Alternative gift to Easter Eggs

Kids get so many chocolate eggs at Easter! I'd like to get GC and friends son something a little different as a token gift, rather than overloading them with chocolate and sweets.

Help me with ideas please 🙏

I noticed that the works were doing Easter themed craft packs, perhaps something like that would be an idea.

What about an egg decorating set? Maybe one that's also a piggy bank and you could pop £5 inside?

Assuming they’re Christian’s, they’ll have them already. If they’re not, a terrible idea.

Trip to a farm park to see the lambs, chicks etc?

Bubbles, bouncy balls, slinkies or colouring sets! (With a small chocolate bar!)

@Hakunatomato how about not trying to indoctrinate children?

We always used to get a little outside toy, to signal warmer days were coming! So a bat and ball set, skipping rope...one magical year I got roller skates, but that was an anomaly involving indulgent grandparents I think (rather than the Easter Bunny!)

To be fair, Easter is a Christian festival so it is reasonable to assume that they might be appropriate gifts.

If they’re not Christian, why are they celebrating/commemorating Easter? Many Christians I know have more than one bible or prayer book. It’s just another date that the retailers try and pressure people to buy tat and get to make more money….

Because Easter is about spring, new life and fertility. It’s been celebrated since way before the story of JC. For children, it’s family gathering, bunnies, chicks and chocolate eggs.
Surely that doesn’t come as a surprise to you?

Buy them some seeds. That fits in with Easter/Spring birth/re-birth.

And? She is asking for other options because she rather give something other than chocolate knowing the kids will get it anyway. Why should she have to add more to it when there are other options?

In Australia it's very normal to give pyjamas and slippers for Easter (the weather is starting to cool down).

As a kid my grandmother always gave me a book token which I loved.

That's really interesting. I've learnt a new cultural thing today.

Our youngest (1 year old) has a dairy and soy allergy so we’re really trying to move away from Easter being all about chocolate (we’re also not religious but it’s a nice break time wise between their birthdays and Christmas so we like to get them useful gifts)

this year we’ve got them some books (second hand from charity shops - oldest is Star Wars obsessed so he really wanted some new Star Wars books and youngest loves books so could do with a refresh)

we’ve also got them new bedding (they needed it anyway but we got it based on their likes (again oldest is Star Wars obsessed so he will be absolutely thrilled over Star Wars bedding)

Also backpacks (from Vinted for less than £5) as they need them for swimming lessons

also some craft bits (just cheap stuff from home bargains) because they’re nearly out.

In the past we’ve also got them new wellies, or swimming things ready for the summer, or outdoor activities like pavement chalk etc. basically useful stuff we probably would have got anyway but made special to be tailored to their interests.

Animal or chick themed egg cups. My dc loved them as kids. We still have them

I got my Godchild a novel with an Easter theme and a plant pot and some bulbs as she loves helping her Granddad in his garden.

If they're sufficiently religious to appreciate those things, they'll have several already. A bible or prayer book would be fine for a christening or confirmation but it's not an Easter present.

OP, it probably depends on the age of the kids, but non-chocolate options could be something like a cuddly toy rabbit or lamb, craft kits for making something spring/Easter-themed, an egg-decorating kit, a little spring/Easter themed Lego set, a seed-growing kit, something like that?

The bulbs is a nice idea. I remember getting given a pot and some sunflower seeds when I was a kid and I really enjoyed growing them!

There are Easter crafts or themed toys in just about every shop going from Poundland to the supermarkets.
Probably more of that than there is chocolate eggs.
Or get a Lego set or new book.
