There are always so many disappointed Mother's day threads, I wanted to create a positive one.

I'm having an amazing day because:

I was able to snuggle with my young dcs in bed this morning.

Dh brought me a coffee up, and the dcs drinks, which we drank in bed together. We played, laughed, and cuddled.

DH made dc's breakfast. I could hear dc1 complaining about "daddy's fried egg" and how it wasn't "Mummy's poachies." He ended up enjoying said eggs. All of the chatter brought a smile to my face.

I could hear their little voices downstairs, writing my cards out, and saying not finished, need to write or colour this, etc. They excitedly came upstairs to give me them, my 4 year old, so proud of his scribbles all over the card he chose. My other dc who is on the spectrum wrote it all out himself without prompting, was able to say happy mother's day, be upbeat etc, without being overwhelmed ( he hasn't been like that before, as usually hates any fuss). I was so touched and proud of him.

The cards meant the world, but on top of it, they proudly presented me with an M&S "Big Daddy" bar. This is a beast of a chocolate bar, like something Willy Wonka has made. I mean, come on, what is better than that??

I am currently lying in bed with a cup of tea, about to have a bath, with salts, and my new towelling robe dh got earlier in the week. I'm recently bereaved, so I had been a bit down.

What more could I ask for? I have a beautiful family. We're imperfectly perfect, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Anyway, I would love to hear why today is amazing for you, too.

Aw this is a nice thread!

my brother and I took my mum out last night for a very fancy dinner because she’s had a hellish year and has been an incredible support to my dad through mental and physical health problems and she damn well deserves to be spoilt

I woke up to the sounds of a million teenagers and we impromptuly had extras staying over last night and it makes me happy my DC have such lovely friends and that those friends like being in our home

We’ve had a difficult start to the year with DS but both children gave me very thoughtful hand made cards and little extras they’d just seen and thought of me, otherwise pretty chill and that’s just nice too. My eldest is 15 so I’m starting to panic about the nest emptying in the next 5years or so!

but what’s really made my day is my own mum gave me a card that has made me weep what’s she’s put in it because I worry all the time I’m not good enough for my own DC and doing everything wrong - especially with aforementioned issues with DS - and she was just beyond kind

oh and my dog bloody loves me and shows I constantly which is nice whenever everybody else is in a foul mood

chill out @Stonehill you know exactly what you’re doing with your sanctimonious tone, take your judgement elsewhere

my husband and kids cleaned the house from
top to bottom this morning then took me out for a lovely carvery lunch with lots of chat and laughs. Dh is off now to do the weeks shopping and im snuggled on the couch in front of a roaring fire, feeling very blessed

SpryAmberSeal · 10/03/2024 15:56

My autistic 16yo gave me a card with the most lovely message in it saying how he thinks I'm the best mum and always have his back. He is a teen of few words and sometimes I'm not sure if I'm just a bit of an irritant to him so seeing what he wrote and knowing he wouldn't have written it if he didn't mean it was so lovely 😭

Prinnny · 10/03/2024 15:57

Because…my husband has finally started ADHD meds and is like a new man, I got a lovely card from DD, my favourite wine, been out for a lovely lunch and now having snuggles with my babies, feeling very blessed!

Doyouthinktheyknow · 10/03/2024 15:57

My adult sons both sent me a card and DH and I went out for lunch. It’s been lovely.

I don’t expect or want much for Mother’s Day, having the day off is a treat in itself after years of weekend working.

ooooohnoooooo · 10/03/2024 15:58

My DD booked a lovely place for lunch and put aside her huge anxiety and managed to go out.

My DS travelled 4 hours (last part on a bike in no jacket in the pouring rain) to come for lunch.

And managed a 1 hour call with siblings to my mum too.

A day filled with love, just as it should be. I'm so lucky and appreciate and cherish every drop.

Bbq1 · 10/03/2024 15:58

I had a lie in before my 18 year old ds bought me a tea in bed. He then presented me with three really thoughtful, wonderful gifts and a lovely card. I have been given lots of hugs and kisses (he normally does that anyway❤️) We both then went to visit my lovely mum for a couple of hours, taking our cards and gifts for her. While there, we enjoyed tea and cake. Having a lovely roast for tea.
I love my son so much, he's amazing and I feel so lucky to be his mum.

Have a great day everyone.

WhatFlavourIsIt · 10/03/2024 15:58

Happy Mother's day!. Yesterday my daughter took me for a mani/ pedi. Last night, we had all the kids over for takeaway and drinks. I got some lovely gifts ( well-done kids). Today, they all have plans or work, Dh is golfing, so I'm having some prosecco & Netflixing. Perfect

Fannyfiggs · 10/03/2024 15:59

My cats got me a lovely card, a box of 48 Reese's peanut butter eggs (yes, 48!!!) and I won tenner on a scratch card they got me.

I think they may have gotten some help in buying my things 🤣

GN637 · 10/03/2024 15:54

@Globules I used to eat cheese on toast for breakfast for most of my first year at uni.

Then you're a wrongun too

MillshakePickle · 10/03/2024 16:01

Usually would just have a coffee and card in bed.

