Are leggings really comfy?

If they were genuinely comfy then why wouldn't men wear them?

I wear rainbow and sprinkles leggings every single day. Very very rarely wear jeans.

mitogoshi · 01/03/2024 08:27

They are comfy but those ones women wear which leave too little to the imagination, bottom enhancing let's say are a bit ick to me. Not keen on the look of running ones on men to be honest. I only wear them with tunics or dresses myself

Previousreligion · 01/03/2024 08:31

I don't find them especially comfortable, I find the tightness against my legs unpleasant and sometimes the seams rub my thighs. Much prefer jeans.

I also think they often look very unflattering, especially if they are flesh coloured or brown, or slightly see-through and worn with a short top.

I do wear them occasionally with knee-high boots and a long top but rarely.

kerede · 01/03/2024 09:08

I never wear them except for exercise or under jeans when it's cold. I find the tightness uncomfortable and would rather wear track suit bottoms for lounging at home. I don't like wearing tights either. I find them too cold for wearing on their own most of the year as well.

whatahat · 01/03/2024 09:26

@fuckityfuckityfuckfuck I am desperate to know about the magic leggings!

FrozenGhost · 01/03/2024 09:49

I think leggings are the one exception to the "men's clothes are generally comfier" rule. Men would be more physically comfortable wearing leggings but they just wouldn't feel mentally comfortable doing so. Men do wear leggings for sport, but unless elite athletes usually wear shorts over the top.

Finlesswonder · 29/02/2024 22:57

Well I wear leggings but now I'm starting to wonder if it's "anti feminist", to be honest I find tracksuit bottoms comfier

@Finlesswonder

anti feminist 😂😂😂😂😅😅😅

Don't be so ridiculous.

My friend wears his thermal cycling leggings at home. He's very toned looks amazing & comfortable in them. He's very man bun type sexy.

Most other men I know would look ridiculous in them, but likewise I don't look fabulous in them, but 'whatever'. I wear really long tops so no one is forced to see the outline of my belly, bum & bits. So I don't care really. Nothing is going to make me look svelte 🙅🏻‍♀️

Only my baggy, soft, PJ bottoms are more comfortable, but they don't leave the house!!

usernother · 01/03/2024 10:02

Anti feminist Grin. I wear a longer top over mine so no one can see my 'arse crack' but it wouldn't bother me if they could.

mondaytosunday · 01/03/2024 10:02

Yes but I don't wear them like I do trousers. The top has to be long enough to cover my hips. Men don't tend to wear skin tight clothing (skinny jeans look awful on most).

Massivescreen · 01/03/2024 10:04

I’ve always worn cheap leggings (primark, Tesco, Sainsbury’s etc) under tunic dresses and things, but recently I’ve discovered thicker ones with pockets and ribbed leggings and I now wear them all the time instead of jeans. So comfy.

MrsSkylerWhite · 01/03/2024 10:06

Yes, comfortable. I’m obviously anti-feminist.

Flowersinthewateringcan · 01/03/2024 10:10

Leggings are a God send for the perimenopausal expanding waistline. I can’t wear jeans now, way to restricting in that area.

Anoisagusaris · 01/03/2024 10:13

Sweaty Betty Power leggings are soooo comfy. I’m fat so I never wear them (or most other trousers) without a top covering my arse and tummy.

Shopper727 · 01/03/2024 10:19

I do love the cotton coveted space hopper comment that’s my backside in leggings I love them but feel a bit self conscious wearing them, I have lots of lovely pairs sweaty Betty lulu lemon ones etc but am a big wimp just need to wear them I think and stop worrying what others think, might be more comfy too

SausageRoll58 · 01/03/2024 10:21

I LOVE leggins! I buy the packs of 3 from Morrisons. Very comfy they are too! I actually know several men who wear them under their trousers and some who just wear them without trousers but extra long jumpers.

DontGiveADuck · 01/03/2024 10:22

I love the fur lined leggings from Primark. Best invention ever.

Chitterlina · 01/03/2024 10:25

I do wear them, but am concerned my neighbours might call me Leggings Lorraine 👀

Denimdenimdenim · 01/03/2024 10:25

Uniqlo heat tech leggings are so cosy

HoppingPavlova · 01/03/2024 10:39

Not much room for the twig and berries, I reckon

I have a few (adult) sons who wear them for exercise and sports, and they are built differently at the front than standard women’s tights, in order to accommodate the ‘twig and berries’. However, while built to accommodate, you can still see the complete outline because they are firm fitting/tight. So, the done thing is to wear a pair of training shorts/exercise shorts over the top. This is really what prohibits men from wearing them casually like women but mine find them comfy and are never in a rush to get out of them when they get home (which isn’t great as they invariably stink post prolonged exercise and I’d prefer they hit the shower rather than mooch around in front of the tv in their tights).

Theworldismadness · 01/03/2024 10:52

Boxers are probably more comfy than knickers but the vast majority of women don't wear them. Probably for the same reasons as most men don't wear leggings. Society norms.

HoppingPavlova · 01/03/2024 11:36

I would think more fashion than society norms, as fashion dictates society norms. We have had periods of men wearing tights as standard (and indeed codpieces in some circles), while women would have never been seen in tights. As fashion changes over time it dictates society norms. So, this may well come around again for men at some point in the future.

BouleDeSuif · 01/03/2024 11:41

Yes. Very much so. Also I'm very much a feminist. I will never give up my leggings.

Laiste · 01/03/2024 11:52

Dh wouldn't wear leggings because he hates anything a bit clingy round his bollocks. If he wears his 'good' jeans in the car he's forever hoiking them down at the crutch.

He tells me it's an age thing as he had no problem in his 20s and early 30s.

He likes flappy boxers as well.

Me - i love leggings while i'm cleaning the house and gardening.

UnaOfStormhold · 01/03/2024 11:52

Not a fan of joggers - too much bunchy fabric. And while I like leggings they make my legs look like a pair of parsnips (see also skinny jeans). I do love a nice pair of yoga trousers though - super comfy, a good fit for both waist and hips, and easy to move in when I want to fit in a bit of movement into my day.

Laiste · 01/03/2024 11:54

@UnaOfStormhold - yes. My 'going out' leggings are yoga trousers. Tight and stretchy but flared from the knee. Feel the same but look a bit more like i've made an effort 😂
