcs drinks, which we drank in bed together. We played, laughed, and cuddled.

DH made dc's breakfast. I could hear dc1 complaining about "daddy's fried egg" and how it wasn't "Mummy's poachies." He ended up enjoying said eggs. All of the chatter brought a smile to my face.

I could hear their little voices downstairs, writing my cards out, and saying not finished, need to write or colour this, etc. They excitedly came upstairs to give me them, my 4 year old, so proud of his scribbles all over the card he chose. My other dc who is on the spectrum wrote it all out himself without prompting, was able to say happy mother's day, be upbeat etc, without being overwhelmed ( he hasn't been like that before, as usually hates any fuss). I was so touched and proud of him.

The cards meant the world, but on top of it, they proudly presented me with an M&S "Big Daddy" bar. This is a beast of a chocolate bar, like something Willy Wonka has made. I mean, come on, what is better than that??

I am currently lying in bed with a cup of tea, about to have a bath, with salts, and my new towelling robe dh got earlier in the week. I'm recently bereaved, so I had been a bit down.

What more could I ask for? I have a beautiful family. We're imperfectly perfect, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Anyway, I would love to hear why today is amazing for you, too.

DH gave me a personalised mug with pictures of DS and me on it.

Went to a baby swim class with DS.

Had a McDonald's on the way home (Even though I said I wouldn't be having any junk food for atleast a month)

Didn't feel guilty about it tho! Diet starts on Monday hehe

In the nicest possible way, what on earth are you doing thinking cheese on toast is a breakfast food? 🤣

It is toast, it is acceptable for any and all meal times!

Dumbledore167 · 10/03/2024 16:26

I got a lovely breakfast in bed, a house plant and a card. 🙂
Went to give my Mum her plants, chocolates and card and now about to go for a Sunday roast with DH and kids.
The best part of the whole weekend though (😂) is that I haven’t been allowed to lift a finger with housework. DH done it ALL incl 3 bathrooms and folding every bit of washing/cleaning every room. YAS 🙌🏻
He always does at least half (we both work full time) but this is a real treat.

I am pretty laidback though and don’t think I’d have minded if I didn’t get anything as the 3 of them (DS, 9, DD 10 and DH) are very loving and appreciative throughout the year, which is more important than the one day isn’t it?

whiteroseredrose · 10/03/2024 16:28

Great for me because my adult children remembered without any hints from me!

Bigearringsbigsmile · 10/03/2024 16:29

My adult son jumped out of bed as soon as he heard me get up and presented me with lovely thoughtful gifts and a nice card. My other son lives abroad and sent a lovely card with a really sweet message. He facetimed me and as we were talking, a delivery of flowers from him arrived.

Cooking a roast dinner now. Feel very lucky and loved.

Maray1967 · 10/03/2024 16:32

I’ve had flowers delivered and hotel chocolat chocs plus a card each from my two DSs, and DH cooked my favourite roast lamb. Great!

Yes, I’ve washed up what doesn’t go in the dishwasher but I’m fine with that.

Missrosie123 · 10/03/2024 16:36

Having a lovely day. My seven year DS gave me a beautiful card he made in school with some flowers bought with DH’s help. Cup of tea and toast in bed shared between us all. Out for local pub lunch with parents. Lovely carvery. Feel happy seeing my mum happy. Just a chilled afternoon now with the usual house stuff.

LolaSmiles · 10/03/2024 16:37

I had a lie in, a token gesture of appreciation, some family time and I've had time this afternoon to watch some shows that interest me and relax.

lavagal · 10/03/2024 16:41

I feel loved. DD6 made me a card and helped to make breakfast with her dad. She gave me the biggest cuddle and said she loved me - that's all I need!

DH cooking lunch is an added bonus and appreciated but my gosh that homemade card I'll treasure forever

Rooroobear · 10/03/2024 16:44

Because I woke up to a big cuddle from my dd….lots of sweets from my dc….now having a glass of Prosecco in peace in a blanket while my dc are with their dad for a few hours! Lovely day so far. Happy Mother’s Day!

stayathomer · 10/03/2024 16:46

I was working and the atmosphere was just another level in terms of mood. Everyone happy out. Now home for the cheesecake I bought in the shopping!

telestrations · 10/03/2024 16:47

This is my first as an expectant Mum

Had lovely long zoom with my Mum yesterday as her timezone is a day ahead

DH made me a superb breakfast with asparagus wrapped in bacon and got me a bunch of daffodils earlier in the week

I'm now going to have a nice craft day

AvonleaHeart · 10/03/2024 16:48

We celebrate Mother's Day even though we have cats not kids.

