Are leggings really comfy?

If they were genuinely comfy then why wouldn't men wear them?

If they were genuinely comfy then why wouldn't men wear them?

In London lots of men wear them with shorts on top as a sort of “I ‘ve just done a workout look”.

EricaJohns · 01/03/2024 16:00

They look so silly, like her bum is a vacuum and it's sucking the leggings in.

I can't imagine any man signing up to wear them... Though I'm sure plenty of men like how they look..

goodnessmeits2024 · 01/03/2024 17:19

Yes, exceptionally comfy.

If men wore them it would be the equivalent of women wearing a skin tight top showing every contour of the breasts.

Possible to wear, yes, but probably not polite.

@SpryAmberSeal my absolute favourite pair are from the Aldi aisle of randomness and I keep looking in hope of finding some more - lovely thick fabric and super comfy. These are good too: https://www.trespass.com/zada-womens-yoga-pants though they don't seem to have many sizes left.

I have a few, but I never reach for them first. They need to be tight enough to stay in place (always seem to be shifting lower than I want them and needing to be hoicked back up), yet not so tight that they are uncomfortable. I find joggers much nicer to wear, and I don't feel nearly nude in them, like I do in leggings. I don't feel properly dressed for social interaction in anything more relaxed than jeans, unfortunately, so joggers and leggings are for around the home/garden only. I suppose if I went to a gym I'd wear them there, too. I don't care if my clothing is feminist or not; one less thing to worry about! 😆

User19798 · 01/03/2024 20:42

DH wears them between Nov and March - they are called 'long johns' and he wears trousers over them outside the house but has been known to have leggings 'pose downs' with DD and I in the house. He was a fitness model for 10 years so I enjoy him in them very very much 😂

Tooshyshy78 · 01/03/2024 21:17

I’ve got comfy ones (cotton supermarket brand) that I like to wear when I feel a bit bloated from eating loads or period or whatever. Apart from that I don’t wear them anymore. I occasionally wear them instead of tights under long dresses as I hate the feel of tights.

TunnocksOrDeath · 01/03/2024 21:33

Met my DH and most our our male friends doing sport that basically requires them to train in leggings from October through to March most years. They all happily head off for coffee or whatever in their kit. Can't see the issue myself, and he's got a lovely bum.

Soowoo · 01/03/2024 22:02

I find leggings very comfy - and pretty much live in them to be honest. As to why men don’t wear them, if they’re so comfy, they actually did wear something very similar to leggings for hundreds of years. Hose were an essential part of men’s clothing from the 14th to the 17th centuries - when they were replaced by “roomier” breeches. Perhaps hose are due a resurgence?

Cosyblankets · 01/03/2024 22:05

Anti feminist?
Sorry? What?

Vonesk · 02/03/2024 13:30

Legging are just footless tights.
Theyre disgusting and slightly see through.
I dont know how our society has got to this totally sexualisation of womens clothing.
Everyone is now desensitised to nudity in public spaces.
Some are now wearing ' see through' skin coloured leggings. = Basically' tights and no skirt' Appalling,!!!!!!

They really aren’t, unless you buy cheap ones from Primark. Decent leggings are thick with a wide waistband and very comfy, I wear them for exercise classes, running and with a long top for daytime wear, hardly in any way sexy.

lifebeginsaftercoffee · 02/03/2024 13:40

Legging are just footless tights.

They're really not.

motheronthedancefloor · 02/03/2024 13:54

Probably already been said, but why not ask Isla Bryson?

Voice0fReason · 02/03/2024 14:49

I have footless tights and I have leggings. They are completely different.

I love my leggings, I wear them loads. The furry lined ones are so warm in the winter.

Anti-feminist my arse!

Men and women have different bodies which is part of the reason we don't wear the same clothes. Convention is part of that too.

AngeloMysterioso · 02/03/2024 15:27

I’m more of a wide leg sweatpants girl myself but I will occasionally wear leggings at home. Very rarely out and about though, and only if I’ve got an oversized sweater or long cardi or something covering my bum. I feel a bit naked otherwise.

PoweredByFairydust · 02/03/2024 16:57

I LOVE leggings, the comfort is incomparable to jeans. I buy the cheap ones from primark or even the pep&co Poundland ones from primark. My usual day to day outfit is this (this is what I'm wearing today) with Ugg boots, trainers in spring.

I have loads of tops this length that I wear with leggings like this, and t shirts the same length when it's a bit warmer.
I'll wear this for round the house, shopping, and baby groups, and to and from work. I would maybe wear jeans for a day out or meeting friends but would change into joggers when I got home!

I don't think I'm your typical Mumsnet user by the sound of things haha!

I meant the pep & co ones from Poundland obviously not from primark 🤦🏼‍♀️

WestwardHo1 · 02/03/2024 17:00

Judging by the sniggering that male ballet dancers cause, I don't blame men for not wearing them 😁

My OH wears them for running. It looks fairly indecent to be honest!

CurlewKate · 02/03/2024 17:45

My ds has to wear them sometimes- he finds them uncomfortable and embarrassing. Anatomy innit?

Bamboobzled · 02/03/2024 19:19

fuckityfuckityfuckfuck · 01/03/2024 00:04

There's legging and there's leggings. My primark cheap type leggings are for slobbing around. My next price rung up from sports direct leggings are for the gym (I am in noooo way a gym bunny and they are purely for ease of movement). Then my branded top tier work leggings (relevant to my job) are super comfy, warm and make my arse look like it's still 20!

I need to know where these top tier branded leggings are from!

You've tried the wrong leggings then if you think they are see through footless tights? Mine certainly aren't.

Meagainnewname · 02/03/2024 20:56

Don’t like leggings or skinny jeans with shoes or trainers, they’re slightly better with boots!
I think it looks ridiculous when people have really skinny legs and then big feet at the end of them 🤣

Gowlett · 02/03/2024 21:01

I’d wear them at home doing the housework, or to bed.
wouldn’t leave the house in them. Same with Ugg boots.
The only people who look good in those sports leggings / yoga pants are those blonde swishy pony tail young women. As for leather-look leggings, no. Jeggings are okay-ish, I think.