This year all four of us had breakfast and cuddles in our bed after dc1 made their first cooked breakfast for us. The baby was extra giggly and has completed our little family.

I was then told to get up and ready we were heading out. Had a gorgeous country walk, cream tea. More walking and then a fabulous Sunday roast at a pub we've wanted to try for ages. On the way home, had a coffee bought for me and now having said coffee while h looks after the kids and I have some time to lounge child free. H organised everything and dc1 kept the secret.

Feeling extra loved and appreciated today. And like I don't need another calorie for the rest of the week.

thecatsthecats · 10/03/2024 16:02

My husband was smart enough to get me daffodil bulbs rather than cut flowers without being told.

He took my son (who only woke up twice in the night), so I only woke up after his first nap was finished.

After presents (whisky), we went for a long wet walk in the rain whilst my son slept through the stop at the pub.

ILs coming round shortly for a brief visit after we skived the big family party.

Dancingqueen2023 · 10/03/2024 16:02

Ds8 came in with his notebook and took my order for breakfast in bed. Probably more like an all you can eat buffet but very sweet. I saw a dress weeks ago in the sales but when I went back it had gone in my size, ds and DP spent weeks going around the Tesco's to find it for me along with flowers and a card.
After checking with me that it was ok dp is cooking the meal that I would have had with my mum.
It's been a very relaxing day including a little snooze on the sofa

HalebiHabibti · 10/03/2024 16:03

I got 2 hand drawn cards with very individual messages ("I am legally obliged to give you this card"), some chocolate, some flowers from the garden and a new herbal tea. We then went for a short walk where the children didn't complain too much and actually chatted a bit. We will get a takeaway for dinner. It has been great :)

ObliviousCoalmine · 10/03/2024 16:05

Had a nice lunch yesterday with mum, sister and daughter. Coffee out this morning with daughter. Day alone pottering until she comes home later. She wrote me a nice note and bought me a bar of chocolate with her own money as a surprise 😊

Sparetoes · 10/03/2024 16:05

Because I've got on with having a nice day, without expecting anyone else to make it so.

I got up early and did a long run with friends, then went for breakfast. DS1 gave me wine and flowers when I got in before going to work, then I went to take my mum a card and have a cuppa. DS2 is at work, but did buy the drinks when we went out together on Thursday.

Now I shall do the ironing and be glad it's done, before doing dinner and settling down with a film 🙂

orangeleopard · 10/03/2024 16:07

My mum brought me some beautiful plants on behalf of my son. I’m a crazy plant lady and my mum is fantastic and does occasions instead of my son’s dad, for that I’m very grateful. I’ve also done the cleaning and ironing in preparation for tomorrow so I’ve ordered a takeaway and I can relax for the rest of the night!

BigDogEnergy · 10/03/2024 16:08

My developmentally delayed 5 year old wrote his name in the card himself 🥰

Scubanicki · 10/03/2024 16:09

I went for a very wet ride around the village while my daughter mucked out and sorted her pony. She didn't want to ride in the rain!. Then have had a snooze on the sofa, which I never do! Saw my mum earlier and hubby is cooking a roast for dinner.

AreYouShittingMe · 10/03/2024 16:11

First Mother's Day with my DS1 living in a different city. DS2 stepped up to the plate and brought me a cup of tea in bed ( he really isn't a morning person so this was a big deal). Two lovely cards from the DC's and lunch with my Mum. Just feeling grateful to be able to have the DS's, and my Mum still around.

Marveladdict · 10/03/2024 16:11

Aw these are making me cry
Had a lovely morning with cuddles in bed with my DS2 - he slept in our bed last night as he wouldn’t settle and I think he had a nightmare this morning as he started crying - I put my hand on him and he came over and gave me a big hug
got a card and some flowers from him (my DH helped) and had a lovely roast dinner

Wantstobeontv · 10/03/2024 16:15

My two older teen DC each gave me a card with the loveliest messages. It genuinely means so much. Overall, they're great people and make me proud almost every day 😉youngest and most slobbish DC made a point of tidying and cleaning his room to perfection yesterday, which is far better than any bunch of flowers!

UnimaginableWindBird · 10/03/2024 16:16

My mum is making progress in her recovery from the very risky surgery she had last week.

I am full of tea and scones and my children are delightful.

MrsJellybee · 10/03/2024 16:19

I got up at the crack of dawn to take my daughter to her swimming lesson. I never thought I would be a mother. Every day I am amazed I have her and it is a privilege to get up early for her even on Mother’s Day. This was enough for me.

Came home and DH and DD excitedly asked me to open / look at my gifts. DD gave me a loom-band bracelet in my favourite colours, a homemade necklace which spelled MOM, and a hand-drawn picture of the Colosseum because ‘I know you love Italy’ (DD is nine). She then gave me her card. DH then gave me with a book he knew I would love, and told me we’re having a takeaway later.

Bloody amazing. Love ‘em.

Elsewhere123 · 10/03/2024 16:22

Been swimming in the sea with the sons (30s now) then back home for brunch, all cooked in oven using the timer ( finally worked out how to set it).