It's a tradition we started after failed IVF and I know some people will sneer, but it's made a tough day quite a fun and special one.

So I've had a cup of tea in bed and a beautiful card!
My husband writes different messages from all 3 cats 😹

And I've got Squashies and Doritos and we are going to watch a movie tonight and it's a day where I feel super appreciated for everything I do for the household.

I feel really lucky that although my life didn't turn out as expected, we still find ways to celebrate and make it lovely.

ANiceBigCupOfTea · 10/03/2024 16:50

My child passed away sadly but all my loved ones have all wished me a happy Mothers Day, I saw my lovely MiL earlier for mothers day and her birthday, I'm relaxing and having a lovely chilled out Sunday and later on DH is treating me out to a meal in one of our favourite restaurants.

IndignantIguana · 10/03/2024 16:51

My mum is terminally ill but still here and we had a lovely dinner cooked by my brother and spent some time all together.

Daffnee · 10/03/2024 16:54

I went for a run with the dog while DS and DC made me breakfast. DC then cooked lunch for me and my mum.

ShakeNvacStevens · 10/03/2024 16:58

My now adult DSC, totally off their own backs, sent me a Mother’s Day card and also messaged me saying love you and thank you for all you do. It makes me feel indescribably happy to know my love for them is reciprocated to some extent at least. DH also cooked me a roast dinner and bought me a lovely bunch of flowers because he knows Mother’s Day is tinged with sadness for me because I never got to have DC of my own so he appreciates me helping to bring up DSC.

ScruffGin · 10/03/2024 17:01

DH has gone skiing with friends, so just be and DD, but he took her to the garden centre yesterday and bought me some plants (unfortunately they're the exact same ones I bought last week and planted next to the front door 😂), but it's the thought that counts.

DD made me a lovely card at school (she's 5), and we went to a water park this morning. All good 😄

gingeristhenewblack43 · 10/03/2024 17:03

DD12 came back from staying at her dad's last night and gave me a lovely bunch of flowers. And because she couldn't wait gave me my card and chocs.

This morning we slobbed on the sofa catching up on TV, then went out for a drive. We ended up getting impromptu fish and chips at the coast. Takeaway (as the restaurant was busy) and sat in the car scoffing them.

Home for a cuppa then I had a nap. I don't think we'll need dinner after our fish and chips but might have something light later on.

DD is just showered, my turn next then PJs on and Dancing On Ice later. It's been a lovely day 💞

ghostyslovesheets · 10/03/2024 17:04

I had a lovely chat with my mum, had lovely cards from my girls and took dd3 to lunch. She's my youngest at 15 and usually we all go out together to eat and her big sisters talk a lot - so it was just lovely to share some quality time with her being grownups and talking about life.

Teenangels · 10/03/2024 17:08

I am a little hungover, we all went to Twickenham yesterday to watch the Rugby, and stayed up there for the night.

We came home this morning.

My daughters were at friends 18th Birthday party, so they did not surface until lunchtime.

I took the dogs for an morning walk, I have flowers from them all and we are going to eat out tonight, all the kids and their partners and boyfriend/girlfriends

Redglitter · 10/03/2024 17:10

I'm not a Mum but my Mum says she's had a lovely day. My SIL is being treated to afternoon tea by my nieces so while they're doing that my Brother & I went to Mums. We both took presents & we just had coffee & cake & chatted. It's very very rare that Mum gets to spend time with just the 2 of us so she said she just loved it.

There were presents but no big flash presents or expensive meal out needed, just the gift of time, something you appreciate a lot more as you get older

Nishky32 · 10/03/2024 17:11

@Pippa246 just wanted to say I was really moved by your post and wish you all the best

Shortkiwi · 10/03/2024 17:12

Had a lovely day so far. I went to visit my 92 year old Mum who is in good health. I received beautiful flowers and cards from my adult children. My eldest daughter also came to Mum’s with her baby so we had 3 mums together.

whengodwasarabbit1 · 10/03/2024 17:12

I had a walk with my toddler and older dd and nobody moaned and we had fun and the sun came out!
