Alternative gift to Easter Eggs

Kids get so many chocolate eggs at Easter! I'd like to get GC and friends son something a little different as a token gift, rather than overloading them with chocolate and sweets.

Help me with ideas please 🙏

Easter, like so many Christian festivals was arranged to tie in with existing fertility/spring festivals. WTF have eggs got to do with Jesus dying?

aynsleyredder · 05/03/2024 11:54

Playmobil do a range of eggs with toys inside (on their own website) currently buy two get one free I think

Needmorelego · 05/03/2024 12:06

@User19798 well Jesus rose again didn't he?
Eggs = new life and all that.
I think most people treat Easter as a celebration of spring.

PILs always sent a £10 book token in an Easter card for our DCs as they didn't live nearby. My parents bought Easter eggs and sometimes an 'outfit' when the DCs were small.

Perhaps a nice book on spring and the changing seasons? It depends on the age of the kids.

My cousin's DD is really into minibrands at the moment. There are kits online to make mini Easter eggs.

Also, making mini clay models is apparently a thing. So perhaps some crafting clay to make some eggs, chicks, lambs etc.

My DS is 3. He's getting a book, a small chocolate bunny and a toy car that he has been asking for.

Tisfortired · 05/03/2024 12:24

Agree the kids get far too much chocolate! We get our DC 1 Easter egg, and one small chocolate thing so eg eldest is 10 and is getting the big mini egg Easter egg and also a medium sized Lindt bunny. Youngest getting the plain dairy milk egg and a small white chocolate bunny.

I usually also then do a book each so eldest has got the new Bunny VS Monkey book (he’s 10) and youngest has a Hey Duggee Easter book. If I see some nice colouring books and colours, sticker books/activity books etc in the next couple of weeks I might pick them up.

pizzaHeart · 05/03/2024 13:18

for older kids could be spring colours/ style hair accessories for girls.
T shirts with a slogan / flowers / spring colours.

My mum always got my dc a new outfit for Easter because as a child that's what her grandmother did.

luckylavender · 05/03/2024 13:21

When DS was small he used to regularly get a pair of socks & £5 from some relatives. Always made me smile.

Favouritefruits · 05/03/2024 13:22

I’ve bought my children and my niece and nephew a bucket and space each and I’m going to put in some bubbles and water balloons maybe a little ball so they can use them throughout the summer! It helps we live by the sea so visit the beach lots!

takealettermsjones · 05/03/2024 13:24

My kids do an Easter egg hunt with small eggs at each clue, so they get those, but I don't buy them a larger Easter egg. They get a gift at the end of the egg hunt: last year it was sunhats, stickers, pompom making sets, and those Hide and Squeak egg toys for the little one.

I sometimes buy small lego sets or board games, wrap them and hide them in the garden with some mini eggs before egg hunt.

mogtheexcellent · 05/03/2024 13:41

I usually get DD a dvd. Fortunately Wonka is out this month so shes getting that.

Tempnamechng · 05/03/2024 14:41

Anything marking the reawakening of the natural world. Easter eggs are good because they symbolise fertility and the celebration of the end of Lent, but if you don't want to be pulled by the Cadbury consumerism then something to do with gardening is appropriate. New clothing is a traditional and practical Easter gift.

nimski · 05/03/2024 14:52

I've got mine Easter/bunny Squishmallows and Beanie boos before.

I think most people treat Easter as a celebration of spring.

That is very much up for debate an as an atheist I prefer to stick to hard facts with DC. Chicks hatch, lambs are born, flowers bloom and spring has sprung.

Saymyname28 · 05/03/2024 15:33

Easter crafts, baking kit or book

Lonejohny · 05/03/2024 15:48

Brightly coloured bedding plants
Spring clothes
Not teddies or books we are full to the rafters with those!

fightingthedogforadonut · 05/03/2024 16:04

My kid prefers savoury stuff to sweet stuff. Last year he asked for cheese 😂
