That my sister was out of order and should have apologised?

I'm at my mums for Sunday lunch and sister is here with niece who is 6. My sister has let her bring her roller skates and use them in the kitchen whilst dinner is cooking and she has crashed into the dinner table and knocked a whole up of fizzy drink all over me. I now have to borrow my mums clothes or sit and eat my dinner in soaking wet clothes. She hasn't even apologised. I think she's shows a lack of respect for me or my mums home. My mum has glared at me as if to say shut up and don't say anything.

Common sense should tell both your Mum and sister that roller skates shouldn't be used inside, especially in the kitchen, when food is cooking. If your niece has crashed into the stove, and knocked a pan of hot water off, onto herself, all hell would have broken loose, and your sister probably would have blamed your Mum for allowing it!! As for knocking a jug of fizzy drink over you, yes, your niece should have apologised but at 6, it's not something she would immediately think to do, without your sister prompting her to do so. Unfortunately, this took place at your Mum's, it's her home and in all honesty, her call to lay down the boundaries and rules. If she's not willing then, there's little you can do.
