There are always so many disappointed Mother's day threads, I wanted to create a positive one.

I'm having an amazing day because:

I was able to snuggle with my young dcs in bed this morning.

Dh brought me a coffee up, and the dcs drinks, which we drank in bed together. We played, laughed, and cuddled.

DH made dc's breakfast. I could hear dc1 complaining about "daddy's fried egg" and how it wasn't "Mummy's poachies." He ended up enjoying said eggs. All of the chatter brought a smile to my face.

I could hear their little voices downstairs, writing my cards out, and saying not finished, need to write or colour this, etc. They excitedly came upstairs to give me them, my 4 year old, so proud of his scribbles all over the card he chose. My other dc who is on the spectrum wrote it all out himself without prompting, was able to say happy mother's day, be upbeat etc, without being overwhelmed ( he hasn't been like that before, as usually hates any fuss). I was so touched and proud of him.

The cards meant the world, but on top of it, they proudly presented me with an M&S "Big Daddy" bar. This is a beast of a chocolate bar, like something Willy Wonka has made. I mean, come on, what is better than that??

I am currently lying in bed with a cup of tea, about to have a bath, with salts, and my new towelling robe dh got earlier in the week. I'm recently bereaved, so I had been a bit down.

What more could I ask for? I have a beautiful family. We're imperfectly perfect, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Anyway, I would love to hear why today is amazing for you, too.

Youngest children have been fighting non stop, we have been up since 5.25am. can't wait for them to be in bed so my day of "relaxation" can begin..... counting down right now....

LightSpeeds · 10/03/2024 17:17

I received a fantastic box of chocs and, apart from putting the bins out, I'm kicking back and relaxing for the WHOLE day (with no massive to-do list)!

whatsinanameeh · 10/03/2024 17:27

...because my 12 year old made his own card on the computer and he said to a mum who works so hard for me and for others...

I've recently went full time in a job supporting vulnerable people with crises and it's been stressfull
For me and a big change at home for us all (I was part time low stress job for many years)

He's autistic himself and I didn't think he was generally
Noticing and listening

But he was

I have never felt so recognised in my whole life

He ate most of my Maltesers but I overlooked this because my eyes were blurry

Ninahaen · 10/03/2024 17:27

Had a lovely afternoon tea with my mum, husband and son.

DS brought me breakfast in bed. And bought me fancy tea and a new teapot

JoanCandy · 10/03/2024 17:30

I've had the best one as my 22 yo DD with MLD took me out for breakfast this morning (it's just the two of us, I've no partner and DD's dad hasn't bothered with her for years). We chatted away as we ate, I could tell she was feeling pleased with herself and she even said we should do it more often. This is massive for me ... I'm so happy :)

Oblomov24 · 10/03/2024 17:32

Having a lovely time. Card each from ds's and a bar of nut chocolate. FaceTime call from ds1 at uni. Watched ds2 play football, watching football on tv, just had some prawn cocktail. Lovely.

HollyKnight · 10/03/2024 17:35

Mine gave me my favourite Easter egg 😆We'll have a takeaway later while watching a family-friendly movie, then when they go to bed, DH and I will stick on a horror and get stuck into the wine and UPF.

mydogisthebest · 10/03/2024 17:35

My two lovely dogs got me a card to the best mummy, a lovely bunch of flowers and some chocolate.

DH took me out for afternoon tea. He knows today is difficult for me as I lost my mum 2 years ago and wanted to do something nice for me

DuckonaBike · 10/03/2024 17:36

What a nice idea for a thread!

In our family we don’t usually do Mother’s Day at all but this year my teen DC decided to buy me flowers, which was lovely.

I spent the afternoon doing an activity with DD1 (planned ages ago, we hadn’t twigged that it would be Mother’s Day) which was fun.

laddersandsnakes12 · 10/03/2024 17:37

My husband is currently working away for a couple of weeks, and we also live abroad in a country that doesn't do Mother's Day until May, so I didn't even know it was Mothers Day until I I looked at Instagram earlier! We'll celebrate it in May for this countries MD, but today I've got a friend coming over with her son, I'm doing a lunch for us all and the kids are going to play and run around in the garden while us two catch up. Had a clean up of the kitchen and living room, prepped some food, now just enjoying a cup of coffee and reading while my son builds Lego and we wait for our friends to come along. Maybe not a proper Mothers Day celebration, but a lovely Sunday spent with a good friend and fellow mum.

I’ve been taken out for lunch by my adult dcs. They have all bought me cards and spoilt me with with luxury make up.
Was lovely spending the day with them.
We also took my mum and my dcs bought her cards too.

Bellaphant · 10/03/2024 17:39

Croissants in bed, my husband and my four year old walked to the shop at 7am so I could wake up to flowers, my family talk at church went well, I made bacon sandwiches with nice bread for lunch, had a nap, giving the kids a shift at the soft play before home for baths for everyone. Dd made me a lovely gift at the childminders and my boy walked with me round Lidl yesterday and picked wine, coffee and oranges for my present.

