Alternative gift to Easter Eggs

Kids get so many chocolate eggs at Easter! I'd like to get GC and friends son something a little different as a token gift, rather than overloading them with chocolate and sweets.

Help me with ideas please 🙏

@User19798 oh I am definitely more about bunnies and chicks (and chocolate ) than the Christian side.
It's all about spring sprunging to me too 🌼

Easter-themed bath bomb or soap
Dino egg toy
book
easter themed activity book or sticker book depending on age

mathanxiety · 05/03/2024 16:49

I'm a Christian and celebrate Easter religiously.

My DCs used to love getting small 'Easter bunny' treats all the same. Stuff I remember buying over the years:
Sidewalk chalk
Little stuffed animals - bunnies, chicks
Bubbles
Stomp rockets
Candy
Rubiks cubes
Hand launched flying toys
Foam airplane kits
New beach towels
Swim goggles
Sunglasses
Fake moustaches
Marbles
Tiddley winks
Packets of markers, coloured pencils, crayons

Also:
Nail polish
Nail files
Hair stuff
Seeds for gardening
New toothbrushes all around
Little board books

When I was seven I asked for a Fighting Fantasy book instead of an Easter Egg. I’d seen it being talked about on Saturday morning TV and it looked fantastic. The Warlock of Fire Top Mountain. I’ve still got it! Nothing to do with Easter, obviously…

lolomoon · 05/03/2024 17:04

Either an experience. Like taking them or paying for them to go to a petting zoo or something for the day? Or something they can do like a craft kit? Since the Easter holidays have parents racking their brains how to occupy their kids for two weeks these would be good options to occupy some time.

Fitzbillie · 05/03/2024 22:51

@Hakunatomato the word Easter derives from the name of a pagan goddess of fertility… a spring festival celebrating renewal and fertility at Easter predates Christianity.

I gave DS a Venus flytrap a few years ago instead of loads of chocolate. He still got a little bit of chocolate.

Favouritefruits · 06/03/2024 14:43

@SilverSimca my eldest who’s 9 loves those books! I might get him one for Easter!

How about a bible, or a prayer book?

I'm sure children would be delighted

CheapThrillsMeanNothing · 06/03/2024 16:41

My mum used to let us choose a new T shirt each Easter

Redglitter · 06/03/2024 16:45

One present which became a tradition because my nieces loved it, was I bought a shoe holder, the type with pockets & a hanger to hang them up.

I filled each pocket with something. Bubbles, hair scrunchies, a card game, a packet of Haribo, a notebook, a pen.....

Every pocket had something different & I picked most things up for a couple of £s max

Dogzombie · 06/03/2024 22:23

We get ours some cheapie little toys or activity set or a game for the garden as they get so much choc from everyone else!

If they’re not Christian, why are they celebrating/commemorating Easter? Many Christians I know have more than one bible or prayer book. It’s just another date that the retailers try and pressure people to buy tat and get to make more money….

Lol. Eostre is a pagan festival, centuries before Christ was allegedly born.

MrsSkylerWhite · 07/03/2024 10:01

@phoenixrosehere

I was specifically replying to a poster who suggested a bible, not OP.

FinallyFeb · 07/03/2024 10:03

We celebrate it because it’s an excuse to celebrate, see family and friends who are off work at the same time, my kids liked chocolate eggs and because Spring, warmer weather and lighter nights feel like a good thing. I couldn’t give a fuck about it being Christian, I think all religion is bollocks. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Retailers may want people to spend but religious leaders want to control people through religion nonsense, which is worse.

Book and bookmark light
Raincoat/wellies
Lego
Yoto cards
Money
Swimming costume/towel/goggles
Some sort of plant pot seed kit

MumChp · 09/03/2024 19:59

Books
Crafting kits
Lego
Clothes
Colouring pencils
Trip to zoo, museum or amusement park

are common Easter Eggs for our children.

countrygirl99 · 09/03/2024 20:04

We got cardboard reusable eggs and put something illy they would find fun in it. One year we got DS1 fossil poo. He loved it.

Frumpitydoo · 12/03/2024 16:07

A stomp rocket as they are just The Best!

AmaryllisChorus · 12/03/2024 16:10

A cuddly toy rabbit or chick. A Lego build your own rabbit or chick. A craft paint-your-own-egg kit (if they are crafty. If not these just sit in a cupboard gathering dust.) A book about a chicken or a rabbit. Some bulbs to plant.
