Posters you still think about

Helfs · 10/03/2024 13:17

Proof I probably spend too much time on here but does anyone else have posters they still think about every now and again?

Mine is the Australian poster whose son was in the abusive relationship and her many threads about helping him get out of the relationship and realizing she was toxic.

Can’t find the threads at all now but I hope her and her son are still doing well!

Does anyone else have stand out posters or threads that stick in their minds?

Somerville: who was widowed then met a lovely new man and fell in love and married.
She was the most beautiful writer and it was a beautiful story.

LaQueen: because the boasting used to make me cringe so hard.

A very old and personal one: Quootiepie. She was very young and sweet with a shitty husband.

Somerville was wonderful and it was a beautiful story.

I also loved RunningIntheRain, she wrote brilliantly.

Temuaddiction · 10/03/2024 20:14

Usually the ones about women wanting to leave their abusive partner I always wonder if they did

daisychain01 · 10/03/2024 20:16

I think the poster's full name was @OddSocksHighHeels if I remember correctly.

I remember the thread where she was having to live on a bus due to being homeless which was very sad.

I remember CatthiefKeith. So sad.
And, the woman who veeted her baby, the woman who's neighbours had a summer house built next to her fence and then rented it out.

Bleberry · 10/03/2024 20:16

The one about the woman whose neighbour built their own door to access her private garden (I think), she had a Spanish Granny and the thread went on for quite a while.

Once got a pasting from AF in her trademark blasée style. Swiftly cheered on by her groupies. People have even started threads dedicated to praising her, I could never see it myself. Then the lockdown post about “ I’m missing my second home dreadfully” , that was the cherry on the cake.

I remember when she was banned. Much weeping and wailing until she was reinstated.

Dotty2dot · 10/03/2024 13:24

None really. I don't tend to get emotionally involved with randoms on the internet. Especially MN which is full of troll threads.

Oh just bore off with making mumsnet shit and negative all the time. You must be a joy in real life shutting down every conversation with your superiority

2ndMrsdeWinter · 10/03/2024 20:20

the lady who moved to a house in a village and encountered many strange happenings at the property. Eventually she was led to believe the locals were unhappy with her presence and were trying to intimidate her. Excellent writing style - I was most disappointed when she stopped posting.

tothelefttotheleft · 10/03/2024 20:22

Also @Portofino. I haven't seen them post for a while.

WhatACluster · 10/03/2024 20:23

EatShitDerek I still think about that poster 🤣

Considering all the thanks I got for that post, I'm not the only one.

daisychain01 · 10/03/2024 20:23

There was another MN love story about the woman who fell in love with her gardener. That was lovely! I wonder if they ended up together.

there was also the non-MN love story where a poster used to post about her partner every year at Christmas. One year she said he went to his folks (without her) and fitted her in on 29th Dec. Another year he did something equally dickish, he was dreadful, and everyone kept asking he why oh why was she still with him. She kept popping back up every few days with another litany of issues asking for advice on what to do, but never took it.

the other one I remember vaguely was the poster who was in love with a bloke who wasn't that into her - the main thing I remember was that she had a book of poetry that she was going to give him - or maybe it was the other way round. Sorry a bit rambling!

MissAmbrosia · 10/03/2024 20:25

BitofFun - miss her so much! On here, never see Chaos any more - she was fab. GetOrfMyLand - also gorgeous in real life. And a poster last seen in NL with a hot postman called YumYumFrankie, but my menopausal brain has forgotten her name.

sonicmum2002 · 10/03/2024 20:27

Likewise, I often think of Pamela and her son Jacob and husband Kerr. Hope they are OK.

I once posted the Al Anon phone number for an OP who was caught right up in her DP's alcoholism. She did ring Al Anon for support and I wonder how she is getting on.

CogitoErgoSum (or something similar) who was on the Relationships board. Always sound advice.

I was just reading through looking for this name! Yes. Helped me so much.

also theformidablemrsc who is still very much around and whose threads on her awful divorce were my bible during mine.

Sbishka · 10/03/2024 20:28

This thread made me realise I first posted on MN in 2004!
I was just thinking about the old breast/bottle threads the other day - I couldn't breastfeed and it was all a LOT. My kid has not seen a doctor for 14 years, he is so healthy. Even then it was molluscum and not damaged immunity or faulty intelligence or any of the other things we'd get trolled about. (I realise they probably ought to go just for a check-up or something, it's just we've never needed anything!)

There was a poster and I think he was called UnquietDad? He was a writer and absolutely rinsed the MN boards in those days for material for his novels. I read one of them and he'd nicked one of my anecdotes. It was very recognisable. I am not going to criticise him too much because I now write novels and am about to recycle it in my own work.

Countrylife2002 · 10/03/2024 20:29

Anyfucker is still around I’m sure. Also helped me in leaving my abusive ex twat.

Topicmanger · 10/03/2024 13:58

I never got the love for Bluntness, she could be pretty unpleasant.

She seemed to disappear after she ghosted another poster, who she had befriended, and that ghosted poster began to start threads saying things like, 'Bluntness, my love, where are you? I miss you!'

That's enough to make anyone disappear

Emotionalsupportviper · 10/03/2024 20:29

TwittleBee · 10/03/2024 19:58

@Emotionalsupportviper Most of it we have got back but unfortunately the part that got built on we are still contesting. Council don't care that something has been built without planning permission there at all and our legal advice hasn't been great either. At a dead end, especially as its getting too costly now really.

I'm so sorry to hear that.

I can't understand how this can even happen - IIRC they put up a fence illegally, but you weren't legally able to take it down . . . the building on it sounds the same, and as you say the costs in these dispute quickly become prohibitive. Hadn't you just had/ were about to ahveababy, too?

I am furious on your behalf - I wanted to burn down the fence and your XXXXing neighbour with it!

(I have never had a wood, and never will, but it is my dream and I felt very defensive of you.)

Barbadossunset · 10/03/2024 20:10

I think Oddsocks or similar name going round on the night bus as she was homeless..

I remember a poster with a name like Oddsocks who was a nurse and a hunt saboteur.
Also Seeker/BertrandRussell who was strongly opposed to private education and posted on virtually every education thread.
Years ago I remember theincrediblesteamingnit who used to get quite cross if anyone disagreed with her.

The night bus Oddsocks was a homeless sex worker. Went to MN meetups. Stayed on a Mumsnetter's sofa and had to be encouraged to leave after outstaying her welcome.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 10/03/2024 20:32

I often think about EdgarAleAndPie after the loss of her little boy Leo - over 10 years ago now.

I think she was the recipient of the first mumsnet blanket?

boydoggies · 10/03/2024 20:36

I rather liked reading things that @Lweji wrote about. I remember a thread to do with worms (no pun intended) that put me off fish for quite some time!

Countrylife2002 · 10/03/2024 20:36

wizzler · 10/03/2024 18:54

I remember Rivens threads : life was so tough for her and as I recall it just kept getting harder as policies changed

Expatinscotland, I remember praying for her Dd

Blondeshavemorefun was someone who was always on the same threads as me about 10- 12 years ago and I always thought I would get on with

I think it was Tinydancer who had the bridezills thread that had us all howling

Blondes is very much still around on the tv threads and also the premium bond one

I actually agree with Dotty. I think you need to keep your smarts on mn. I don’t see mn on those sepia tones of everything is super posters are all lovely.
