That my sister was out of order and should have apologised?

I'm at my mums for Sunday lunch and sister is here with niece who is 6. My sister has let her bring her roller skates and use them in the kitchen whilst dinner is cooking and she has crashed into the dinner table and knocked a whole up of fizzy drink all over me. I now have to borrow my mums clothes or sit and eat my dinner in soaking wet clothes. She hasn't even apologised. I think she's shows a lack of respect for me or my mums home. My mum has glared at me as if to say shut up and don't say anything.

Your niece should have apologised.

SingsongSu · 03/03/2024 15:05

Sounds hilarious! 😂
You need to find yourself a sense of humour OP! And bob on one of your Mum’s dresses and hide the skates! You will laugh about this one day …

IncognitoUsername · 03/03/2024 15:05

Sister should not have allowed roller skating in the house. Niece should have said sorry, however it is just an accident and no malice was meant.

WhamBamThankU · 03/03/2024 15:07

It's your mums house, can she not say no roller skating inside?

CremeEggThief · 03/03/2024 15:09

Then tell her now instead of putting your family business all over Mumsnet.
I honestly don't understand people like you! If this happened to me in real life, getting straight on Mumsnet would be the last thing I would think of!

Are you fumming hun?

letdownchristmas · 03/03/2024 15:13

She has form for doing stuff like this such as letting niece ruin meals out my listening to YouTube at full blast, my mum thinks she can do no wrong. I have posted on here as if I bring it up in real life it will cause an argument!

Just tip some fizzy on the kid and move on

pensione · 03/03/2024 15:14

Tell your niece off. If sister doesn’t like it she can piss off home.

Wolfiefan · 03/03/2024 15:15

It is your mother’s house. If she is happy to tolerate this behaviour and you’re not then stop going when niece is there.

It’s OP who got drenched. She is perfectly within her rights to tell niece off.

You’d be singing a different tune if you got drenched.

Choked on my drink laughing at that

SheepAndSword · 03/03/2024 15:23

Your sister should have said to niece to apologise.

JJathome · 03/03/2024 15:24

Ach shes six, it was an accident, she didn’t do it on purpose. Unclench,

JJathome · 03/03/2024 15:25

sorry just reread, surely you don’t mean the 6 year old? Your own niece?

EveryOtherNameTaken · 03/03/2024 15:26

Your sister should have said to niece to apologise.

Just basic manners.

SweetFemaleAttitude · 03/03/2024 15:27

It was a cup of pop FFS. You can't be sitting there in 'soaking wet clothes' or as a pp dramatically put it. 'drenched' 😂😂

Has your mum got a hairdryer? Go and dry it off.

Niece should have apologised, but it's not a big deal is it really 🙄.

letdownchristmas · 03/03/2024 15:28

No my sister has not shown respect for my mums home as she could have broken something, never mind it's dangerous when there is food cooking.

I agree rollerskating should not happen indoors, especially around hot food being cooked! Your Mum should tell neice not to be in the kitchen and sister should too.
And yes neice should ideally have apologised but she is 6 not 10 so would have probably needed prompting.
But I do think you're being abit precious about a fizzy drink being spilt on your clothes, especially considering they are your family....I would laugh that part off.

GiantFootTinyHead · 03/03/2024 15:31

Your poor mum in the middle of this!

Have you and your sister never gotten on?
Most people would think ‘oh no, I’m a bit wet’ mop up the spill then carry on with lunch. You seem determined to create tension about it. Why is that?

britneyisfree · 03/03/2024 15:31

Stop going round when they are there. Sounds like their is a back story of your sis being golden child

professorcunning · 03/03/2024 15:32

But your mother was allowing it so there is no disrespect, unless you believe you can overrule your mother in her own home. It's annoying. The child should have apologised. Accidents do happen though.

Are you saying OP doesn’t deserve respect?

No, I’m saying most 6 year olds don’t understand the meaning of the word respect.
