Woke up to deflated tires because I drive an SUV.

Jealous, petty wankers.

Anyone got got this morning?

Maybe SUV owners shouldn't upset and inconvenience innocent people with their ridiculous unnecessary vehicles? Deflating tyres is hardly vandalism.

Ridiculous and unnecessary? In your opinion.

Completely necessary for me (and others on this thread).

Do any of you slating SUVs on here go on holiday or anywhere by flying? If so, pot, kettle etc.

Biker47 · 29/02/2024 13:20

I fucking love my 2.5 ton SUV, so practical and so roomy inside.

DevaleraSpawnOfSatan · 29/02/2024 13:20

There was a spate of this in Dublin last year, the eco warriors were so woke, they unscrewed the dust cap and placed a lentil in on top of the valve, so the tyres slowly deflated.

They were roundly derided on all SM platforms and all of a sudden it stopped. Funny that.

crackofdoom · 29/02/2024 13:22

Thanks for outlining exactly how to let someone's tyres down deValera, I'll bear that in mind 😊

This has been going on in London for several years. It hasn't stopped anywhere.

Well if that is all you have to worry you then I envy you.

BeLemonFish · 29/02/2024 13:24

I’m assuming that the OP will be getting rid of her terrible SUV now based on the orders of these smug arseholes 🙄

Prelapsarianhag · 29/02/2024 13:25

If you stop driving these monstrous antisocial cars you will stop being targeted.

I once saw a programme where they got 9 small children to stand behind an SUV before the driver could see anyone was there.

ShesGotAHeartOfGold · 29/02/2024 13:26

crackofdoom · 29/02/2024 13:17

ShesGotaHeartofGold

Read the note the OP attached.

SUVs are, in fact, a major contributory factor to "the planet burning".

Well no, the note is a pile of shite though. And a waste of paper.

‘Jealous, petty wankers.’

no-one’s jealous. You’re missing the point.

No normal, balanced person with high self-esteem and self-worth would be roaming around at 4am deflating people tyres.

There's something wrong with them.

I definitely think higher parking charges for wankpanzers in cities are the way to go. Paris has just introduced this, and I wouldn't be surprised if other cities follow suit.

But ultimately, I think legislation has got to target the car manufacturers- it's them that have thrown millions into aggressive marketing campaigns to convince the gullible that these obscene tanks are attractive, safe and desirable. And they've done it simply because their profit margins on big cars are much greater than on small ones.

What’s a ‘wankpanzer’?

tireextinguishers · 29/02/2024 13:29

Producing a new electric car makes more than 3 tons extra CO2 compared to producing a petrol or diesel car.So at 165g/km for the petrol car being driven, you could drive 20,000 km in it and still not have caused have as much carbon release as just building the electric car, without it even being driven it at all.

My god. How hilarious

OP posts:
HappiestSleeping · 29/02/2024 13:30

It's ridiculous since such a low percentage of emissions comes from personal vehicles. The oft quoted statistic is that 48% of carbon emissions come from cars and vans, when actually it is 48% of the transportation CO2, which itself is 16% of global CO2, thus cars and vans is 48% of the 16%.

Industry, agriculture and energy used in buildings is way more. They should concentrate on that rather than @tireextinguishers 's car.

Anyone else just here because they misread the thread title and wondered why OP was so angry about fire extinguishers?

tireextinguishers · 29/02/2024 11:51

SUVs are unfairly demonised in my opinion.

I don't know why people have such an issue with them.

They can do so much more damage to other cars and more importantly to pedestrians.
I will never forget witnessing a woman in a massive SUV reversing over an elderly couple in a car park. She didn't see them and didn't hear people shouting warnings at her. They were both seriously injured and I would be surprised if the woman survived. A small child is even more vulnerable against these huge cars.

Yup, I thought that too.

crackofdoom · 29/02/2024 13:37

I see the "But I live rurally, I NEED my SUV!" posse have turned up. Well firstly, this thread isn't about you, it's about urban SUV owners.

Secondly, I do live rurally, and big SUVs are an absolute pest around here. Thing is, rural lanes are very narrow. And SUVs are very wide. And, for some reason, SUV drivers don't seem very adept at reversing their monsters down single track roads into passing places. I've seen tractors manoeuvre better.

One of the local repeat offenders was splashed all over the village Facebook page yesterday- stopped dead in the middle of the lane, refusing to move forward even though there was a good foot between him and the oncoming Tesco van, massive line of cars waiting behind him while he ranted and raved and refused to move. The village had a great deal to say about that 😆

Funnily enough, all the people I know who live up terrifying, deplorable farm tracks with potholes the size of elephants drive old estate cars held together with gaffer tape- or at the most, a 25 year old Hilux or Isuzu pick up. The massive shiny Range Rovers tend to belong to the bungalow with a gravel drive posse.

Bollocks. My sensors lose their mind at a tiny curb let alone an actual person

Vinvertebrate · 29/02/2024 13:38

Well I bloody love mine (Volvo XC90) and I don’t condone petty vandalism of anyone’s property, so I’m with the OP.

I’ve only got one child, so I still have some bragging rights in the eco warrior stakes… 🙄

Orab · 29/02/2024 13:44

CagneyAndLazy · 29/02/2024 12:44

That's just not true. They often stab them or drill holes in them.

Worse than that! The slash them with their benefit funded knives and needles and give all the neighbours AIDS. There have been reports!

crackofdoom · 29/02/2024 13:54

Orab 😆

ClaudiaWankleman · 29/02/2024 13:56

Ponoka7 · 29/02/2024 13:16

@ClaudiaWankleman what if a small hatchback won't suit your needs?

I can remember a woman folding her arms watching us, as my son in law parked his Kuga in a p&c parking place. I jumped out and got their pram out, then my Mum got out by herself, this she couldn't do in a lower car. Then I got her wheelchair out. We all looked at her as if to say, does that justify us enough for you.

What do you want my reply to be? I'm not someone who goes around deflating tyres. You're clearly convinced of your need for an SUV and if you live happily with that, that's your prerogative. I recognise that, on a societal level, SUVs do a lot of damage, even beyond their environmental impact.

My local gamekeeper drives a battered old Peugeot 505. Somehow he manages!

The thing is though, you should be driving with your eyes. Relying on sensors is dangerous behaviour in itself.

IncompleteSenten · 29/02/2024 14:00

I think getting a van out to sort your tyres is a good response to such stupid protesting.

Imagine the headlines.
X number of vans, x extra pollution as big car drivers call vans to come sort their tyres out.

If it was me I'd argue I needed to have someone drive out to inspect my tires because I had no way of knowing if the protesters had secretly damaged my tires and risked me having an accident .
