Are leggings really comfy?

If they were genuinely comfy then why wouldn't men wear them?

Beleive me when men wear them it;'s not a pleasant experience to the beholder. The wearer always seems smug af for some reason.
I personally think they feel just like tights, so not comfy at all. I never get why women say, oh i need comfy clothes so I wear leggings. Baggy trackies all the way. Baggy tops and baggy trackies. I dress like a 12 yo boy most of the time. Not because I'm embarassed about my size or anything, it's just nice to have room!

Men wear leggings for sport sure but I just don't see them feeling okay about going to buy coffee or post a letter with their ass crack wafting around.

Can't decide whether they are missing out or not

Do all leggings do this?!

I haven't bought any but might do. Because I find tights itchy on my skin, I wondered if leggings might feel like that too. I'd like to get some to wear with longer tops that cover my arse - I generally prefer a long top.

I don't why you think leggings are anti feminist.

lifebeginsaftercoffee · 01/03/2024 06:43

Most men don't wear dresses either but they're still super comfy.

As an aside, my dad is 70 this year and wears leggings for sports and around the house (the running type ones) and he'd happily go to the shops in them too with a super-sized t-shirt or hoody on over the top.

SouthEastCoast · 01/03/2024 06:44

I don’t rate leggings at all and am always baffled by how many women do wear them all the time.

Goforitagain · 01/03/2024 06:48

I don't find them comfortable at all, too clingy down the legs, I prefer the straight leg joggers from M&S which are legging like but looser down the legs

Hoglet70 · 01/03/2024 06:50

I love leggings but only wear them indoors as in my 50s and a bit overweight, I don't think they are the most flattering garments in my wardrobe.

Men look silly in skinny jeans (especially any men over about 25) and the thought of them in leggings.... the mind boggles!!

DyslexicPoster · 01/03/2024 06:51

Purplestorm83 · 01/03/2024 00:15

I wear leggings all the time, but not instead of trousers - I wear them under dresses, instead of tights

Me too, or long jumpers and tops that cover my arse. It's hardly for attention of any kind. It's comfy, smart and practical for my lifestyle. I used to wear it in my corporate office job too

NothingVenturedAndAllThat · 01/03/2024 06:52

Some do in a fitness context. My bloke does. Loves a bit of Spandex 🤣

Girasoli · 01/03/2024 06:53

I love leggings, - leggings and a Jersey dress or jumper dress is my comfiest outfit, and smart enough for work with boots.

DS1 wears leggings regularly (under a football kit because it's too cold to go around in just a football kit at the moment).

I find jogging bottoms a bit too warm usually but have plenty of yoga type trousers I wear when I work from home.

gould · 01/03/2024 06:59

They are the only thing I can get my big arse in to

MassageForLife · 01/03/2024 07:00

I need to know more about why leggings are 'anti-feminist'.

In what way? What makes an item of clothing pro- or anti- feminist?

In order to be a feminist do we need to base our outfits on what men wear? And if so, can it be based on what the men that go on Ru Paul's Drag Race wear?

I just googled feminist clothing and all that came up was slogan t-shirts and sweatshirts. That's not really my thing. TBF I googled anti-feminist clothing and the results were basically the same, but with different slogans.

When did life get so complicated...

LadyChilli · 01/03/2024 07:02

Tjey are incredibly comfortable. I especially love sporty gym style ones, designed for ease of movement. Pyjamas are the only clothing that beat leggings for comfort, and I wouldn't go out in those.

I stick on an oversized sweater and trainers and off I go. My boyfriend goes on and on about how much he loves them so this is a total win.

JellySaurus · 01/03/2024 07:07

Pockets.

Dweetfidilove · 01/03/2024 07:11

@Aquamarine1029 😂😂😂.

Please keep them away from men. They look ridiculous enough in skinny jeans 😔.

Mystro202 · 01/03/2024 07:16

Twig & berries 🤣🤣 I must remember that one 😂😂

Scorchio84 · 01/03/2024 07:19

Aquamarine1029 · 29/02/2024 22:55

Not much room for the twig and berries, I reckon.

😆😆

Male athletes look fine in them but generally it's a no from me where men in leggings are concerned

SgtJuneAckland · 01/03/2024 07:22

I think leggings are feminist clothing, they are comfortable, worn with trainers or flats predominantly, they are available at all price points, they are practical - they are not going to blow up in wind or restrict your movement

I’m guessing OP’s ‘anti-feminist’ thing is the assumption that they are worn with a short top/jacket and therefore showing the exact shape of one’s arse to the world? As opposed to jogging bottoms which don’t do this (thankfully round this way the fashion for men to wear those with their arse hanging out passed on at least a decade ago).
Personally I only wear leggings under long jumpers that are just too short to wear as a proper ‘jumper dress’ with woolly tights. A pair of DMs and I’m good to go like it’s the 90s.

Bluescissorsbluepen · 01/03/2024 07:23

Men’s clothes start off much comfier and well suited if you want to take it seriously. Men’s jeans are (generally) a looser fit, have bigger pockets and men’s shoes/trainers are flat. Easier to run errands or whatever. Everyone I know who lives in leggings says basically for that reason, you can pull them on, they always fit, match with various thing and dash about in comfort.

midgetastic · 01/03/2024 07:30

Leggings can be comfy but they can also be prone to falling down if you have slim hips. I don't like how they look and many men may feel Uncomfortable because they aren't brought up to wear figure hugging / revealing stuff

Shekissedagirlandshelikedit · 01/03/2024 07:31

I adore my leggings. I first discovered them in M&S circa 1990. Before that it was ski pants.

I have soft ones for at home. I have thick cotton for general going out. On very cold days or if I need to look smarter I have some ultra thick ones that are almost like pulling on a wetsuit but once on are really warm and comfy and suck everything in nicely. I generally only wear them when the weather is colder as once it's warm I need something loose.

I like my jeans but for me the weather needs go be warmer to wear them so very rarely wear them in winter. I like joggers but always seem to be in a quest to find some that aren't fleecy inside as they're too warm. When it's very hot I like linen or cotton trousers. I couldn't wear leggings in summer.

LifeofBrienne · 01/03/2024 07:50

@Bluescissorsbluepen There’s still some truth in that but nowadays hardly any women wear heels in the daytime and there are a few situations where women definitely win on comfort, e.g. able to wear cool summer dresses on hot days. Personally I’d add jumper dresses, leggings/woolly tights and flat boots to that as being mega comfortable while also presentable if not super smart.

fuckityfuckityfuckfuck · 01/03/2024 00:04

There's legging and there's leggings. My primark cheap type leggings are for slobbing around. My next price rung up from sports direct leggings are for the gym (I am in noooo way a gym bunny and they are purely for ease of movement). Then my branded top tier work leggings (relevant to my job) are super comfy, warm and make my arse look like it's still 20!

Which ones??? WHICH LEGGINGS provide the 20 year old looking arse?

Malarandras · 01/03/2024 08:04

I wear leggings, mostly to the gym as that’s what is most practical to wear. I get too hot to wear a tracksuit. I can’t say I have ever considered how feminist or otherwise that is, it’s just what I need to do..
