Are leggings really comfy?

If they were genuinely comfy then why wouldn't men wear them?

@fuckityfuckityfuckfuck
I need to know the name of these wondrous leggings!

Not a fan of joggers - too much bunchy fabric. And while I like leggings they make my legs look like a pair of parsnips (see also skinny jeans). I do love a nice pair of yoga trousers though - super comfy, a good fit for both waist and hips, and easy to move in when I want to fit in a bit of movement into my day.

Do you have any links to yoga trousers that you like?

vanillaclouds · 01/03/2024 12:19

I wore them all through pregnancy and a little bit beyond but I don't own any now.

Men wear leggings for sport sure but I just don't see them feeling okay about going to buy coffee or post a letter with their ass crack wafting around.

Can't decide whether they are missing out or not

If you worked opposite the building site I have the misfortune to look out on each day, I think you might revise that opinion. At least in leggings there is some lycra between the offending crevice and my line of sight.

shearwater2 · 01/03/2024 12:21

They do - have you never seen a man running or cycling?

As for wearing them every day, I don't personally and only wear them for running or in the gym. But if someone does, so what?

Men are not the default sex and neither are their fashion choices.

Christ, yes I wish they would wear leggings. High waist ones! At least it would cover their arses up.

And there was a 40+ year old man in Sainsbury's last night with his jeans falling down his arse. Horrible.

Wearing no leggings for comfort doesn't mean waving your ass crack around. Wear a long thing over them like a normal person.

This is spot on!

They must be comfortable, but I think they mostly look dreadful. Maybe I’m just mildly bemused by jeans, which used to be what you slobbed around in, having suddenly turned into quasi-formal, uncomfortable, restrictive garments.

Jeans were never especially comfortable, especially in the 80s when you needed to lie down and have a mate to push your pelvis together while you used a coat hanger in the zipper to haul them shut. Corsets had nothing on them...

Rectanglelights · 01/03/2024 12:29

XH wears them for his hobby. Looks a right plonker with all his mates all wearing it together. 'Twig and berries' are sometimes covered by teeny tiny shorts, sometimes not. I can't help womdering if they'd get cold with all the exposure or awfully sweaty. Happily his are no longer my concern. 🤣

shearwater2 · 01/03/2024 12:32

Leggings don't make your legs look any shape other than the actual shape of your legs. My legs are muscly and leg-shaped so I think they look pretty good in leggings. No chance of my arse hanging out as they fit on my waist and stay where they are. I don't wear long tops with them unless I'm doing yoga.

Giggorata · 01/03/2024 12:34

I find them the best thing to wear around the house, very comfortable, with total freedom of movement. (I tend to sit with my legs tucked up, or cross legged)
I don't expose my ancient wobbly bum though. They are always worn with long jumpers or tops or dresses. Sometimes I wear them out, under a dress with boots.
I have some wonderful bad taste snazzy ones, as well as black.
Far from being anti feminist, I think they are a very woman friendly choice.

I don't really think about what men wear, to be honest, except if they look nice or awful. Some of the slim young things might look cute. The middle aged larger ones, less so.

shearwater2 · 01/03/2024 12:34

My jeans are extremely comfortable. Most have a bit of stretch in now and are softer denim.

newusern99 · 01/03/2024 12:36

The black track pants all the kids wear are basically leggings though. Just cut a little looser and different fabric.

sansol · 01/03/2024 13:01

Do people wear leggings with or without underwear?

I only wear leggings for sport too. Surely it's a choice? Jeans, trousers, skirts, dresses, whatever you choose.
Love that leggings could be anti-feminist 🤣

BigWillyLittleTodger · 01/03/2024 13:26

I don’t find leggings comfortable at all, I wear roll top yoga pants, the most comfortable article of clothing ever invented.

TubeScreamer · 01/03/2024 13:42

I hate wearing them. So uncomfortable. The only time I’ve done so was when I had a broken arm and struggled to get dressed.

YoongiMarryMe · 01/03/2024 14:10

I live in leggings! I’m disabled and spend a lot of time horizontal and leggings are the best.

My only issue with them is that I’m very short and can never find any that are the right length. The ones I’m wearing right now are tucked under my bra Grin

KreedKafer · 01/03/2024 14:27

It's not about comfort, it's just about convention. Men don't wear, eg, a loose jersey smock dress either, but that doesn't mean they aren't comfortable items of clothing.

I think people are comfortable in different things. I find leggings pretty comfy, provided they're soft, thick ones and the right size. But some people don't like anything that clings in any way.

Similarly, some people adore their Oodies and say they're the cosiest and comfiest thing they've ever worn, but I find them really uncomfortable - they make me feel weighed down and claustrophobic!

fuckityfuckityfuckfuck · 01/03/2024 15:03

The magic leggings are from Akuma, but it's a club shop (for professional sports teams) and you need a code to access your clubs kits in the online shop. Have a look online but I don't think there's any way to buy without a club affiliation.

But they are wonderful!

bradpittsbathwater · 01/03/2024 15:11

I don't think they look that flattering if you have a big arse and wide legs. Which I do. I wouldn't wear them day to day. I find dresses and tights comfortable and I look much better in them.

Janehasamane · 01/03/2024 15:16

Just here for the leggings being anti feminist explanation…😁

bingoitsadingo · 01/03/2024 15:25

Men don’t always optimise for comfort. My partner doesn’t like wearing stretchy fabrics because they don’t last as well. So he tries not to buy jeans and chinos with any elastic in even though they’re comfier. He’d rather have more utilitarian clothes and not have to go shopping as often.

also, women change size/shape more than men (e.g. bloating during period) so stretchy fabrics that allow for that whilst still fitting well are more important to women than men.

and tight fitting vs loose clothes for comfort is personal preference. If I’m sitting around I would rather wear leggings than baggy trousers because I find loose fabric bunches up and is annoying. Or the trousers ride up and my ankles get cold. But some people prefer looser stuff

finally - I think a lot of men have no idea how comfy leggings are because they just have never tried them!

BeachBeerBbq · 01/03/2024 15:30

There are clothing social pressures on both sexes. Can you imagine the heat guy would get walking around in leggings and t-shirt nowadays? Yet super skinny jeans sometimes show as much leggings would🤷
