For this to be the reason for breaking contact?

I had no sleep (literally) last night so my judgement may be clouded.

I gave my brother a lift into town as he cannot drive at the moment. When there he bought a slice of pizza and a doughnut- fine. My three year old needed lunch so we went to the M & S cafe. I bought a spaghetti bolognaise for DS - small portion as for a child. I then went to change my baby’s nappy. While I was doing that, my brother reached over and took a huge helping of DS’s food, probably half his meal.

I am furious but am I overreacting?

Did you not ask him to replace it?

Whyjustwhywhy · 03/03/2024 14:50

No. Several reasons why but the main reason was because I only found out when ee left, but - and I don’t mean this rudely - this isn’t about what I did or didn’t do.

I’d be fuming. What a greedy git!

Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong · 03/03/2024 14:51

Yes, a bit. Annoyed? Absolutely. Breaking contact? Highly irrational

WhateverMate · 03/03/2024 14:53

Greedy little shit.

But for you to go no contact with him, there has to be a backstory?

I think you'd probably need to share that before anyone here can make up their minds.

LightSwerve · 03/03/2024 14:54

There must be some back story, because if you got on well you'd just bollock him and move on.

I think asking whether you said anything is a relevant question - because it might explain why you're thinking 'no contact' rather than having a chat.

Whyjustwhywhy · 03/03/2024 14:55

It’s hard to explain but it does feel like a straw breaking the camels back moment. It isn’t so much he was greedy more I’m shocked at the absolute lack of respect towards my DS.

Oh give over

going no contact over some pasta

So what were the rest of the straw moments?

SpringLobelia · 03/03/2024 15:01

I did actually go no contact with a 'friend' who ate my DSs chips. he was about 3 years old and has autism and food issues and chips were about the only thing he would eat at that time. She was a a 'friend' who had actually pushed me too far for far too long. She stole his chips literally as he was in the middle of trying to navigate them and i told her not to steal food from my child. She laughed at me and I walked out and have never spoken to her again.

It was serious last straw. Coming after a whole bunch of straws and ridicule and disrespect. If I listed them all no-one (not even anyone on MN0 would have blamed me.

missmollygreen · 03/03/2024 15:16

Very rude.
But as a stand alone incident breaking contact with a family member for eating a lasagna that was not theirs seems an over reaction

Whyjustwhywhy · 03/03/2024 15:16

I am just trying to imagine how I’d feel if I was eating my lunch and someone twice my size took it off me and helped themselves.

PinkyBlueMe · 03/03/2024 15:18

I don't understand - if you only found out when he left, how did you find out?

SharedAccountWithMySister · 03/03/2024 15:23

“Hi Bro, did you take some of DS’s lunch today in M&S”
….
”Yes”

”Why?”

Do you think I need help with speaking English, or something?

Did he actually take half your childs lunch? Presumably the 3 year old is the one who told you this happened and they're not exactly the best narrators?

Yes, he did.

My DH was there, he was the one who told me.

It really isn’t about what DH and I did wrong. Or even about the lunch. I am just a bit shocked at that level or disregard and disrespect, but I do accept I could be massively overreacting.

It sounds like the straw that broke the camels back

my sister tells people I went NC with her in a row over her using the last of the ketchup, but she ignores the 7282729 other rude things he did beforehand

So your husband sat there and allowed your brother to eat half of his childs lunch and said nothing?

Irritated for a minute and then over it. He is 3 ffs, it's forgotten already.

Nchanged89 · 03/03/2024 15:55

How old is your brother?

WhateverMate · 03/03/2024 15:57

Oh my God and there's the drip-feed of the century.

Your husband was there and did precisely fuck all?

That poor kid.

I was just about to ask this too. So your DH was sat at the same table as your toddler and brother and your brother snaffled half of your child’s lunch while you were changing the baby? Any normal parent would have said something. How odd your DH didn’t.

I genuinely don’t know why that’s a drip feed. I think DH was a bit like ‘wtf’. I mean, what SHOULD he have done?
