Neighbours balls

We don't speak to our neighbours due to a number of incidents. The kids are also very rude. Anyways the past few weeks they have been kicking balls over the wall into our garden. They havn't called to the door to ask for them back either as we do not speak at all.
Aibu not to return the balls until they come to the door & politely ask for them back?

Seems the perfect way to escalate ‘not speak at all’ into neighbours wars to me tbh.

Cantara · 29/02/2024 18:51

YANBU, but I was expecting a different type of story from the thread title. 😅

mrsbyers · 29/02/2024 18:52

I’d just chuck them over if it was a couple of times

In what way? Surely if they want their balls back the polite thing to do is knock in & ask for it. And stop kicking them over in the first place.

Same

Mummy2mybear · 29/02/2024 18:54

I would just throw them over.

Fantan · 29/02/2024 18:54

Grow up !!! Just let the kids have their balls back

Mrspatmoresspoon · 29/02/2024 18:55

Chop em off!!

Picture24 · 29/02/2024 18:55

God just throw the balls back over

Kenthighst · 29/02/2024 18:56

And they'll get kicked over again, continuing the cycle?

OP posts:
mynewname25 · 29/02/2024 18:57

Why don't you speak ?

ComeOnThenFanny · 29/02/2024 18:58

Isn't it just easier to throw them back over for the sake of harmony?

ComeOnThenFanny · 29/02/2024 19:00

Kenthighst · 29/02/2024 18:56

Well, it's not really a "cycle"... It's just kids kicking balls over 🤷🏻‍♀️

Mummy2mybear · 29/02/2024 19:01

What are the incidents you speak of?

Moier · 29/02/2024 19:02

They are kids!!! Get a grip.
Throw them back.. or wait until they come and collect them.. no opening door and demanding an apology.. gosh you weren't a child once were you? Or grew up a kid in the 60s/70s.. sounds like you're waiting for the kids to knock and " politely " ask for them back..
Grow up stop being mean.

Kenthighst · 29/02/2024 18:56

Yeah, coz they're kids. They're probably not doing it on purpose.

Now I'm not suggesting that you inconvenience yourself majorly to return them, but maybe once a week you could round them up and throw them back.

grateful for my lovely neighbours who put up with balls over the wall since we moved in

They're probably not doing it on purpose as presumably they like playing with the balls and don't want to lose them. Just Chuck them over when you're next in the garden.

This is very petty.

Unless there is a huge amount you are not saying, you sound like you're being difficult for no benefit.

DrJoanAllenby · 29/02/2024 19:05

Throw them back over.

Presumably you're at war with the parents not the children?

sprigatito · 29/02/2024 19:07

Why on earth would you not just throw the balls back? This is a completely normal and neighbourly thing to do. It sounds like you relish the poor relationship tbh, I'd love to hear your neighbours' side of the story.

JamMonster · 29/02/2024 19:07

Our previous, very lovely neighbours used to accidentally kick a football over every week at least. They didn’t come to ask for them because they didn’t want to disturb. I just threw them back when I was next in the garden and they’d shout thank you if they happened to be outside at the time. It worked much better for me than people knocking on my door all the time about a lost ball!

Keroppi · 29/02/2024 19:07

you'd be even more pissed off if they were knocking on every 5 mins asking for the ball back

just chuck them over only once a week or something

Kenthighst · 29/02/2024 18:56

So what!!

You're lucky, when I was a kid I used to just climb over and get my balls back 🤣

You’re not alone there 😲🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

VWT5 · 29/02/2024 19:10

I had success throwing them back - but weekly, rather than daily. (Mainly because it was a hidden part of my garden where I couldn’t see what came over)
They were happy to get them back, but it wasn’t instant gratification - i.e. there was a learning element for them.
