Am I being unreasonable to start to question Liz Truss' sanity?

OK I've put this in Aibu but it's a serious question, she honestly comes across as if she doesn't have a foot in reality and, as a former PM and current politician, it's a serious & genuine question.

She believes an extremist Islamic party is at risk of winning a local election, she believes Trump-oh-please-Mr-Putin-feel-free-to-bomb-Nato-states is the single best thing for the safety of the West and whenever she's asked a question which she can't or doesn't want to answer she just acts like nothing has been said and does this weird smile into nothingness.

There's calculated political moves to extend your career and then there's the strange machinations and declarations which we see from her, it's just.....so bizarre.

I'm just beginning to wonder if she's living in some sort of fantasy-world.

If someone can shed some rational light onto her actions then please do because I'm at a loss!

I was literally about to say the same. She has teenage daughters,sometimes just existing is enough to embarrass teens but this must be awful. I wonder if she has any sort of official advisor...? (or whether she's just not listening! )

I'm not sure. She may not be listening to others around her, so they may not be able to reign her in.

I agree. How she has the guts to even be out in public is beyond me.
If I ever see her I will tell her exactly what I think about our mortgage going up £700 a month.

Truss & most of the Tory party believe that, whatever they say or do between now & the next election, they are going to lose, and lose very badly. They don’t say this publicly, obv, but anyone who follows politics knows it’s the reality.

When they do lose, Tory MPs assume that Sunak will resign as leader immediately so there will be a leadership election and a massive battle within the party not just for the leadership, but for its future direction & policies. That battle has already started among the right-wing populist wing of the party, with people who are not currently in government like Truss, Braverman, Jenrick etc etc and their supporters setting out their stalls. Truss believes that the Tory party should move towards free market economic policies, free trade, public spending cuts & tax cuts to kick start economic growth.

That’s another thing she was responsible for!

If Truss thinks she has a chance of making a comeback after Rishi loses the election, she is utterly delusional.

Surely even the stupidest Tory members would recognise that she would be a dreadful electoral liability.

Well she does have tight security. I agree, that she should just shut up.

Posted this elsewhere, but these were the words of another one of the speakers at the event Truss was at:

”Welcome to the end of democracy. We are here to overthrow it completely. We didn’t get all the way there on January 6, but we will endeavor to get rid of it and replace it with this, right here. All glory is not to government. All glory to God.”

She is siding with those who want to end democracy in America and replace it with a Putin-sympathizing religious theocracy, that will continue its attacks on abortion rights and any other rights that are not within their extremist interpretation of Christianity.

She is evil. An enemy to the UK and to women everywhere.

Her sudden alignment with the American anti-democracy extremists seems like a shameless and calculated career move.

You may be right. I'm not a psychiatrist. But I do genuinely believe that she is unwell.

I have zero sympathy for Liz Truss.

Her recent speech at the CPAC was excruciating to watch. She kept deliberately pausing for applause, but there was just a confused silence and then a trickle of clapping when people realised this was what she was waiting for.

She is one of those trying to instigate 'PopCon' (some populist Conservative nightmare, as if we haven't had enough). If that fails, she could join Reform U.K? Anyone who would have her, probably. But the woman is liability whatever she does and she appears to be spiralling.

I think she is arrogant and incredibly vain and cannot accept that what happened to her was due to her own incompetence and hubris, so she has to find someone or something out there to pin the blame onto. Hence the ‘dark forces drove me out’ delusion. Trump is cut from similar cloth.

For her to share an extremist platform with the likes of Bannon shows just how far she has reached to find a scapegoat for her ineptitude. That, coupled with the fact that she isn’t very bright has produced the gurning fruitloop that we see today.

I think that's exactly right.

But I think the delusion is real. She has lost touch with reality, perhaps because the reality is not very bearable.

I think Trump is mentally ill as well.

I actually find her creepy, aside from the fact that she fucked up the country (even more), she is like a dead body controlled by AI. How can anyone vote for her?

Completely agree. It’s terrifying to think what a lucky escape we had with Truss. The thought of that maniac Trump getting a second term makes me feel physically sick.

She is certainly odd but it's amazing how well the media/labour narrative has landed about her being responsible for evryone's mortgage. Unless you were unlucky enough to fix in the couple of months immediately after the 'mini-budget' she's had no bearing on rates at all.