Haven't seen my mum as our wall was cancelled because of the rain, but I saw her yesterday and she's spent the afternoon with my craft presents. Very happy.

PermanentTemporary · 10/03/2024 17:43

Lovely thread 💐

I saw my mum this morning in her nursing home and she was chattier than she has been for over a year. Successful flowers, she was pleased.

Then a very chilled afternoon at home which was all i wanted tbh. Ds says he's sent a card which I guess will turn up tomorrow, that will be nice. I'm watching what I want on telly and I'm not cooking Smile

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 10/03/2024 17:44

Love this! So many bad threads on here I feel guilty! My DD 11 brought me breakfast in bed (fruit ryvita and cream cheese) very thoughtful as I'm doing slimming world. A card and my gifts, 3 she had made herself. DH and she went to pick up some flowers for me then I went off to the gym. I'd done some housework yesterday so DH finished it off. Then we went out for a lovely lunch. Now he's gone to rehearsal with his band and DD and I are chilling. She wants to make cookies with me and run me a bath later xx

Sunshinedayscomeon · 10/03/2024 17:46

My son is alive and hopefully will recover, I truly learnt by nearly losing my son how privileged it is to be a mum and how fragile our children are.

So, today I've celebrated having amazing DS and DD - and the people they have become.

Chocolate also helps.

We celebrate Mother's Day even though we have cats not kids.

It's a tradition we started after failed IVF and I know some people will sneer, but it's made a tough day quite a fun and special one.

So I've had a cup of tea in bed and a beautiful card!
My husband writes different messages from all 3 cats 😹

And I've got Squashies and Doritos and we are going to watch a movie tonight and it's a day where I feel super appreciated for everything I do for the household.

I feel really lucky that although my life didn't turn out as expected, we still find ways to celebrate and make it lovely.

I love this! ❤️ Hope you had a love filled day.

ShinyBandana · 10/03/2024 17:56

I’ve just had an afternoon nap while DH cleared up the kitchen devastation from lunch with my parents.

I had a lovely morning with a lie in, cards and flowers from the kids and breakfast in bed, then an enjoyable time cooking the lunch - trying out new recipes from a Lebanese cookbook which I enjoyed and it was nice to make something new and special for my mum.

We had a couple of bottles of Prosecco - hence the nap

roundtable · 10/03/2024 17:59

I've had a lovely day. Still the occasional dc argument as standard but lots of fun and laughter. Got to go to the gym with dh this morning and a long bath to soak muscles afterwards. Bit of a delay to our roast dinner as dh gets in a tizzy when it's times like this as he likes everything to be just right but watching a film and hopefully a game later if everyone isn't in a food coma!

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 10/03/2024 18:01

One of the little lads at Church picked me as the first person he gave daffodils too after his own mum.

My DC gave me a card with stupid messages in which made me laugh. And they are cooking tonight.

My niece sent me a lovely voice note singing "Happy Mother's Day to you" for me. (Tune of happy birthday).

mambojambodothetango · 10/03/2024 18:05

Received a card, my favourite chocolates and a cup of tea in bed. Watched DS play football. Had lunch cooked by MIL. Now sitting by fire with cat. Missing my Mum (not so great).

pupppypaw · 10/03/2024 18:08

DH is making a roast today, DS15 is sat next to me watching my choice of TV and the handmade gifts i requested in lieu of them spending money they gave me are amazing and they took time and effort to make them

Globules · 10/03/2024 15:39

In the nicest possible way, what on earth are you doing thinking cheese on toast is a breakfast food? 🤣

I don’t really, but my 4 year old was desperate to make me cheese on toast as yesterday I said to him as we were talking about food we like, I haven’t had cheese on toast for a while, so he told his Dad I really needed to have cheese on toast for breakfast!! Which was very sweet.

mrstnov13 · 10/03/2024 18:10

Missing my Mum today. It's been 10 years since she died but my day has been lovely. Received a surprise bunch of flowers from DH. My two DD's, 7 & 10, brought me breakfast in bed- nutella on toast, tea and a bowl full of Raspberries. I was presented with cards they had made at school as well as a candle and a cuddly toy they had each picked from the supermarket. We then went swimming and had lunch at a local garden centre. Currently enjoying tea and biscuits whilst watching Disneys Brave with my girls. DH is cooking a roast. Life is good.

TillieAnn1945 · 10/03/2024 18:12

Eldest ds who moved 4 hours away recently sent me a lovely gift and phoned me this morning. Youngest ds working all day but text to tell me he loves me so much. ExH messaged to say you're an amazing mum to our dc. And I finished some redecorating I've been doing. 😊

FloweryFlump · 10/03/2024 18:13

My DH bought me some thoughtful gifts, DS made a lovely card. We've all chilled out today not doing much but having some games together chatting and watching TV. DH is making scones now. It's been really low key and lovely
